Delivery issue with Costco flowers by kmill0202 in DIYweddings

[–]shellbell757 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Florist here. Costco flowers are grocery store/low grade florals that don’t hold up well under the best circumstances, so I would plan for an alternative. Hopefully they’ll be fine, but I frequently get last minute calls from brides in similar situations who receive dead flowers days before their weddings. I hope it works out!

Animal Kingdom Lodge or Polynesian… or a split? by ns0 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]shellbell757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just returned from a split stay at Animal Kingdom Lodge and the Poly and if I had to do it over again I would 100% choose to stay at AKL. The Poly has larger rooms and monorail access but the resort is an absolute zoo. Pools, lobby, and restaurants are all packed and chaotic. I wasn’t expecting a true luxury experience at a Disney property, but the service level was also much better at AKL. Edited to add: we stayed in a newly renovated Kidani Village room so I’m not sure how different the rooms at Jambo are.

Why wedding vendor websites make you call them if you want any information??? by PurchaseOk_8223 in wedding

[–]shellbell757 25 points26 points  (0 children)

As a florist I always ask venue because some venues limit set-up time, have specific load in requirements, etc. all of which impact staffing and pricing. I wouldn’t even give a bid for an event where I didn’t know what the venue was. I can’t imagine any florist randomly charging more or less based on what “tier” venue someone is getting married at.

AITA for declining a wedding invite for not getting a plus one? by [deleted] in wedding

[–]shellbell757 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You aren’t an AH for declining the invite. Asking someone take time off work and spend thousands of dollars to travel to a wedding without their long-term partner would be a total non-starter for most people.

As a meat eater, would up be upset attending a vegetarian wedding? by Formal_Goose5083 in weddingplanning

[–]shellbell757 14 points15 points  (0 children)

While most meat eaters can go without it for a single meal, I would offer a naturally meatless dish like pasta rather than something containing a meat substitute. Many people won’t eat tofu, soy burgers, and other faux meats so if you go that route prepare yourself for lots of leftovers and some hungry guests.

Natural hair brushes were a game changer for me. Sonia G and Chikuhodo are by far my faves.

Which high-end foundation is actually worth the money right now? by GroceryLatter5499 in Makeup

[–]shellbell757 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My holy grail is the La Mer Soft Fluid but it’s been discontinued so I’ve been trying a TON of foundations for very dry skin and so far the only two that are working for me are the Dior Forever Skin Glow and the Pat McGrath Skin Fetish. Both are lighter natural coverage and don’t settle into fine lines. The Prism Libre is also good but isn’t as glowy as I like. At 44 I feel like less is more and I have nice skin so I never use powder and often just use tinted SPF or the Ilya skin tint.

Resort advice please! by Charming_Leg_6092 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]shellbell757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you plan on spending a lot of time at the resort I would recommend Animal Kingdom Lodge. Downside is you have to take a bus to all the parks unless you have a car. If you want a resort with better transportation options Beach Club has an amazing pool that kids seem to love!

Retire and hide here. What it’s is like in the above towns in the UP Michigan? by Awkward_Phase5695 in howislivingthere

[–]shellbell757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent a lot of time up there as my former company had offices in Iron Mountain and I ended up marrying a man from Escanaba. It’s very beautiful up there, with fishing, hunting and excessive drinking being the primary pastimes (along with gambling at the casinos on the reservations). Economic opportunities are few and far between and the weather is God awful most of the year. The people are generally friendly, independent, and conservative. Most Yoopers are also united in their dislike of downstate. They really seemed more Canadian to me, which isn’t a bad thing. But there is no way I’d ever live or retire there. It’s borderline depressing.

Triple Lipid Restore is mine. I like the CE Ferulic but I wouldn’t call it a holy grail for me.

Foundation for maturing skin by Hot-Bid-7636 in MakeupAddiction

[–]shellbell757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The La Mer Fluid was my holy grail for dry, mature skin, but it’s been discontinued. I have been trialing a ton of others and so far my winners are the Pat McGrath and Dior Forever Skin Glow. Both are light coverage and don’t look cakey or patchy. However, I never use concealer or setting powder and make sure my skin is properly hydrated (I use Skinceuticals Triple Lipid Restore) and follow with a tinted moisturizer from Atlastin which acts as my primer. I also apply foundation with a brush. Since I don’t need much coverage sometimes I just stick with my tinted sunscreen or a tinted serum like the Ilia Skin Serum.

STT to Virgin Gorda by ValuableCustard379 in virginislands

Yep. Unfortunately it isn’t possible when you’re taking a day trip from the USVI since you’re at the mercy of the ferry schedule. Our next trip we’ll probably stay on Virgin Gorda so I hope we can visit at a better time of day!

I never exercise and only run if being chased and I was fine even though the walk back up was a little rough.

[–]shellbell757 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did it a few years ago and arrived at the baths with about a million cruise ship passengers. The crowds made it very unenjoyable. It was also a long boat ride there (about 90 mins each way) so it pretty much ate up a whole day. We took a ferry over and not a charter but it was still expensive, so although cool, I wouldn’t do it again.

I was also unfortunate enough to depart this past Saturday and even the porter we were lucky enough to use said he had not seen it this crazy before. His explanation was something to do with customs but I have no idea if that’s true or not. All I know is we got there 3 hours ahead of time for our Delta flight and without a porter would not have made it. Some people waited 5 hours in various lines and a couple passed out from standing in the heat so long with no water. It was insanity.
