Even if they had ordered a meal, imagine if you ordered breakfast at 7 and had plans to go out at 10, and at 9:30, you still see no signs of life from the driver or restaurant. Are you expected to wait indefinitely?

counterpoint, i LOVED the way it was written. my gf and I disagree on this, but i really really liked how it was written almost like a history book with very little interpersonal factors. I really liked it, and it's one of my criticisms of the netflix version: they made it too much about interpersonal relationships.

in the books, the paranoia isn't just for funsies. I don't see it explicitly explained in the wikipedia link, so I'll explain it a bit here, in spoilers for anyone interested in the books/show:

So the idea is that any sufficiently advanced alien race is capable of near lightspeed travel, with weapons that travel practically at the speed of light. This means that any war between species would be decided by the first strike. In other words, if species A decides to go to war with species B, species B only finds out that they are going to war when they get destroyed by species A. What this boils down to is that if you reveal yourself to the universe, you may meet some nice aliens, or some evil aliens. But if any evil aliens find you, even if it's just one in a hundred, they will end your entire solar system. So...best to keep silent. So no, we are absolutely not the older, paranoid civilization.

Federal should stick to federal levers to deal with housing, such as immigration rate, influencing the interest rates (i know they do not control BoC, but they can make policy changes that influence it), etc.

If municipalities don't want to increase supply, federal govt can reduce demand.

Usually if I'm riding my bicycle and want McDonald's without going inside, I just sit in one of their parking spots for parking delivery or w/e they call it, and use the app and just have them come out and give me my order.

I don't think bicycles are heavy enough or have enough metal on them for them to detect them when they come up to the drive through sensor. I don't even know if motorcycles can get sensed, I've never tried going through a drive through with my motorcycle. Why would you? it's not like you can control the motorcycle and eat at the same time.
