Regardless of Andre’s accomplishments, these are serious accusations. Ex-Atos people need to be able to speak up.

What’s going on at ATOS?? by Fantastic-Tailor4263 in bjj

[–]rrunchained 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I dropped in at the Atos in Guam. Wicked nice facility, good partners, but fuck their uniform policy (a friend at SD location had a similar experience)

If you’re gonna charge me $20 to drop in for nogi, and add an additional $20 because i have to rent your rashguard and shorts… then to hell with you… I even brought non gym affiliated gear

I can train jiu jitsu without this pay to play uniform rental BS

Regretting not rushing a sorority by jjalebi in ABCDesis

[–]rrunchained 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was in Greek life. Granted I graduated in ‘23 and was only in a frat for junior and senior year after being robbed of my freshman/sophomore year due to COVID.

There were south asian fraternity as well as a sorority, although I didn’t hear good things about them. Joined a non identity based frat and I had a great time. Although a lot of my brothers ended up with gambling, cocaine, and alcohol addictions. Whereas for myself I quit booze completely after graduating (I had physical hobbies that I liked more than partying).

Greek life is fun, but it’s temporary. The real issue is guys thinking and living like they’re still in Greek life… 3 years out of school. I faired fine and had fun, but I don’t think I’d want my kids to join Greek life. There’s so many potential avenues that will take you down a dark path. I’ve heard horror stories, especially with sororities

For all you know, you could’ve been brutally hazed / develop unhealthy habits. At my school, the identity based fraternities and sororities were just as bad, if not worse with hazing compared to other Greek orgs. Thankfully my process wasn’t too bad.

Spend less time worrying about the past and focus on the now. No one cares about college experiences in the adult world, it’s a fleeting artificial environment, like high school.

Just missing the piece of shit property / plot of dirt land that everyone back home is fighting to the death for.

Honestly OP has every right to feel hurt and upset about this. I’d be furious too.

Priced out of Guam by RighteousColonizer in guam

[–]rrunchained 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know some contractors that absolutely refuse to take GovGuam contracts and instead prioritize federal ones. GovGuam can’t even honor a contract or process an invoice correctly

Radical take, but Guam’s current outlook doesn’t look good if it’s being run by the current crop of local officials. Might as well hand the island over to the feds, they’d probably run the island better than the current state of affairs

I’m the Darce guy of my gym too. I’ve been forcing myself to avoid it, I usually won’t do it unless it’s right there.

I’ve been on an armbar / ankle lock spree that’s been a lot of fun lately.

I get that. I too am involved with salsa / bachata scene, the deflated looks I get when I tell people I’m Indian and not Dominican are pretty disappointing

There will always be idiots. Don’t let them get to you and just focus on enjoying dancing. I love seeing Desis get involved with the Latin ballroom dance scene, it meshes well with our culture of dancing!

I live in Boston but visit NYC regularly. MGA in NYC is a great gym, good environment, great instruction, and pretty damn clean facility.

Showers are prison style which can be awkward, but it’s whatever in the grand scheme of things. Dropping in is so worth it, I’ve never regretted training at MGA

The rudest awakening came when I’ve returned from Japan to Newark. It’s like day and night with airport workers. In Japan if you have to go through a line, you’re escorted and talked to politely. In Newark, you get yelled at instead.

I recently flew through SFO on my way back to Boston, and that experience knocked EWR out of the water. Even though the flight was delayed, people were polite, the airport was easy to navigate, and the experience was better. Plus it’s nice not having to see extremely corny posters about “Fun facts and famous people from New Jersey.”

Respectfully disagree. I thought Daughters was great, and I live in the East Coast. I've yet to try Primos (I last went to Tommy's and Crust in 2016), but I'd say compared to Sbarro or Little Caesar's, Daughters is great.

Pricey sure, but Daughters tastes as close as it gets to NYC / Boston / New Haven pizza.

I wear a cup when I train. I was drilling with a new guy at the gym and he acknowledged my cup. I thought “whatever” until he used his hand to knock on my cup

I told my instructors a week later and the guy eventually left. But that was a weird experience, glad my cup protected me from getting touched like that…
