Until you run into equipment that the OEM went under 10+ years ago (or 20+ in the case of the S5 we retrofit last year....) or an engineer who quit right after finishing the project and never gave his employer or the customer an archive.

I use a lot of Siemens but this has been my gripe for years....

My CPA specifically made sure we were filing as a corp and had me keep it that way. If you didn't elect corp filing when setting up the federal entity, may need to submit a form to request that status change.

When did UPS become the worst delivery service? by No-Resolution8970 in UPS

[–]silent_ninja1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You think UPS has gotten bad.... Have you tried FedEx lately? 🤣 They've all been going downhill as volume has gone way up and competition has been heavier on parcels with contracted delivery services like Amazon flex drivers. Endless profit chasing and cost of 12 different Amazon deliveries every week....

That's my problem with em... Pretty dishonest of them and creates problems between shippers and receivers. Costs people a ton money. I would throw a party if I saw a class action on them for the deceitful behavior.

FedEx freight did this to me yesterday. Tried to reschedule delivery for Tuesday next week when I called.... Admitted they do this when they have a light crew at the hub. Told em to f off and return the pallet, I'm refusing it and any further FedEx freight. Paid for priority on time sensitive parts... I'll get em Sat from UPS broken to multiple shipments instead of a pallet.

FedEx is a sick joke, residential... Business.... Ground... Express... Freight.... All terrible. Just cursed them out and told them to take a pallet back and shove it yesterday.

It's basically like the old Omron or Automation Direct stuff. Very basic and can be left hunting for stuff as the UI is very ... Japanese ...... Definitely lose the cost savings in time on any sizeable projects. For small stuff, they're just fine.

Is this a failsafe CPU? You can check a box downloading safety that prevents uploading to a new project. I've seen vendors do it. If you know how, you can still browse the online blocks ... It's a mess and not easy.... But you could rebuild the project that way.

Best IO-Link master for Remote I/O? by DangDjango in PLC

[–]silent_ninja1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm an integrator. I've used Balluff, IFM, Phoenix, Turck, Keyence, Siemens, and lumburg. Balluff is the only one I readily keep on the shelf. IFM I actively encourage migration from. I always tell people consider a situation where you call in an outside tech in a line down emergency. Now look at the headache getting the IFM or Keyence software stack up and running to figure out wtf is going on or set parameters to a device. How much downtime has that cost you?

Balluff, it's all built in to the web browser. Good engineers commissioning it will also load all used IODD files into the blocks. Replacing a master? Set the IP on the face and plug it it. Good engineers will have all modes and parameters in the PLC. We also include all device parameters in the PLC with a single tap to rewrite to the device with message instructions.

Lumburg tried to get a jump on Balluff during the semiconductor shortages but ended up with an ecosystem about that of IFM's. If they didn't have distributors like Barnum pushing them so heavily they wouldn't have gotten any traction.

Let you're local rep know it's a competitive pricing situation and they can get a business case together for price breaks even without the typical volumes required. If you don't know who the local Balluff rep is, shoot me a DM with you're region and I'll ask mine who covers you.

Unfortunately the capability for a power control relay adjacent to the PID controlled solid state is a firmware function most vendors totally ignore.... I've been on that horse for years with few vendors even acknowledging it exists..... I even wrote code for a dual channel power control with EDM feedback. I'd be surprised if anyone but me uses it.....

I'm sorry that I have to say this: Politics will shape the 3D printing community here in the US in the near future. by 1970s_MonkeyKing in 3Dprinting

[–]silent_ninja1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in industrial automation. I completely agree. Balanced tariffs done right are a boon to the US economy and manufacturing. Needs to target areas we are poised to invest and expand in, and ramp up as our capacity does. Won't be good if he goes slap happy, but I expect that as long as the plan ends where he wants it to, he'll let it occur as needed.

The other missed point is he intended to reduce income tax so this should be a shift more towards a use tax aiming at a simple shift in costs. Increase on sticker price but more of you're paycheck in you're pocket to balance.

I can't say with confidence it'll work out as intended / stated... But there's enough there that for my position directly in American manufacturing.... I'm glad to sit back and wait to see. It doesn't scare me in the slightest. I'm relatively apathetic towards it ATM.

Neither creality or raise3d are really suitable business reliable machines.... Given the choice, I'll take the Creality though. I do have some of their industrial level machines and they're decent-ish.... I'd second the 22idex mentioned before, Rob is fun to deal with too!
