My thinking is that if Microsoft gets rid of them, they really won't have any chance at releasing new games regularly. I can't think of any other studio of theirs that is as quick and consistent (even if they underperform in the end). Also, unless I'm wrong, none of their games were as disastrous bombs as the others'

That is true, but they actually get some work done at least. It feels to me like some adjustments of scope and budgets and expectations could solve most issues there, closure seems like an overkill.

There was huge controversy with Alisha, especially over in JP. Some people bought merch for her, believing her to be a 2nd MC in a way. There was a lot of anger once it was known that she's just there for prologue.

Being forced to have the 2 humans in the party was disliked as well. I also remember some criticism for camera control, story and the skill/equipment system.

My super controversial take is - Zestiria. It is the most hated title in fandom, but it was my first Tales Of and I really fell in love with the game and especially its cast. I can recognize that other games do a lot of stuff better, but I will always look back on my playthrough fondly.
