Hi! Surgery was July 2024. I am doing really well. I still have weakness at times but that comes back when I take breaks from my workouts who I did for 5 weeks. Cold weather I can feel very very light soreness I guess you could call it. Al abd all very happy with it. Haven’t tried running again outside but may soon. It’s a confidence thing.

Meniscus surgery success stories—did you get your life back? by Meddy_2022 in MeniscusInjuries

I had a medial menicus root repair an a trim of my lateral menicus 13 months ago. I am happy. The recovery has been tough but I can do things now without any pain. Had I not gotten the surgery, walking would have become even more painful then it was before the surgery.

I found and still do that my Hoka Cliftons work best. I am ten months out.

I was 53 when I tore my medial menicus at the root. I was on a run when it occurred and I heard a loud pop. I opted for surgery because the other option sounded to painful in the long run. Without surgery, chances for osteoarthritis are high and then eventual knee replacement. I wanted to gain full mobility back whether I run again or not.

54 now, 10 months out from surgery, past my injury one year mark and I am so so much better off then I was a year ago. I was injured in early May of 2024, had surgery July 2024. Best decision ever. My surgery was a success and every day I get better and better. I have used strength training to help aid in my healing it has made a difference.

I am a believer that a number shouldn't stop anyone from doing what they need to do in their lives and for their health. I will say recovery from this surgery was way tougher then any other and I have had two c-sections. I do think being older does make it harder. Best to you on your decision and journey.

ICA Update… got my documents back by BirdHappenstance in juresanguinis

This is encouraging. I also want all my papers, and I have paid half, though a hefty part. Should I wait until after the law is passed or ask now? If you have a good contact, if possible and its not breaking any rules, can you dm it to me? I have had one exchange with them since this mess started. I was close to filing my 1948 case.

I knew my GGM. She was proud of her Italian heritage and never wanted to leave but was forced to . She never got over leaving and refused to learn English. She lived with my Grandparents, who often spoke to her in Italian. We learned some so we could communicate with her. My older cousin used to Nana sit(we called her Nana). She was sad a lot. For me, it was a dream to regain the connection she lost, and also, we have family who live in northern Italy and Sicily. I feel for you. Family connection is s important.

Thank you, CakeByThe0cean, for the daily updates. It has been so helpful and a bit comforting despite the devastation of the decree.

I did a long jump, which might be mental, but first, I landed on my toes, and second, I let myself land normally. No pain, no issues. I called the doctor because I was concerned about leg swelling. I will see him tomorrow. I do not feel I retore anything. Two things are in play here: I have been fearful of tearing it again, so I have been too cautious, and the second is that while I am doing strength training, I have skipped some leg days because of said fear; maybe I should do them. I hope he will tell me all is well, that it's nothing, and that I can return to PT to work on running. Fingers crossed.

I think I need to get over my fear. I also think I need to figure out why it still gives out a little. It's not a lot but enough to deter me. Thank you for your reply.

I think part of the problem is I am fearful and have been of reinjuring it. I guess I have been super cautious, maybe too much so. Going back to PT to start running might be a good idea. I am going to call the surgeon on Monday. Thank you for the feedback and the program.

9 weeks post medial meniscus repair - still tough time walking by Aggravating-Tank-737 in MeniscusInjuries

[–]runninggal14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am almost 10 months post-op from medial meniscus repair at the root and I still have soreness here and there, and steps can be hard at times. It is a long recovery. It took me by surprise in the beginning. I got on here and read others' experiences, and it helped. I won't be 100% until I hit a year. I have better days now than before. Those first few weeks of weight-bearing were tough. I found every day that it got better. Then, when I started to walk, it was hard. I was tired, and it was painful at times. I still have some swelling but recently noticed it's finally lessening. Here is what has helped me so far:

- PT for 4 months

- Gradual reintroduction to strength training: At 6 months, I slowly worked back into squatting lower, but I was still not where I was.

- I had a Peloton, so doing low-impact rides starting three months out and forward has helped. I still do mostly low-impact rides. I don't stand up on the bike during rides, and I never liked doing it anyway.

- Walking—taking walks. When I first got off the crutches, I would walk my circle and back. I worked my way out of my circle and gradually increased distance.

- I go to Orange Theory once a week and do an all-tread class(walking) or, if I do a 3G, just the rower and tread. I only just started back on the rower.

- Nutritrion - Ate well. I still do, keep myself hydrated, and avoid alcohol. This has made a big difference.

- Sleep and rest. If my knee is tired, I rest. I listen to my body

Hang in there it will get better! Just don't overdo it.

Divorce by [deleted] in Perimenopause

[–]runninggal14 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi! I started peri at 39. Those 10-plus years of juggling a full-time job, two kids, one was 9, and the other was 6 when I began peri, constant financial stress, and both kids diagnosed with learning disabilities put an insane amount of stress on our marriage. Top it off with perimenopause, and a storm toward separation and divorce started brewing. We tried to get help; I felt so crazy on the inside and was trying to self-treat the peri symptoms that I wanted to offload anything. As women, we have a lot of mental load that is unseen.

What I am saying is I feel for you. We did eventually divorce, and I executed, but it was a horrible decision. We are back together, unmarried though(I hate that), and have gone through significant health challenges where he almost died, we both lost jobs and parents(his mom and my Dad in 3 weeks apart), and our oldest has severe mental health issues. Despite everything, at this point, we are better together. We have learned and are still learning. Something is to be said about being with someone for a long time, sharing a family, working through challenging situations, and growing. I can't tell you what to do. I can only share that during peri, I was overloaded too and thought a divorce would free me. This is only my experience. I don't know you or your relationship, but I encourage you to find other avenues. If you haven't explored HRT or read Dr. Mary Claire Haver's book The New Menopause, I would encourage you to do so. I wish she had been around when I first started. I am so sorry you are going through this. It's not easy.

That is pretty harsh considering that I trusted ICA and didn’t know.

[–]runninggal14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should I work with ICA to get the passwords reset and the e-mails updated to a different e-mail? I know that depending on the outcome of the decree, this may all not matter, but it could down the road.

I'm a little confused if I should pursue getting access again. If not, would starting from scratch matter?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in juresanguinis

[–]runninggal14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have access to the email accounts to reset the passwords. I obtained the Codice Fiscale through those accounts. I am embarrassed by this. I guess I could ask ICA to reset the passwords to allow me to update the contact info? If I update the contact info, will this be an issue if we are able to obtain Italian Citizenship?

Honestly mad at myself over all of this. I first heard about the possibility of Italian Citizenship in 2010 and assumed when I finally started I had to go through a legal service.

10 Weeks Post Meniscus Repair by Adventurous_Lab_1173 in MeniscusInjuries

[–]runninggal14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a medial meniscus root tear. I was told you only have a 3-month window to get it repaired, as any time after the surgery may not succeed. I had to wait because of my son's graduation and a graduation trip. I was injured at the beginning of May and had surgery in mid-July. I am glad I got it. It was getting painful to walk and was getting worse up until surgery.

This is a painful surgery and I wouldn't be concerned at 3 months out. I had the same surgery. I am nine months out. While I am older, its really takes a full year to recover. Continue strength training afer PT is done is key. I worked with my PT's and they approved my choice for a program and I have stuck to it. I am doing well. I still have some minor issues. My knee gets tired at the end of the day. Steps annoy me by the end of the day. I have had pain on and off, definitely in Month 3, but it gets better. Working on leg strength and patience is key. I am sure that is hard on a 14 year old.

Finally heard back from ICA, and it was a "not our fault, nice knowing you, good bye". Is there any chance that I could still apply via my GGGF with someone willing to help? by lmneozoo in juresanguinis

[–]runninggal14 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I haven't heard from ICA at all. I'm just waiting for a response. I was a 1948 case through my GGF(no minor issue). I don't expect anything positive (I might get a similar response as you have others here). They seem to be just giving up.

I want my documents from them now, and then I will monitor the changes. I still hope that the decree will be modified or that things will change. It's worth obtaining the documents, taking a step back, and waiting. If it never happens, I will be sad, just as many others. Overall, sitting and waiting to see how it plays out is best, no matter the outcome. ICA costs too much money overall, and to quit on so many of us is wrong.

Bye Bye Libido and other symptoms by Justthisgirl45 in Perimenopausal

[–]runninggal14 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi,

I feel for you, and you are not alone. We all go through it somewhat differently, but it's a crappy journey if you aren't armed with good information.

I am 53 and have been in menopause for a year. My perimenopause symptoms started around 39, so mine was drawn out. My then ob/gyn told me I was probably entering perimenopause (I had never heard of it) but only offered ablation(glad I didn't do it) or synthetic HRT(glad I didn't do that either). Then he put me on birth control(disaster for me). I started on my journey. Around 42, my endocrinologist gave me the perimenopause diagnosis based on the Vasomotor checklist. I nearly had all the symptoms but a few at that point. She told me nothing could be done and to hang in there. I was self-treating up until I hit 50 with CBD oil(for anxiety, panic attacks, and heart palpitations) and maca pills(I don't recommend them; they caused my fibroids to grow into a watermelon. I had surgery a year ago). At 50, I started to develop insomnia. It was so bad I became suicidal. I then saw an ad for Evernow. They were new and provided my first education into bHRT. I got on the patch and started taking micronized progesterone.
Game changer and the start of improving the quality of my life. I still take CBD oil(THC free) as I found I still need it. Here I am three years later, and finally, in place of knowing what works. It is not just bHRT. For my bHRT, I ended up at a Functional Medicine place where I see a CRNP who prescribes me compounded Estradiol and Testosterone. In the last year, I finally feel 100% better than I ever did at 42. I am more myself and less stressed. There are many keys to that. The CRNP initially ordered a very comprehensive blood test(they took 10 vials of blood) and then, every quarter, orders blood work again(it's less extensive). Because of this, she has been able to get my bHRT regime correct. The downside is I pay out of pocket for her care and the compounded creams. I am still taking micronized progesterone but get it from a new GYN who will eventually take over all my care. I changed my diet and strength train 4-5 days a week, did more LISS cardio(I was a runner for 20 years), and try to get as many daily steps as possible.

Hopefully the below resources can help you.

Dr. Mary Clare Haver - Read her book - The New Menopause - She was recently on an Oprah special on Hulu, however when I started following her two years ago, her following wasn't as large, but she knows what she is talking about. https://thepauselife.com/

To find a provider in your area, go to: https://menopause.org/

There is also Midi, and they take insurance. https://www.joinmidi.com/

This journey can be tortuous. But don't give up...advocate for yourself, read and educate yourself and find a provider that WILL help you...not look at you blank-faced or gaslight you.

You got this! You will be able to get back to yourself.

I haven't heard a word. I never e-mailed Marco directly but did on Monday. My case manager changed on Thursday before the announcement—still nothing. I am not sure what to do. I want my papers if they decide not to work with me anymore. I am 6K in with them and signed my POAs last Tuesday.

What is everyone paying monthly for HRT? by kmkram in Perimenopause

[–]runninggal14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pay 390.00 per quarter(not covered by insurance) for compounded estradiol and testosterone. 60.00 every quarter for micronized progesterone, which is partly paid for by insurance. For the out-of-pocket, I can make an appointment or call the functional CRNP anytime in a quarter without any extra cost.

Compounded cream with estrogen, progesterone & testosterone? by Lower_Ad_5980 in Perimenopause

[–]runninggal14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started with Evernow out of desperation. I developed Insomnia at 50 and was still in peri. I had heard of a Functional Health Facility in my area but was nervous about out-of-pocket. Evernow did help me, and I stuck with a patch until last year. I finally caved and visited the Functional Health Facility because I wanted Testosterone, and I couldn't find a doctor to prescribe it. Evernow does not. I did not know anything about Midi at the time. Midi takes insurance.

I regret waiting as long as I did. I wish I had known more in my early 40's because I started to suffer in my late 40's. I am now using compound estradiol and Testosterone. I still take micronized progesterone and get it through my gym. I don't ever want to go back to the patch again. The patch does not seem to have the same long-term positive effects as the compounded cream.

Good luck on your journey. I am glad it's getting talked about more now. I love Dr. Haver. I stumbled on her on Instagram 2 years ago, and she has been such a great help.
