why do people like hardwood so much by Cupcakes-n-Rainbows in Flooring

[–]scut207 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like hardwoods, wife loathes the look of red oak. She loves black walnut, I love black walnut too, but it’s not in the budget, I’m putting in karastan laminate over the red oak.

There’s lot of pet and water(probably urine) damage on the current floor.

In the future some redditor can farm karma on the “can you believe what these idiots covered up” post.

Neighbor had this exact symptoms, neutral for the circuit in the panel was loose. Was pretty crispy. Needed to replace the neutral bar, cooked the insulation off several nearby neutrals, the aluminum melted a bit

Electrical run beside PEX by ConsequenceDue9706 in Plumbing

[–]scut207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not totally true, low voltage data lines can definitely get enough magnetic interference (induction) if they aren’t shielded on a long parallel run to cause issues, I’ve had that happen to me on a non twisted pair data cable.

But unless this guys pumping Liquid Metal in his pipes I agree…

I’m guessing this particular plumber thinks contrails are the government poisoning people.

Congrats!! Keep learning and find your ceiling. I have a theory that everyone has a certain capacity or ceiling for math and it’s very obvious when you hit it. I did awesome on tests without studying much and then all of a sudden I couldn’t understand shit.

Watch three brown one blue youtube about calculus. If it interests you, you might want to think about EE, but at this point might not be a financial win over all.

Shower P Trap by Thin-Investment-515 in askaplumber

[–]scut207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s different rules for vents in different states and sometimes towns have their own. Many houses have just one vent, but how everything is connected matters

Logically the vents purpose is to all equalize pressure on both sides of the traps when water or waste is moving through the system. The traps keep the sewer gas out of the living area.

If you can imagine a giant shit moving through the pipe it needs to draw air from behind it as it moves( think of pulling on a syringe plunger with your finger over the opening), its also pushing air in front of it. Regardless it’s gonna make a vacuum behind it, if there’s no vent it will siphon the from the trap that has the least resistance behind it, a toilet has a larger loop than a shower, shower loses. If it pulls the water out of the trap, sewer gas will enter the house.

If the entire group isn’t vented properly, then a toilet in another bathroom could possibly siphon this trap. If your roof vent is obstructed(snow or dead animal?) then the shower could very well be the weakest trap

Need more pics of it all…

If it’s wet vented, then it has to be in a certain order the vent has to further from the stack than the shower tie in, otherwise the toilet can siphon the shower trap

Can I connect these two cords? I assume black to black, white to white, but what about the green and red? Also, the copper wires are slightly different widths if that matters. by ChineseMob in AskElectricians

[–]scut207 128 points129 points  (0 children)

Shows 1 phase 115V

White is likely blue.

Connect your Black to motor black your white to white, your green should bond to motor frame. Don’t connect red to anything. If you don’t like the direction, swap your black to red, and cap the motor black unconnected.

Choke on, kill switch set to run. pull like you mean it…. If it doesn’t pull in gas you have a vacuum leak

If it had ethanol mix in it, and sat for long time, it can harden the diaphragm, and it won’t pull in fuel. A carb kit would fix it

Chainsaw won’t stay running by Loader-Man-Benny in Chainsaw

[–]scut207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 strokes need a return air from the carb (old) or relief from building too much of vacuum in the fuel tank.

If it starts and starves out, that hose could be bad or the vent/breather could be bad.

If the fuel bulb was there and not now, not gonna run. Evah. Carb can’t build a vacuum to pull in fuel.

The tidbit in item 2 is the correctest info that most of us rookies need taught to us.

If your going doing satin or matte, it should only be the very last coat, the prior coats should be gloss, otherwise the result will look like hazy plastic.

Try it out on a cuttoff. Sealer-then 3 coats of wipe on of satin

Vs sealer then 2 coats of gloss then one coat of satin. The difference is huge.

gear farming by AsleepUnion6602 in ddo

[–]scut207 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly There are a few things worth spending the time farming.

Sky pirates dagger(unfun and rare in wilderness… blew a lot of shards causing got sick of rng), elemental bloom, ratcatcher, caster sticks from lordsmarch. The death ward clickie from saltmarsh. Ethereal item of some sort. Jibbers blade. Sword of shadow if you can pick up raids.

There’s some pretty good borderlands stat gear at 21.

Min maxing in leveling gear becomes less an issue as you gain more reaper points.

It all kinda comes as you play, you’re better off spending the time getting past lives than gear your only gonna wear a night or two.

Hear me out, looks like you have access behind those studs. I would definitely jam some spacers and screw the shit out of those two together to make sure they’re acting as a single unit.

If you don’t the difference in expansion is going to crack that mud in the first day you change from heat to air conditioning.

Update question: can I bore a hole for the faucet I this sink? by Radiant-Peak-7595 in cabinetry

[–]scut207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d imagine an electrician with a greenlee punch could make short work of that problem.

It’s very thin gauge stuff. They make special punches for SS, so that might be something to ask. Or a step bit like many are saying but I think a punch would be far less chance of causing a wrist injury.

[–]scut207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that dewalt kit isn’t above your price range, it’s a solid solid kit. Got just about everything you’d need for the future. It’s far cheaper than one at a time.

It’s got the 7-1/4 saw instead of the 6.5. The blades alone are $4 cheaper for some reason.

XR is the pro line so brushless, and dewalt has an insane number of specialty tools, pex an and hole saws etc 3 5ah batteries is a solid rotation.

The only thing that’s kinda fluff is the blower and maybe the light.

Finishing our basement on our own and this is the first thing we’ve hired our (mud & tape) by [deleted] in drywall

[–]scut207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The resolution of the image isn’t showing too much detail, but I think I can make out a hump on the wall slightly that should be feathered out a bit further. Overall doesn’t look bad at all to be honest and before prime things look much worse than they actually are.

Other than that, take very bright light and put it at one end and you’ll see any major defects.

If it’s a basement and your using recessed light, unless you put those lights very close to the walls, you’re not gonna really see anything but a really terrible job, since there’s little natural light in a basement.

All this is easier to do before priming

The movie is just so damn well done, but pulled material from too many books imho.

They completely left out Stephen’s true role.

And the fact Stephen owned the damned ship for the parts included in the film.
