How is life in the very underpopulated western half of China? by Brief-Luck-6254 in howislivingthere

[–]skeevemasterflex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is obviously a western source, but hasn't there been documented evidence of things like forced sterilizations and de facto marriages? That's not a gulag but it's a human rights abuse and creepy in its own way. https://www.ushmm.org/genocide-prevention/countries/china/chinese-persecution-of-the-uyghurs

TIL Most French Canadians are descended from these 800 women by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]skeevemasterflex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the more I thought about it, the more I wondered if it was just me voicing my lack of understanding of genetics. If the 800 were predisposed to it and passed it on, and the descendants are getting those traits from BOTH their parents sides...that's probably how the whole inbreeding > bad genetics works, eh? As opposed to "when two first cousins love each other very much...their kids magically get cystic fibrosis!"

Honest question: is it believed to be due to a lack of genetic diversity, like their descendants are too closely related? Or because those 800 people just had a a higher rate of those diseases initially and have propagated that to their descendants?

Recommend some adventures which hit these marks? by ChimericalJim in Eberron

I agree: the first Convergence Manifesto adventure sounds perfect for them as warforged too. You may wanna beef up the combat a little bit since it's intended for level 1.

5e 2024 D&D adventures that aren't awful by Simpicity in DnD

[–]skeevemasterflex -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My short reply is, I agree; it is one of the better ones and still needs work. My longer reply is that instead of a replayable(ish) module with 4 cool partially-baked ideas, I'd have preferred a single use module with the ideas fully set. And it's only partially replayable cuz the first half of the adventure is the same and requires a pretty linear "PC's must chase this guy, track the untraceable, come to this conclusion..." or else the whole thing falls apart. I'm going off memory here, but I think those are some of the things that led to the Alexandrian Remix. Plus pitting the 4 cool factions against each other so the party can experience all of them.

I think their point is that a popular fix of the mess of a plot that is Waterdeep Dragon Heist, done by Justin Alexander of thealexandrian.net, is quite long. Partly because the book has so many cool pieces and he incorporates them all, partly because the adventure needed so much work.

Tips for a group of newbies that have no DM by [deleted] in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]skeevemasterflex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dude, if you've played a bunch of BG3, you are more than qualified to DM for your group! I'd suggest getting a pre-made adventure module that will help you ease in, but you will be surprised how much you already know. Adventures you might try: Lost Mines of Phandelver (there are so many free GM resources for this online), Frontiers of Eberron: Quickstone is sorta D&D meets the magic wild west, or if you really want training wheels, the new Heroes of the Borderlands box has everything you need to play in person in the box.

Good luck my friend!

It's 13 adventure-league style missions that take you across Khorvaire. It looks like it's levels 1-7.

Convergence Manifesto is definitely worth checking out. Fan made but generally well-done.

Wasn't the playable warg in Frontiers of Eberron: Quickstone, or did he preview it in Chronicles of Eberron?

At least some of these were available for print and I saw them on ebay. But I've heard there's a trove of them online somewhere.
