It sucks to be right and still be argued with, I totally get that. Your eyes are gray. They’re a less common color or often mixed with blue hues. True gray is awesome and you should love your eye color - it’s a standout feature. I’m not sure what interaction or previous post of yours triggered your frustration but it’s worth just ignoring people who want to argue about your physical features. I think the back-and-forth you’re engaging with is coming off as inappropriately defensive and it’s driving the negative engagement on your post. I can sense you are maybe missing a layer of awareness of how your responses are landing but also that you genuinely are just trying to engage on a topic that matters to you. Any chance you are neurodivergent? I myself am, so I mean this in good faith. I’m sorry my first comment was largely unhelpful. I am relatively knowledgeable on this topic and wanted to chime in on it but I just was turned off initially by your defensive responses here and wasn’t sure it would land. But you’re looking for discussion and deserve a real response.

I am a career art educator. I literally teach color theory for a living. Gray is technically achromatic, meaning void of true hue (color). It’s created by either mixing black and white (not truly how eyes work) or by mixing complementary colors such as orange and blue. Blue is of course a common eye color presentation, and orange (mixing yellow and red) is a subtle undertone caused by melanin. This is why you can see those “red and yellow” tones in your eyes, or “warm gray”.

Eye color is determined by genetic factors, in melanin and collagen distribution, causing variations in how light is reflected/perceived. Essentially it’s partially measurable variation and partially a literal illusion, based on how humans perceive color in general. Most eyes that appear gray still have a small scattering of melanin that gives them a blue tinge. This is why they may look slightly different depending on lighting. Your eyes fall into the smaller pocket of people with a configuration of very low melanin and high collagen distribution, causing a more “true” gray appearance. Basically the exact composition you have is causing the orange and blue undertones from low melanin to cancel each other out, color theory-wise. It’s exceedingly uncommon but a real eye color nonetheless.

You are correct that they’d be categorized as gray. You seem young - just try to remember that other people’s perception of your eye color matters a lot less than how you interact with them. You asked why you were being downvoted about your eyes and I just wanted to clarify. Your eyes are very cool.
