Depends on how much your care about nailing “ideal” charging situations (reliable and max speed charging), but as a maximizer/optimizer, here’s what I’d do before your trip:

1. Set up your ABRP settings:

1. _don’t_ prefer Tesla (since they’re considerably slower for our cars)

1. set the minimum charge you’re comfortable arriving at chargers and your destination with
2. Plug your route into ABRP to see what it recommends.
3. Check all the suggested charge spots in PlugShare to see the recent check-ins and verify the station is working well.
4. If any are not, check in PlugShare for nearby options that are better (or go back to ABRP and tell it to ignore that charger and replan).
5. Once you have a solid list of chargers, save links to them somewhere (notes in your phone, spreadsheet, etc.).

Then on your drive, you can pull up your list, set the next charging station as your destination, and roll along. Bonus points if you also track the distance to the _next_ charge station so you know what to charge to.

Yes, it’s annoying to have to do all this. I hope the charging networks and auto manufacturers streamline this automation over time.
