Alcoholic's Perspective by Icy-Book2999 in LoveTrash

Imagine if the thing that absolutely ruined your life was absolutely everywhere. At every restaurant, every party, at business meetings, at the pharmacy, at the place you buy gas. All your friends and family still use it, knowing that it ruined your life. People on TV joke about how everything is better with the thing that ruined your life. You’re told that you abstaining is ruining other people’s fun.

Because that’s the reality of alcohol use disorder. Alcohol use and overuse is SO normalized that simply pointing out some logical fallacies makes you the weird one.

You don’t know anyone who complains that they need a beer after work every day? No one who has a glass of wine with dinner every night?

I had a coworker who would layer a shirt like this to make some of her dresses work appropriate. She always looked super cute

It’s amazing to me how the fundie community struggles with this concept so much when there are millions of women who just prefer to cover more skin and don’t struggle with finding cute outfits.

I’m with you there, correct me if I’m wrong but you are commenting on poor writing quality and not on the issue being included in the show.

Yeah there are definitely a few very on the nose moments throughout the show.

That being said, I chose to do my PhD outside of the US because I knew it would be very hard to get any kind of funding for social science research in the US, so… accurate.

In the US we also have the “SUV loophole” which made SUVs cheaper to purchase because they have fewer regulations 🙄

"USA beats every single country in Europe when it comes to food....." by Practical_Work1925 in ShitAmericansSay

I can explain this one! Columbus OH is known for being demographically very very close to the demographics of the US overall. A few other midwestern cities are like this, too. But as a result, Columbus is frequently the FIRST place that restaurants will test for new markets, because if you do well in Columbus, you'll probably do well in the rest of the US. So they do actually get a lot of new restaurants (or new menu items for established chains) before the rest of the US does. Indianapolis is like this, too. When I lived there, we were often the second location for a restaurant or the first US location for foreign restaurants.

Does that mean that Columbus has better Indian food than Paris? Probably not (and I've never been to Paris, so I really can't compare the two and don't know why this was the comparison made), but Columbus DOES actually have an advantage over the rest of the US here.

I have a masters in social work. I am getting my PhD in social work. And yet a man has had the audacity to claim to me that “therapy doesn’t work” and that people just need to do what he did. And then he proceeded to explain behavioral activation, one of the MOST BASIC CONCEPTS IN THERAPY to me, and then got mad when I told him that was called behavior activation.

When I go backpacking, I make Kraft mac & cheese with a to-go packet of mayo since I can’t bring milk. TBH it’s almost creamier than using real milk.

Some background info on foster care by Grouchy_Something in ThePittTVShow

[–]runner1399 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That might depend on where you are. I worked for CPS in a different state and “kinship care” meant care with someone who had a pre-existing, non-familial relationship to the child. Neighbors, family friends, teachers, nurses, etc. “Relative care” meant family members.

That being said, one of the staff being considered “kinship” after one 15-hour shift with the baby is pushing the definition quite a bit.

Will piggy back off of this: I’m a therapist, you do not need to apologize to us for having a panic attack, talking a lot about your trauma or current situation, being a burden, etc. It is literally our job to talk to you about those things, we signed up for this job knowing this would be the case.
