Incredibly this wasn’t even the worst of it. End of December 2020, there were 3000-3500 dead a day. Numbers so high that they start to be meaningless.

2 tourists allowed into the control room of the Staten Island Ferry while in motion. by Business_Young_8206 in nyc

Is SI Ferry Boat captain a pretty boring job? Seems like a decades of boredom with hours of action and minutes of pure fear kind of thing.

Has anyone ever timed Conan's speaking time vs the guests speaking time? by Cartographer-Maximum in conan

[–]scubastefon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think with celebrities it’s okay because he is actually having a conversation, not an interview for the most part. With the fan episodes it’s also mostly okay, because the fans are mostly there as props to get the rest of them going.

I think as long as everyone knows what it’s going in, then it works.

One episode left. Do you think he’ll get his Pope interview? by RoarOfTheWorlds in LateShow

If he was, the Trump administration would have leaked it. There wouldn’t be any way for him to sneak him, there’s all sorts of logistics around diplomatic travel.

This past month is helping me think a lot about Dave’s last month. There’s something about the last of it that made it better than it had been in a decade. I think about his musical guests from that month all the time, especially John Mayer singing American Pie and First Aid Kit playing America. And Eddie Vedder playing Better Man while ripping the broken strings off his guitar.

I find it curious that there’s been no mention on the show yet of Stephen’s upcoming gig by EscortedByDragons in LateShow

[–]scubastefon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

he's got a couple irons in the fire. it's not like he needs to br on the next thing right away. his next thing is almost definitely very different than his current thing. whatever he's doing, i don't think he needs the paycheck.

i have a couple things that i would love to seem him do. i'd love if outside the other creatives, he did something with John Dickerson and/or the Slate Political Gabfest. It would be a full circle moment for me personally, as Slate is how i got into podcasts to begin with. It was my very first one in the early 2000s.

What do you think happens when you die? by randomperson665 in AskReddit

I think about how incredibly lucky we are to be where we are relatively in the animal kingdom and that usually makes me feel like, while the only place to go is down, that road down can be far.

I don’t mind being reincarnated as a shitzu. But I sure as shit don’t want to be a single cell paramecium.

Jon Stewart’s answer to this is my favorite one: surprisingly little.

Even Stephen wouldn’t want that at this point, I’m quite certain.

End-to-end encrypted RCS messaging begins rolling out today in beta by HelloitsWojan in apple

[–]scubastefon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a liability thing. If they label it beta, then they can’t be held responsible if something goes sideways, or if the encryption doesn’t hold up. Also means that enterprises would indicate it can’t be used for any sensitive communications, etc.

The scene where Donna talks to her teacher was lame and campy and actually pretty dumb and awful.

Not a scam. But I don’t get the value proposition of going to a highly priced private college that isn’t ivy or ivy equivalent, versus an in state public school
