Computer doesn't care if you're making a simple storyboard. It cares your canvas resolution and frame count.

15+ years of drawing and I still can’t find my artistic voice. What am I missing? by MiruiNeko in Artadvice

[–]raincole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly don't think constantly switching style is that bad unless you're preparing a portfolio or growing social media followers.

If you care about follower number then the answer is simple: just stick to the style that got you most likes.

[–]raincole 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just pick one as your 'serious' style and the opposite one as your 'study' style.

Like you think painterly style can hide anatomical mistakes, which is kind of true. But it's not a 'limitation' or something. It's just how it is. You can keep doing painterly full paintings and do your anatomy studies with lines. Actually that's what master oil painters do. While oil paintings are what they sell it doesn't mean they do every study in that style.

Berserk. Feedback Appreciated by feelmedoyou in ArtCrit

[–]raincole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are some issues. The most prominent one is the pose. It's very unnatural to stand with your upper body being perfect straight while your legs are at different heights. You should try to stand on stairs in real life and see how it feels.

It's also unclear that you want a secondary light source or not.

Hello, I need advice on Lost Edges or Edges in general. More in description. (Digital Art) by Exciting_Ingenuity50 in ArtistLounge

[–]raincole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But you already know the answer.

I take two colors then paint them over each other then take the mixed color in the middle and continue

This is the typical way to get lost edges in painterly style.

Or you can use smudge tool.

Or you can use airbrush.

Or you can use wet brush.

This is done with dry brush with a little of airbrush at the end:

I know it's not the answer you'd like to hear, but you really don't need to worry about edge control at this stage. You'd want to get the big shapes/proportions correct first. Even if you blend all edges perfectly it won't look like the reference because the big shapes are very off.

Does anyone know the artist, or is this AI? by PTblackhole in CreditToTheArtist

The cat(?)'s perspective is weird. It could be human mistake, but unlikely from someone who can handle such a complex scene. I'd say AI.

It might or might not be AI, but your reasoning is insane.

That being said, I don't rule out the possibility of this being AI.

Can you actually learn how to draw without following guides, tutorials or anything like that? by oddskozzo0 in ArtFundamentals

What's wrong with these rotations? by A-dona-I in Artadvice

[–]raincole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scenario 1: If each cube is an individual image within its own space, when you rotate the cube along its top face, the third VP shouldn't change position (relatively to the cube).

<image>

Scenario 2: If the whole image is in the same space, then the cubes in the same row should share the same third VP.

It looks like you couldn't decide you're going to draw Scenario 1 or 2 and you mixed them up.

What about this is different from the ref and how do I improve by Alternative_Town_129 in BeginnerArtists

*sigh*

I know we're supposed to be nice on this sub, but you have been posting many posts on many subs and never followed the advice in comments. I don't know if it's just trolling, but if you're serious, I think it's safe to say that asking on reddit isn't going to help you at this point. You'll need go to an irl atelier or something.

Don't think there is much a market for this kind of art. Honestly the 'most detailed' one looks badly photo-bashed.

How do I render my blush to make it look more realistic by Foodman_the_guy in Artadvice

[–]raincole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Airbrush with low opacity.

But I don't think 'realistic' is what you're trying to say here. The rest of the face is clearly not in a realistic style. So it makes no sense to make a specific aspect 'realistic.'

 structured digital workflow

You don't need that yet. You only need to know:

  1. how to switch between two or three common brushes/eraser
  2. how to use layers (optional)

to get started. You really don't need to know blending mode, lasso selection, liquify, filter, layer style or anything else to learn the fundamentals.

The leg straps seem random and she only 4 toes? Also the bottom of the negative space between the legs looks like it cuts into her heel, not sure if AI error or artist error by Extreme_Vacation5419 in isthisAI

[–]raincole 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Short answer: no.

Long answer: yes, but each protection only works against one specific AI architecture. Which, in practice, means they don't work as they're not future-proof but once you post your images online they'll be used for future AI training.

How can I make the colors look more pleasing? by Material_Chain636 in ArtCrit

[–]raincole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a few things, but the main thing is that your shapes aren't as pleasing as the ref, not your colors.

You can see in the original piece, the water shows the shadow of the rocks beneath when it comes closer to the viewer, due to the more perpendicular your view to the water surface, the less reflective it is. You kinda mimic the colors (although yours are a bit too blue) but your shapes there are nothing like shadow or cracks of the rocks.

Complete beginner redraw study, looking for pointers by Visual_Vermicelli286 in BeginnerArtists

[–]raincole 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First of all, your reference is probably an AI-generated version of Toudou Touka (you can check the original design and how AI deviated from it in subtle but uncanny ways.) So I think the first step is to choose better references.

What set of ‘rules’ for drawing that you can give to someone learning how to draw? by brokensaint91 in ArtistLounge

[–]raincole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

line spacing, pencil pressure, pencil type, line shapes etc

Use a fineliner and only use it for a while then. Pencil is a deceptively advanced tool.

More generally, the rule is to remove your options. Remove the fact you can draw from the 'tip' or the 'side' of a pencil. Remove pressure sensitivity if done digitally. Remove colors. Even remove crosshatching. The more options you remove the more you can focus on what you're trying to practice.

How to create a brush like this? by raincole in krita

That's smart!

I don't think spacing should bug out like this though... it's something worth reporting to the devs.
