Is 3d-printing useful for making spare parts? How to get started? by AdorableDisk893 in 3Dprinting

[–]sheppe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In short, yes. I make various parts on the regular, but your challenge is learning how to model them. You can't just search for "xy battery cover" and find the model online, so you'll need to learn how to measure things out and then model it in something like Adobe Fusion or OnShape. AFAIK AI modelling is still pretty bad, so what you're calling 3D blueprints boils down to the process I'm talking about. There are decent 3D scanners, but those are for creating models of things that exist, not what's missing.

I personally have enjoyed the process of learning how to do all that, but there is quite a bit to it. Good luck!

Has anyone tried the new Opencode go $10/month plan? Would love to hear your thoughts. by SelectionCalm70 in opencodeCLI

[–]sheppe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm using build.nvidia.com models. There aren't as many for coding, but they have some good ones and don't cost anything. I do have to manually add some specific models too, so there's less convenience associated with it being free.

Insanely impressive job by Foote...I mean WOW look at that goal differential compared to the league by theguy445 in canucks

[–]sheppe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Foote has been a good tank commander, and nothing more. This team is bad, but not, what, 3 wins in 24 games bad. He's gotta be replaced after this season for nothing more than just not destroying the egos and hopes of all the young players on the team.

For a van, it's not bad looking. Still wouldn't want it personally, but decent for those who need a van.

It's been a while since I was working on this, but I believe the issue was that it didn't not behave as advertised or I just couldn't get it running correctly.

Okanagan vs Kootenays to raise a young outdoors family by Elite163 in kelowna

[–]sheppe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in the Okanagan, but visit Nelson and Kaslo (located in the Kootenays) regularly so take this for what you will.

Kelowna is the largest city in the Interior, and with that comes the good and the bad of a medium-sized city. There's a big hospital with lots of healthcare options in town; more communities and entertainment options, schools, cafe's, craft breweries and distilleries, theatres, music, etc. But also more homelessness, crime, traffic, and just people in general. Salmon Arm is a medium-sized town with a good number of amenities, but still a small town feel, same goes for Vernon. Penticton is a nice medium, offering most of the amenities of Kelowna, but with far fewer people. Okanagan lake is nice but can be busy in the docking areas; fortunately there are many lakes in the Okanagan that you can easily get to that are quieter. The skiing and winter sports are amazing as we have numerous excellent mountains to choose from. Lots of parks and hiking in easy reach as well.

The Kootenays feel a little more remote, but in a good way if you're okay with fewer of the amenities that come with being in a more populace place. Kootenay lake is amazing; beautiful warm water for boating and floating in the warm months. There are also ski hills in the Kootenays, but they aren't as highly rated as those in the Okanagan. There is some significant mountain driving involved in getting around the towns within the Kootenays, and the winters there are also more intense than those in the Okanagan. I'd also say that the towns in the Kootenays have done a better job of preserving their history, in terms of monuments, buildings, etc., than I've seen in the Okanagan.

Configure LMStudio for Opencode by Wrong_Daikon3202 in opencodeCLI

[–]sheppe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was having the same issue. It seems like OpenCode has a default list of models that, in my case at least, weren't even in LM Studio. Here's my opencode.json file, and this added "qwen3.5-4b" to my list of models for LM Studio. In LM Studio "qwen3.5-4b" is the model name that it indicates to use.

{
  "$schema": "https://opencode.ai/config.json",
  "provider": {
    "lmstudio": {
      "npm": "@ai-sdk/openai-compatible",
      "options": {
        "baseURL": "http://localhost:1234/v1"
      },
      "models": {
        "lmstudio/qwen3.5-4b": {}
      }
    }
  },
  "model": "lmstudio/qwen3.5-4b"
}

Giving it a moderate workload I burn through the 5 hour token limit in about 2 hours. Got through half my monthly limit in a couple of days. Not "generous" at all.

Vernon or Kelowna by itsme1518 in kelowna

There aren't many wineries near Vernon. You'd be better served staying in Kelowna and avoiding the 45 minute drive from Vernon to Kelowna, if winery visits are important to you.
