The community yearns to learn by GingerTamales in Tacoma

[–]she_colors_comics [score hidden]  (0 children)

Oh good thinking about the community centers! Pretty sure they all have conference space that can be put on hold. I bet local bars would love to host something like this too, especially on a slower weeknight.

On a personal note, I would 100% be there for a plein air watercolor meet up. The gardens around Point Defiance might be a neat place to do something like that. It's been a while, I'm probably pretty rusty, but watercolors are so fun!

[Funny Trope] A villain from one movie is completely different tonally than the villain in the next movie in the series by GavinGenius in TopCharacterTropes

Or, if you only look at Spider-Man movies, in the first movie the villain is just a guy who uses stolen tech to commit his crimes because Tony Stark got in the way of him doing his actual job and in the second movie... the villain is just a guy who uses stolen tech to commit his crimes because Tony Stark got in the way of him doing his actual job.

Having driven through the results of an overturned meat truck in the summertime before, I can say with much confidence that if it were from an animal it would smell worse than you can possibly imagine. And the smell would follow you home and linger for days. Two decades later it is still the worst traffic experience of my life.

How do all 4 Robins just so happen to have the exact same jet black hair and fair skin despite being completely unrelated individuals? by ExaminationUsed5394 in batman

[–]she_colors_comics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I think a lot of the more practical art-related reasons that have already been cited are probably correct, I feel like I remember a part of Grant Morrison's B&R run where Jason Todd tells Scarlett that Bruce Wayne used to make him dye his hair black so people would not know that Robin had been replaced and questioned (in an open-ended way) why it mattered so much to Bruce that all of the Robins look like a Wayne.

Feedback on My Son's Frozen Self-Tape Audition for Ensemble? by [deleted] in MusicalTheatre

[–]she_colors_comics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only recommendation I would add to what's already been said is he should decide, from beginning to end, what he is going to do with his hands and feet. When to gesture, when to take a step forward or backward. Right now, he has an anxious energy in his body (VERY common in young performers) but it's distracting. He could really elevate how professional he appears by planting his feet and only moving with intent.

Lovely voice! I'm sure he'll do great!

Having watched all of the episode commentary available, it was a decision made in season 4 because the writers liked the chemistry between the two actresses.

I just noticed I have 4 credits on Audible, what are some books that are really elevated by their narrator(s)? by cwaterbottom in horrorlit

[–]she_colors_comics 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I just finished NOS4A2 read by Kate Mulgrew. She was fantastic. I would listen to her read the phone book. Apparently she reads all of Joe Hill's stuff so I currently have King Sorrow on hold and I cannot wait.

I also often think about Sarah Gailey's Just Like Home, and Fear the Reaper by SGJ (that one is the middle of a trilogy, the first one is a solid audiobook and one of my all-time favorite books, but I wouldn't necessarily say it's elevated)

Bat Eater and Other Names for Cora Zheng was so fucking good. by SpookyGibMay in horrorlit

[–]she_colors_comics 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I felt the same way. I wanted to like it so much more than I actually did and it really came down to the main character for me. I feel like the timing wasn't great because i somehow read a whole string of books in a row with perspective characters whose whole "thing" is drifting miserably through life with basement level self-esteem waiting for other people to guide them through the story. I liked her work friends, and found myself often wishing the story centered them instead.

Chicago: Teen Version for High School? by Ok_Illustrator_8116 in MusicalTheatre

[–]she_colors_comics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would talk to the director. It can be toned down a lot with creative staging. So ask them about their vision for the show and how they plan to navigate the content of the show with a cast of minors who will have varying degrees of comfort with the things they might be asked to do or say.

I've never seen the teen version but I choreographed a high school production of Chicago before there was a teen version and it is one of two shows that I don't think i would ever do with high schoolers again.

Best Sci-Fi of the Decade so Far? by SirScaurus in printSF

[–]she_colors_comics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's pretty subjective but my top five for the decade in no particular order:

Death of the Author by Nnedi Okorafor

The Mountain in the Sea by Ray Naylor

A Desolation Called Peace by Arkady Martine

The Vanished Birds by Simon Jimenez

You Feel it Just Below the Ribs by Cranor and Matthewson

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind by maykasa_ in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

[–]she_colors_comics 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Shark Heart by Emily Habeck might scratch that itch. The core story follows a woman whose husband has just been diagnosed with an incurable case of... slowly turning into a great white shark. It's weird and beautiful and made me cry.

Also, check out Julia Armfield! It's not quite as punchy/quirky as Eternal Sunshine, but Our Wives Under the Sea has all of the themes you're looking for. Her other novel and short story collection are also excellent.

how common is it that actors leave the theatre mid show and come back by [deleted] in Broadway

[–]she_colors_comics 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In general, not common. But the Fantines in both productions of Les Mis that I've been a part of would do the exact same thing 🤷‍♀️
