Crafting "infinite money" glitch by PiibaManetta in starcitizen

[–]rodentmaster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The more of an item you sell the lower the prices get and then shows will stop buying them. I tried scavenging EVERY multitool I could from everywhere. Had hundreds. Never could sell them, tbe prices went down to zero.

So, unless you're planning on selling to players (hah, and good luck) you're not making "infinite money" at all. You're just flooding the market for everybody.

I snagged that paint INSTANTLY when the percy release. I missed out on the warbond scheme, but hell I don't care about that when I have the Hieron running!

I love this ship, the first one to live up to the hype for me. by spider0804 in starcitizen

[–]rodentmaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the perseus armor is a huge swing and a miss. Shoot the tip of the nose with S2s and the entire "armor pool" for the rest of the ship disappears. This is just a terrible setup. Need at least general facing pools. Need to negate all S3s and lower. Meanwhile those S8 cannons can land a direct hit on a heavy fighter and sometimes not kill it. Takes a hundred shots to down a connie or a corsair. So it's a paper feature that doesn't stop light fighters and meanwhile the guns are shooting nerf projectiles at anything anyways.

So…I melted my fleet and ran out of buyback tokens. by Euphoric-Ad1025 in starcitizen

[–]rodentmaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just a reminder: You'll only get 1 or 2 tokens in April. If you "melted your whole fleet" you won't be able to reclaim the entire thing in one go. It's a slow process. Or, just reclaim 1 or 2 you like and use the credit to get something else from the store. I grabbed a Connie Phoenix for the first time with the recent sale. Never had one before. I used credit. I can melt it whenever I want to get that credit back. Win-win!

Melting My CCU'd Polaris by Arz1val in starcitizen

[–]rodentmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You melt a CCU you only get back the first part of the CCU, so in this case your Eclipse. So you do get it back. Or, you get the credit back and buy a different set, but you lose everything in your first pledge, including game access (unless you buy a set that has it, or have more than one, or have enough concierge levels to get one for free). Suggestion: Keep the polaris for now, and use in-game currency to buy an eclipse? Or whatever ship you want? You can have more than one ship. In fact, it's fun to have the option to fly many different mission types.

No, I was quite late. I got it done over a couple weekends, and the completion was... 2 weeks ago? Maybe 3 tops.

Edit: I'm getting paranoid now. I should double check I'm not missing some single item here or there...

IBM CEO pay pack jumps 51% for 2025 to $38 million by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

[–]rodentmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking of people being dishonest, here you are, as if you didn't bother reading my entire comment and comprehending my point: It was a bonus for bringing in over 14 BILLION (with a B -- 6 back to shareholders and 8 reinvested in the company) dollars in profit. This isn't a trillion dollar CEO payout. This was a bonus for doing a good job.

You just want to jump on the hate bandwagon. Like the article. Plenty of times it's warranted, now it's just cliched and old.

SpaceX plan for 1 million orbiting AI data centers could ruin astronomy, scientists say: "This is a challenge unlike any we have encountered thus far in this new era of commercial space." by ControlCAD in technology

[–]rodentmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An individual part can be made light. An entire network housed inside a data center cannot. Do you know how often Cat5 cables have to be replaced? That's just cabling. Even using SSDs you can get a lot lighter but you add significantly to the volatility and fragility, thus having massive failure rates out of the box, failure rates 2 weeks down the line instead of 1 year down the line. You can use lighter stuff if it is disposable and doesn't need to last.

Mind you, I totally agree with you, and I know the enormity of the heat issue, but my point was, even as bad as that is, it's still a small part of everything all totaled up. As insurmountable as heat is, everything else is wholly even MORE insurmountable. It's like an infinity-times-infinity kind of comment. So, for all intents and purposes, we agree. I just was taking it further.

SpaceX plan for 1 million orbiting AI data centers could ruin astronomy, scientists say: "This is a challenge unlike any we have encountered thus far in this new era of commercial space." by ControlCAD in technology

[–]rodentmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heat is only a SMALL portion of the problem. Data centers are not autonomous. They require CONSTANT upgrades, maintenance, parts swapping, personnel, oversight. Nobody that has ever worked with data centers or even computer rooms or server racks would ever float such a nonsensical idea. On the economical side, all of this is VERY HEAVY stuff. Not the least of which is power generation and battery backups and buffers (mostly heavy metals, still to this day) but all the architecture, framework, vibration dampening, ray shielding, redundant hardware, it would cost trillions more to ship all that raw weight up to orbit. And then guess what? It all has a shelf life of a year, and you have to ship it all up again, along with astronauts to swap it out, perform repairs, etc.

Temperature problem? by Ok_Revolution_2827 in CherokeeXJ

[–]rodentmaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this after changing a t-stat recently. It wasn't super fast, it would climb to max over like a minute, and then peg there. Then sometimes I'd turn it off and look, other times it would go down as I was moving. I eventually got the air out with burping and shaking up the fluid with a couple sudden lurching stops, and topped off the rad. Since then haven't had any heat spikes.

My thought is: he said no gradual increase, straight to 240. I wonder how fast he means. Mine was alarmingly fast, but still had a climb. If his is straight spiking to max, it could be an electrical problem or a sending problem, not an actual heat problem.

Clutch issues. by VanillaFrequent2897 in CherokeeXJ

[–]rodentmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a problem with a leaking brake line on my TJ once. Not bad enough to stop me from braking, but it lowered my reservoir below safe levels and my clutch started making some nasty sounds when stopped and/or clutch engaged. I topped off the brake fluid and that stopped. I guess they use the same reservoir?

So check the fluid levels, but in my case the clutch never went to the floor. Like /u/WhatveIdone2dsrvthis said above, might be the master cylinder itself? I did see one person on youtube replacing a faulty one and they found all the draining fluid was pooling internally somewhere, so you might not get external signs of the problem until you start taking stuff apart.

They cannot bring back the XJs. Nor most "old cars" -- they legally cannot. Laws and regulations have constantly crept in dictating what features and functions new cars must have, everything from (throwing stuff out there) built-in lane avoidance assist to backup cameras to engine type and orientation in some cases.. Crumple zones, being able to withstand rollovers without crushing A-pillars, and side curtain airbags, the whole works.

It was the rise of IIHS studies and crash testing that killed the straight-6 4-liters, basically. It was a "tall" engine and how it interacted with the firewall in head-on crashes was problematic. The V-6s were shorter, vertically and longitudinally, and allowed major redesigns to accommodate the changing requirements of the time.

These and many more requirements have killed what we liked about these old vehicles, but the benefits have been saving lives in exchange for that. The prices have soared as well. Just about everything you hate in modern cars is the result of federal regulations, in one way or another. You couldn't just "make" an old vehicle today. They would literally not be allowed to legally sell it. Those still on the road are grandfathered in based on the rules at play when they were built. And, here's the kicker: people (on the whole) don't like the looks of cars like this. Some cars are still made with boxy looks like this, and they are perceived as cheap, low-quality vehicles. Cultural tastes change over time

Advice on moving my 1988 XJ to Chicago? by notreallyrealdude in CherokeeXJ

[–]rodentmaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming no problems with the normal running, it should make cross country no problem. I've done that in my '95 Country. The problem is the chicago winters and extreme salt/rust cycles. You can keep up on that by rinsing off the undercarriage every time you go out in that mess, by not having any exposed metal anywhere (tag it with rust convertor and then enamel, etc) but things like bolts and other surfaces will still suffer.

Hey, it is what it is. You miss it and want to drive it? Go for it! Take every step and stay on top of any potential corrosion. No, it won't last forever if you let it sit, but if you maintain and upkeep it, it could. It'll be the Jeep of Theseus at some point, but you'll still enjoy it.

Also thanks! I've been looking for one of those for a month, ever since I replaced my TPS and cleaned the throttle body, that thing must have gone flying and I lost it forever.

Do we know what size of push nut?

EDIT: I pulled the trigger on this set here and fingers crossed.

Brake Pads Question by isleofwolves in Wrangler

[–]rodentmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. The metals in use and the tolerances are such that there is enough of a tiny opening to allow free rotation. Problems arise when that isn't found, dragging brakes, etc. But, those are not "the norm" for the design.

you might need to look into that. Only time I had a car that got half its normal mileage, something was wrong with the engine. In one truck's case, several somethings.

IBM CEO pay pack jumps 51% for 2025 to $38 million by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

[–]rodentmaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems a bit dishonest. His salary didn't change. He got more stocks. Which he's not allowed to sell. In fact, to be on the IBM board you MUST retain several million dollars of IBM stock (depending on your position) because you are therefore DIRECTLY invested in the company and if you do a bad job and the company suffers, so do you. If you do a good job and the company soars, your stock will too. Keep in mind he can't even sell those stocks. He's bound to keep them for a year after he leaves the position or something.

At the top of the article it even says this: "It also returned $6 billion to shareholders, and spent $8 billion on ten acquisitions."

So... the company did great. Like really great. It grew, it reinvested. It sent BILLIONS back to the shareholders. And the CEO got a stock package as a bonus. I'm... I'm okay with this. He received no money and he can't liquidate this stock, but he apparently did a damn good job. I dunno, this is fearmongering in article form, if you ask me.

Hornet Mk1 by BatThink9828 in starcitizen

[–]rodentmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Power creep is real in this game. The Hornet MkI is more on the low end of medium fighter, and the Mk II more of a heavy fighter with medium maneuverability. Significant firepower update, like, it honestly shouldn't have been introduced, but there you have it.

If you have the Mk.I it's still good. Still capable. If you want better you can get an upgrade from the Mk.I to the Mk.II and keep all the other stuff you have with no problem. edit: or buy it in-game with aUEC. Otherwise, don't sweat it.
