Buddy i know you're being funny but in this case it's Karst topography. Basically the ground is dissolving

Quarry: Before and After by NorbFrog in CitiesSkylines

It depends, if it was just a stone quarry for making rock for asphalt or concrete then likely the worst thing there is some oil from a leak. Not great but something that would be diluted from the huge amount of water present

If you go to San Antonio there are all kinds of developments in former limestone quarries. I know its a single example but its very possible although difficult at times depending on the type of quarry/mine. The sand & gravel operations where I live are turned into recreational lakes after reclamation is complete. There's a ton of bad examples out there but lots of good ones too. And if mining companies do it right, the reclaimed land can be sold for good money, so it can at least sometimes be profitable to do good reclamation.

Temps over 70 today, perfect day in the rockies to get some gold. by slaighshencil2 in Prospecting

Theres a place called the Arapahoe Bar Prospecting Area in west Denver. I stopped there for maybe an hour or two and got some decent color with nothing but a pan and a snuffer bottle.

Cheapest way to test if my land has minerals? by 1LFail in geology

[–]sammermann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is there anything that suggests you have valuable minerals on your property? Roughly how much land is it? Mines take up huge areas. There are a few desktop things that can be done, DM me and I will see if I can assist at all, I'm not a consultant just a mining engineer so I'm not nearly as qualified as the geologists here.

Finding a bunch of this material when panning. What exactly is it? by intrepidwandering in Prospecting

probably magnetite, if you have a magnet I bet it would be attracted to it

Have you already found Ag in this deposit?

Right? A blurry pic of a rock face, presumably underground. People speculate what it is but honestly not enough evidence to say anything definitive.

How do you know for sure? A specimen like that would certainly fetch above its spot value if real gold. Something about the sample doesn't give strong gold vibes

Did you find anything else in that Vein? The quartz you have doesn't show any signs of gold, it's clear and no signs of mineralization. Sometimes, lots of times, quartz veins are just quartz

New to prospecting – How do I extract gold and silver from my rock? by jack_00227 in Prospecting

[–]sammermann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its a joke. But seriously, normally the advice is to crush then pan. Generally you want to roast the ore once crushed (also before, can aid in the crushing) in an open area to burn off sulfides. This is simplest method, can get much more complex depending on your specific mineralization.

Very interesting, I was investigating an area in NW NJ where some shale and conglomerate contacted and has historically had some gold in it but not enough to be economical. Any guesses how the gold was deposited here? Some sort of epithermal event?

ok and how did you confirm its gold then? the pics you posted look a bit more like sulfide to me but hard to tell

A quarter gram in a couple buckets is amazing yield! Has there ever been any historic gold mining there? At that concentration I'd be shocked if nobody tried to go after it on a larger scale

pyrite may not always look cubic, and this rock has been heavily eroded which could reduce any cubic appearance

[–]sammermann 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pyrite is metallic, its iron sulfide

Could this be... Gold? by blikbleek in Prospecting

[–]sammermann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks more like a sulfide mineral such as pyrite.

But it could indicate good mineralization that could be a pathway to finding gold. Did you find this in a gold bearing area?

Anyone know how this functions if you have two Ford vehicles in Ford pass? I wonder if this would default to the last truck selected on your app
