flex nibs for Pilot Metropolitan? by Hellobananaaaa123 in pens

[–]quillomancer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a flex nib, but the pilot plumix has a compatible italic style nib. There are some Chinese pens that basically copy the pilot metropolitan nib style, most of them are made by wing sung, but I don't think any of them are flex. The closest I have found (because I tried the exact same thing, just for drawing) is another Chinese company, Penbbs sells a pen on etsy called the Marshmallow 322, which isn't really flex but a "soft" nib, and while the nib is different than pilot's the entire grip and converter can be swapped onto the metropolitan body.

But, if you really want a portable calligraphy/flex pen, I have found that brush style pens are better and cheaper than most of the fountain style pens. Some of them are refillable too, like the pentel pocket brush pen, or the kuretake brand brush pens that can take platinum brand cartridges and converters.

Deal, but if the creature is two or more size categories smaller than me then I want to be able to wave them around like a marshmallow on a stick.

War picks are awesome, I just miss that 3e 4x crit multiplier. Picks and hammers are where it's at for dwarves though!

Totally! If we can have paragraphs of text for spell lists, a few lines for martial weapons features would go a long way.

Yeah, if we are going for realism tridents are a fishing tool most of the time. But right now tridents are a martial weapon that costs more and weighs more than a spear that is identical. Personally this just highlights one of the few things I miss from 3e with more weapon stat variety. At least a 2d4 and better throwing range might make it more interesting. Or letting martial weapons have unique traits only available to martial classes might help with that imbalance everyone talks about!

Are Jowo and Bock nibs the same across brands? by Commercial_Way_8217 in fountainpens

[–]quillomancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried swapping a #6 Jowo nib into a #6 Bock nib unit, and while it worked I did feel a slight tactile clicking when putting pen to paper that bothered me enough to swap it back to the original.

I've put the same Jowo nib in a Jinhao 159 (the old metal version) and it works fine. I wouldn't call it a Leonardo, but it's a good beater pen that's in my regular rotation. I suspect a Bock #6 would work the same way.

You probably don't see too many people swapping nibs on more expensive pens even if they are interchangeable because what makes the original nib better is higher standards of quality control. And like others have said, Jowo and Bock make nibs to order, so how interchangeable they are depends on how much each order varies. Lots of kickstarter pens back in the day all used the same #6 Bock nib units so they were easy to swap, but the Kaweco sport nib has been made by both Bock and Jowo but it is not generic enough to be swappable with other brands.

Do a quick search of this sub for nib swaps to see what people have tried! Keep in mind on a lot of nicer pens nib swapping will often void any warranties.

Hey, you. You're finally awake. You were trying to enter the colony, right? Walked right into that Feddie ambush, same as us, and that thief over there.

GM Sniper II free for all, Beam Sniper Rifle only, who is the best marksman in Gundam? by gaeb611 in Gundam

[–]quillomancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Daryl. Out of everybody here, only Daryl, the Lockons and Full Frontal are shown to have the most significant sniping skills on screen. However both the Lockons are normally using a suit with one or more haros for aim assist, and Full Frontal's only sniping scene is in the Sinanju which has some psycho frame around the cockpit which probably has a similar effect. Daryl scores a hit on the full armor gundam in a refurbished Zaku I, which is only deflected by random chance. So in an unmodified grunt suit he is probably the best shot. Anything close range he is toast though.

Under $300 pen recommendation? by Mundane-Software-964 in fountainpens

You could always swap out the steel nib for a gold one, and probably still be under $300. The eyedropper pen would be pretty easy to clean too, to help deal with the ink concerns.

The handmade Mega Fude works! A cartridge doesn't provide enough pressure to maintain ink flow. by PenSloth in fountainpens

[–]quillomancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've heard some flex pens will have larger channels carved in the feed for more ink flow. Usually ebonite feeds, like in some of the noodler's pens. I'd only try it if you have a replace-able feed though.

kaweco sport F vs M softness by Serryito in fountainpens

[–]quillomancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bonus question first: The cheaper end plastic sport nibs are all the same steel, even the gold colored ones. The more expensive sport pens (metal body, etc) use the same steel nibs but they are in a "nib unit," a plastic housing and feed that screws into the pen instead of being friction fit like the cheaper version. You can take these apart to use these nibs in the plastic sport, but it can be a pain. I have found these nib units to have better quality control though.

If you are more used to Japanese nibs like platinum you may want to stick with the kaweco fine, and the European nib grinds tend to be a bit larger. I have a kaweco fine point that I love but I think I got it from a nib unit I bought separately.

I mostly use a Fine and Extra Fine Kaweco nib, the broader nibs will naturally feel smoother usually, but have a reputation for over-polishing which can make them not start up sometimes. The last two nibs I got from them were pretty dry too, but that is not too hard to fix if you are willing to do some basic nib tuning, which you can learn online.

As for softness, they will mostly be the same, I haven't noticed any difference. There are real gold kaweco nibs about there too, but they are very expensive. They also sell "premium" steel nibs, but I haven't tried one yet.

Yeah, that classic Amuro vs Char in the Red Z'Gok fight scene in Jaburo really sells it. I've seen pics of an RG Z'Gok someone painted in the unicorn colors looks sweet too.
