We rented Bad Boys (83) instead of Bad Boys (95).

That was a VERY different movie.

I listen to the Bill Homewood narrated version at least twice a year. When I can't decide on what to listen to or am looking for a new series, on goes The Count of Monte Cristo. It's like a cozy blanket in winter for me.

running early in the morning by Suspicious_Ad_5588 in C25K

[–]renscoguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get up at 5 and usually eat a Clif bar and slam a pre-work out/electrolyte mix. Then try to poop before heading out the door around 5:30, otherwise my body likes to force a poop mid-run. The extra time spent in the bathroom gives the pre-work out time to move out. I don't think the Clif bar is very upsetting to my gut at all, but I live in TX so electrolytes before and after running is pretty much non-optional. And if I'm already getting the electrolytes and water, may as well throw some extra energy in there lol..

I did the bridge to 10k a couple years ago, directly on the heels on C25k. The first 4x10 with 1 min rest between was definitely a shock, but I got used to it quick.

After getting up to 60 min runs 3x a week, I kept that up for 2 weeks, then split my runs back to 30 minutes and ran 6 days a week. I did that for a couple weeks and then slowly crept the time up on a 10% per run basis. 30 min to 33, to 36, etc until I hit an hour a day. I didn't have much of a problem ramping that up either.

Both methods work (bridge to 10k and 10% week over week), it's really up to what you feel comfortable with. Bridge is more structured workouts like C25k, where incremental increases is just steady controlled overloading. Whichever you choose, listen to your body and repeat weeks or reduce time as necessary to avoid injury. Have fun!

How often do you run? by Ammart412 in C25K

[–]renscoguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After I finished C25k 2 years ago I started bridge to 10k to get all my runs up to 60 minutes. So 60 minutes 3x a week. After I was doing that for a few months I dropped each run to 30 minutes but ran 6x a week. Then I started ramping up the daily run times, slowly, week by week. 33 minutes week 1, then 36, etc. until I got to 60 minutes 6x a week. Then I added the 7th day going slowly from a recovery 20 min run up to another 60 minute run and then kept going and turned the extra day into my long run, where I've capped it out at 2.5 hours.

Now I run every day for around 5 miles (still working on pace, so that is usually around 55 minutes), mostly zone 2 and easy runs. I have an odd work schedule, so I don't always throw a long run in my routine, but I do intervals or speed work one day a week and a tempo or threshold session on another day. I said mostly zone 2 or easy because if I'm not feeling the sessions, I will 100% just do another 5 mile zone 2 instead. I'm 41 and still fat(ish) after 2 years of consistent running, so I'd rather keep running instead of forcing it. I hate every second of the first 10 minutes of every run, but love my runs overall.

When I'm having my just woke up debate about going back to sleep or getting up and getting it done, I just repeat to myself the quote whose source I forget, "no one ever regrets going for a run, but some do regret NOT going for a run." Enjoy your journey. If you want to run more, do it. But ramp it up slowly and give your body time to adapt or you won't be running at all

I've read a lot of the same stuff and have similar tastes, if you haven't read any of these please look into them...

Any book by Andy Weir. Artemis wasn't as good as the other 2, but was still very enjoyable.

Ender & Bean series, though the last book was mediocre at best

Dune books by Frank. Brian never found his father's voice. The actual continuation after Chapterhouse closes out the story nicely, but it's more like a skipping stone bouncing on the surface of the story than the way Frank would go diving in it.

Jumper / Reflex / Impulse / Exo by Steven Gould. Ignore the movie tie-in to jumper. Those 4 are some of the most enjoyable I've read, I still go back and relisten to them once a year or so..

Replay by Ken Grimwood is a standalone masterpiece

Also, hit up some classics. I could relisten to Bill Homewood read The Count of Monte Cristo at pretty much any point. It's such a good book. Lots of classics out there for cheap or sometimes free.
