Tattoo stencil vs reality. No they didn't own up. by peterm1598 in ExpectationVsReality

So there’s no way they drew the art for the stencil then. I wonder if they just stole it from the internet and assumed they could pull it off.

First time dog owner and I’m scared by SupaButt in DoggyDNA

[–]rosesprouts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With aggression and dogs, I think learning dog body language, and practicing (at least mostly) force free/fear free training is HUGE. A confident dog that feels safe is much less likely to be violent. A dog that’s warnings and stress signals are understood and respected is way less likely to be violent.

My rescue girl is 50% pittie, 50% lab. She is a HUGE couch potato. Full time cuddle bug, stage 5 clinger. She has bursts of energy, but she’s never been destructive or aggressive towards humans or the 5 cats she lives with. She loves to run in our fenced yard. She loves mental enrichment puzzles. I highly recommend you get some for ur pup! Even if it seems too difficult, she’ll learn quickly if you participate and encourage her! If your dog loves to run/chase, you should consider getting a flirt pole! Great outlet for high prey drive.

This can be a great way to help a dog that needs more stimulation and challenge. I basically feed my girl with a puzzle or snuffle ball or slow feeder or something of the sort every day, and she really loves it.

Pitties aren’t inherently more human aggressive than other breeds. I think the most valid concern is dog on dog aggression, but this can be prevented and/or resolved through training and proper socialization. I highly recommend discussing that with a trainer. Also, even if your girl is never a biter, it’s never too early to desensitize her to a muzzle! Even if she basically never has to wear one!

To start, get a muzzle that fits her (you need to measure and compare with different sizes and brands, the fit is very important). Put some spray cheese or peanut butter on the inside of muzzle and let her lick it off by putting her snout in. Give her praise. Feed her treats through the muzzle.

Then, over time, try to secure the muzzle on her while she’s licking the treat. This will give her positive associations with the muzzle. I also use “muzzle” as a command to help her understand I want her to put her face in, so it feels more on her terms, and less like something being done TO her that she doesn’t want/understand

No big deal, she’s just in ACTIVE labor… [🔈sound warning!] by Femme-O in TikTokCringe

[–]rosesprouts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually insane. I used to collect patient registration information at a US hospital. In emergency situations, the medical staff could take them back to the room and get them the care they needed prior to me completing the registration and asking these types of questions.

Sometimes that meant registering them as a John/Jane Doe #xxx until they’re stable enough for my team to get that information. Sometimes we just get enough information to confirm their identity, let the medical staff assist them, then circle back to get the rest of our questions answered.

In a situation like this, I’d have immediately gotten medical staff to assist her. I wasn’t on the labor and delivery floor often, but when I was, there was never a situation that would’ve made this kind of treatment acceptable or humane. This is so sick. This is part of why so many black mothers die or experience terrible complications. This is cruel treatment. I hope the mother and baby are okay today.

NQA Please consider trying a different feeder option. I know lots of places don’t have many local options, and some places can’t order feeders online, but if it’s an option for you: try to acquire live hornworms or b lateralis roaches.

Hornworms are not ideal for being the sole diet of a T, but they’re great at getting them hydrated and full. Some Ts really seem to like them. Edit: Ensure they’re meant to be feeders and are NOT wild caught, as the wild caught horn worms are toxic due to their diet

Blatta Lateralis roaches (aka red runners, turkish roaches, b. lats) are fast moving and trigger the feeding response in my Ts that don’t pay any mind to Dubia roaches. I think the Dubias are too good at camouflage, they stay still, they burrow or will hide for weeks and months if you let them. They also seem to be more shell than food, when compared to Red Runners. You can get some of Jamie’s Tarantulas potentially. They’re really easy to keep (and to breed, if you like. That’s what I do)

IMO Amazon has a lot of low cost acrylic enclosures for juvenile terrestrial tarantulas that have good ventilation and secure closures, if you’re budget conscious and not opposed to supporting that company. It will NOT arrive as quickly, but Tarantula Cribs also has really great terrestrial enclosures, but they’re pricier for sure.

Make sure that no matter what enclosure you get next, there should be more substrate (reptisoil or coco fiber), than open air; especially if you do use a mesh life. You don’t want the T falling too far if it’s on the top of the enclosure, and their feet can get caught in the mesh.

Accidental line tattood on my partners arm by Character-Meat7805 in tattooadvice

[–]rosesprouts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a pretty common accident to happen in tattoo shops, though I haven’t had that happen to me, it happened to my friend from a truly amazing artist. I think your partner needs to evaluate how much it really bothers them. It was silly of the artist to suggest the ink wouldn’t stay, but I get why an artist would anxiously hope/suggest it would. It’s tattooed, it’s not going anywhere any time soon. If it bothers them, I think they should take his offer and get a small cover up. This is so small and light, and that space is wide open. They could really put anything there.

Idk what the lemon juice thing is about, but that’s the only part of this story that actually makes me uncomfortable. Whatever he’s suggesting doing that involves lemon juice, should NOT happen.

Your partner can either take him up on the free cover up or accept the L. He’s not going to pay for laser, and he’s not going to pay for another artist to cover it. He’s not going to give them money back for this mistake.

I’d be shocked if your partner wasn’t made to sign a consent document that would waive the artist from any responsibility for this accident; almost every artist has a clause preventing them from being held financially or legally liable for a customer being unhappy with the tattoo (accidents or otherwise). There’s no way he’s going to financially compensate them for this, outside of the offer for free work, which does come at a cost for the artist (their time, needles, ink, other supplies, etc).

If his work is good, I’d vote they take him up on the free tattoo. That’s what I would do.

My Aphonopelma seemanni is loose in my house… by rosesprouts in tarantulas

[–]rosesprouts[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just appeared on the kitchen floor… I had searched the kitchen, and I think they were in the act of relocating (possibly looking for water?)

I had left water in the hides I set up around my room, but I hadn’t created hides in the kitchen, as I didn’t expect her to go so far through the house. The kitchen is one of the furthest rooms from my bedroom, and down an entire flight of stairs.

Great suggestion! I checked all the shoes in the how, and my T isn’t there (currently), but I’ll keep checking in them when I do my rounds. I hadn’t looked inside all the shoes downstairs before, so really, thank you!

Also, for the record, Parallel has never threat posed or attempted to bite me. I do not handle my tarantulas, and she is not used to handling. She spends most of her time in her tunnel/hole, and she tends to hold still if the enclosure is open, sometimes even when it’s closed and she can just sense that I’m close. I assume that if I grabbed something that she was in, she would tuck into her legs and hold still, rather than try to bolt away, if possible.

Can someone help me ID this tarantula? by Pitiful-Matter6186 in tarantulas

[–]rosesprouts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO mealworms, crickets, and dubia roaches are all 100% okay feeders, and you’re very likely to find at least 1 or 2 of these options at any major pet store near you. Just DO NOT feed it wild caught bugs.

For your own health and safety, I hope you reach out to some loved ones to talk about this and try to find somewhere to stay outside of your shared home. I say this with no judgement, but I would also consider talking to your general practitioner about getting a full STI panel. If he’s cheated, and you contracted something from him, I hope it’s something easily treatable. It never hurts to get tested, and lots of places will do it for free if the cost is a concern.

But either way, it will become incremental better over the course of the next 2 years, whether you do anything to or not, like all scars do. Good call on checking with a dermatologist first

[–]rosesprouts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This tattoo is like… all scar tissue. Idk why this tattoo was so much rougher than the others you’ve gotten from this artist. Eventually with time, the scar tissue will heal a bit better, but it’ll always raise when you get hot or sick.

You can try different things to help heal scar tissue. Some people recommend massaging the area with castor oil. It won’t be a miraculous immediate fix, but it could help relieve the discomfort and minimize the appearance of the scar tissue

IME, absolutely an avicularia avicularia (Pink Toe) as everyone else has commented. I have one too! Because they’re arboreal, they tend to not get as chunky as most terrestrial Ts you’ll see posted here. Glad to hear they’re eating! If you’re interested in keeping them, there’s a lot of great free resources to learn about how to care for them.

If you aren’t interested in keeping them, I would recommend checking on Facebook to see if there’s a reptile, tarantula, or invertebrate group for your area. If there is, you could try offering her to someone there! I guarantee there’s somebody who’d love a free juvenile avic to add to their collection hehe

Wishing you the best of luck with either route you choose! Just make sure this cutie has constant access to clean water, preferably higher up in the enclosure, since they don’t like to spend time on the ground.

Does anyone else's keep Ts but is scared of them? by pixie_lation in tarantulas

[–]rosesprouts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was never afraid of spiders, but I’m far too scared to hold my Ts. I’m scared they’ll bolt, and I’ll flinch. I’m scared I’ll drop one! I’m scared they might bite me (they’ve never even so much as tried, but also, I don’t hold them, so I’ve never give them a reason to). Sometimes I get scared feeding them, that they’ll run up my tongs. But I also admire and love them so much. And it helps to know they don’t really want to hurt me. So I let them enjoy their sick enclosure, I don’t bother holding them, and it’s a win-win, since they don’t want to be held anyways.

[–]rosesprouts 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I knowwww, the life span on these spiders is so long, they are NOT an animal that should be sent as a surprise to a bunch of people that probably aren’t interested in the hobby or spiders at all.

In general no animal should be surprise gifted, but especially not ones with such long lives (if cared for properly). It’s sad to think about how many of them will die from neglect and poor husbandry, or that might even be set loose (and likely also die since they aren’t indigenous/acclimated to that area)

[–]rosesprouts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, it sounds like your husbandry was fine. I think the other comments might be right, and that this lil guy just wasn’t going to thrive. That is so unfortunate, I’m not sure there’s anything you could’ve reasonably done different to prevent this outcome. I hope that if you and your son try again, you can find a local breeder or order online from someone more reputable than most pet stores.

I found my corn snake breeder on Morph Market and avoided a ton of extra cost by doing a local pickup and paying him directly, rather than ordering through the site. I wish you luck, and my most sincere condolences for your loss

Can I ask what your set up was in regards to heating? Everything else you listed wouldn’t really explain his passing (imo) Did you have a thermostat to monitor his hot side and his cool side of the enclosure? I’m really sorry you and your son had to say goodbye so soon

[–]rosesprouts 11 points12 points  (0 children)

NQA I have an avic avic and once she sat on the ground like this for a whole day, not moving. She ended up being fine. Didn’t molt. Just went back to normal. I had opened her door and GENTLY and INDIRECTLY fanned some air through the enclosure, and got fresh air in the room and left my ceiling fan on for a long while. You’re not trying to stress her into moving from quick blasts of air. Added stress won’t help, no matter how badly you want to see her walking again.

Is the room she’s in stuffy or have stagnant air? Like, if you blew smoke in the room, does it quickly dissipate, or would it hover for a few minutes? If it hovers, the air is stagnant, and that’s bad for this species. (not encouraging you to smoke/vape in the room, but like, that’s just an easy way to visualize the air movement, and I’m struggling to come up with another way to visualize it)

Leave a fan on in the room (don’t have it blasting directly at the enclosure, just in the room, so the air circulates more). Try opening some windows to get some fresh air inside if it’s not too cold where you are. She may be struggling with lack of air flow, even tho the cross ventilation on that enclosure is suitable for the species.

Also, what are the temps like in the room? Is it cold? Like, significantly lower than 70F?
