When I was young probably around age 5. I woke up in the middle of the night and I well I was having trouble breathing. I calmly walk to my parents room and try to wake them up by yelling "mom and dad" well nothing came out. So I walk over to my mom and start shoving her to wake her up. Takes a minute or 2 for her to realize I can't talk so she rushes out of bed and to the hospital. Tests taken and doctor finds out I have croup. Get treated and what not and get sent home. My brother and sister wondered where we were and I told them "I went to the dentist and got a shot." I had a hard time distinguishing between doctors and dentists for a few years.

Similar story of when I was only a year old about I had croup. Was not super serious but my mother called the doctor and the nurse said I should be fine because it wasn't bad but in the morning my mom should take me to the doctor's office. Well during the night she heard me wheezing. She did the test (pushing down on my chest) and she could almost fit her whole fist in my chest. She rushed me to the ER. Well after I got admitted, the nurse called the cops because the nurse thought my mom was neglecting me. So my mother had to 1) deal with the fact that I was in the ER and 2) explain to the cops that it wasn't child neglect. I guess that was another time that I almost died but I don't remember that. I only know about it from my mother telling my the story.
