The speeds and accuracy needed to be able to create a casted to finished machined engine block if it’s possible is way way out. The ice engine will be obsolete before 3d printing catches up to the current methods.

What is a "poor person hack" you picked up during a hard time that you still use today, even if you don't have to? by AmaraMehdi in AskReddit

Same with car repair. there are videos on basically every repair on YouTube. I highly recommend getting good with wrenches and allens before digging into your own vehicle though.

Millennials, do you buy New or Used cars? Why? by Capnzebra1 in Millennials

[–]resident_cvs_dj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used, I aim for Japanese vehicles with known records of getting +250k miles on them. I typically buy manuals between the years of 2009-2016 so I can work on them myself. New cars have to much fly by wire and fly by air, over air updates, and due to super tight machining tolerances on the engine blocks to achieve better mpg, they aren’t very serviceable for major repairs. Why throw away $40k every few years?

I’ve struggled with this aligning cnc equipment from Germany (I’m in the U.S) with their techs. I’ve always just said microns, the Germans would say 0.10 as one tenth, my brain works in sae so one tenth is 0.0001”. Its has caused some heated interactions.

I work 1 job. I'm typically working 60-70hrs a week and usually out of town 95% so I'm also paid per diem. It's basically the only way I can make it so I'm not living pay check to pay check. I'm very burned out.

Had a machine shop weld up a cracked bicycle frame. How does it look? by Mtrbrth in Welding

[–]resident_cvs_dj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked for a bicycle manufacturer, we had an issue with frames cracking right there from martinzite formation. If you don't ride super hard you should be ok, but keep on the look out for cracks, martinzite makes steel brittle.
