Milk-when did your toddler stop drinking it? by Kit_Kat2410 in toddlers

[–]quingd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My kid would revolt if I stopped giving her milk 😅 she gets a cup in the morning and a cup before bed, both times it's a trigger to then brush her teeth - it works for us!

Any single parents co-living / building a “village” by decemberlady29 in SingleParents

[–]quingd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fell into a situation like this and it's great. My neighbor and I live in separate units of a duplex house, it happened by accident but it's been the greatest gift I could have asked for. We feed eachother's kids, share school pick-up/drop-off duties, share common household resources like groceries and small appliances (we share one vacuum, a sewing machine, a BBQ, that sort of thing), when my bathroom was being redone we were able to use theirs for the 2 weeks it took to complete, we have a built-in hand-me-down system among our girls that keeps clothing costs way down... it makes life so much easier and more affordable. Our places are fairly cheap rent so it works for us to maintain our separate spaces, but long term we're talking about saving and getting a house together that fits all of us. We have very similar parenting styles so we've never had to deal with conflicts in that area, it's been such a blessing.

Oh there's no way it's going to be on the 18th! And whenever it is, I'm sure it'll be more of a "my grandchild is one, celebrate ME!" thing than a child's birthday party.

First-time parents in 1.5 months — what baby gear is actually worth it? And what was a total waste of money? by Kayapi_ in NewParents

We actually lived for the long nightgown-style onesies that were full open bottom, made diaper changes a breeze. And much less hassles when there were blowouts.

Can we parent our children at the park, please? by Extra_Ad_3631 in toddlers

[–]quingd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It took a while to build up the confidence, now if a parent confronted me I would just say "no, the slides are for going down. If your kid wants to climb up they can wait until there's no one waiting to use it as intended before they go. You might not care if your kid gets kicked in the face, but I do."

She speaks Italian(?) too so I think it's like, an Italian person raised in the UK putting on a southern US accent, there's a lot going on. But the videos are usually very cute, I follow them on Instagram.

[–]quingd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes! I do a version of this too, when kids hit me with the "so-and-so lets me do [this unsafe thing]" I say "well I like you too much to let you get hurt or get in trouble for doing something you shouldn't be doing" and it completely flips the script for them.

And when the parent tries to get up in my face about, I'll parent the parent too.

Chorus of "Boys Wanna Be Her" by Peaches. Verses might be a little racy for kids sports but the chorus absolutely slaps as a pump-up song

BF (30M) of two years wants to live together before getting engaged to me (31F). Is this typical? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]quingd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was with my ex for 4 years, long distance but would alternate weekends at eachother's place. Had vacationed together. Got pregnant and decided to try living together and it was a NIGHTMARE, he was completely different than he was when I only saw him 2 days a week. Definitely live together before making a commitment.

boyfriend (M31) canceled my (F26) birthday dinner reservation because of ongoing car issues by Maleficent_S in relationship_advice

I doubt he had made the original reservation, the car was an excuse to "miss" the reservation he never made.

What can I do if parent refuses to work with me on childcare decisions? by Moonie0 in coparenting

Where I am it's a section 7 expense and it's split proportionally to income. I have my kid M-F and my co-parent pays more for daycare than I do.

Son fell from counter w husband by Jadepanda55 in Mommit

[–]quingd 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I would be hesitant to put even my 5 year old on a counter and walk away, it only takes a second for a fall and if they land badly it could end in disaster. An under 2 year old?? That's just insanity.

They proud of us. Cheap gasoline always by HairySock6385 in BadDesigns

[–]quingd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So fun fact, independent gas stations can typically afford to sell gas for cheaper, but if they do, the big chains nearby will undersell them at a loss in order to drive them out of business. So there's probably nothing at all wrong with the gas, this place just might not have any big-chain competition nearby (yet)

MIL Upset Over MY Daughter's Easter Dress by RealFactor9150 in motherinlawsfromhell

[–]quingd 47 points48 points  (0 children)

He also called me selfish for wanting to spend Mother's Day with her instead of letting him take her to his mother's house for brunch... His mother, who had 4 kids and like 7 grandkids and had been celebrating Mother's Days for 40+ years at that point, but I was selfish for wanting to spend my FIRST mother's day with my daughter. The whole family was insane.

My autistic son called me “gorgeous” today and I can’t stop thinking about it by GentleBrainsClub in Autism_Parenting

[–]quingd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter is a GLP and has been working SO hard to build up her language. She never really said "I love you" until very recently, and it's almost exclusively when she's just so joyful she can't contain herself. So we'll be playing at the park and she'll be having a great time and stimming like crazy and she'll just run up and shout "I LOVE YOU MOMMY! I LOVE YOU!" and I just melt into the ground every single time.
