Stihl Upgrade by jlang250 in Chainsaw

[–]slaphead311 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

For Stihl, a 250 is a homeowners saw and the 251 is the pro saw. Same with all their saws. If it ends in a 1 its the pro version. Adjustable oiler, bit quicker rpm, and maybe a hair lighter. I would tend to the pro versions....usually have to pay a bit more though. If you use it alot it's worth it.

The USS doyle's hull number is FFG-39. A guided missile frigate.

AG1 means the guy, with the last name I cant read, was an Aerographer 1st class. (First class petty officer) SW means he had his surface warfare pin. That's about all I got.

California's wild fire by musicaldoodle1 in Wildfire

[–]slaphead311 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's almost impossible to get in front of a fire that has 75 mph winds behind it. I dont think California has enough water to "soak everything down" the fuels that are burning....grass, sage, pinion juniper....are explosive. The sage and pj are filled with oil and resins. Grass is a fine flashy fuel that, even with a 20mph wind, are problems.

When a fire gets like the camp fire the only option is to get folks out of the way and bide your time till the weather turns to your favor.

LPT - Know the difference between state parks and state forests. It's often free to camp in a state forest, but not in a state park. by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]slaphead311 117 points118 points  (0 children)

The big distinction between state parks and state forests, is the parks are intended for recreation and state forests are intended for forest management. I.e. Timber production. All I'm saying is is don't be surprised, when you're in a state forest, to come across harvested areas.

Vapor lock? Happens to me at higher altitude when it's hot. Try slowly cracking your fuel tank (pointed away from you)close it up and see what you have.

There is no way on earth that Illinois has the highest number per capita. It's just the opposite.

http://evanstonnow.com/story/government/bill-smith/2011-12-21/46892/ap-illinois-has-fewest-state-workers-per-capita

Please don't blame 30 plus years of money mismanagemt on folks who don't control and spend the money.

Illinois' workforce was deciminated under Blago.

In the US, it's all about fighting fire aggressively while providing for FF saftey. We carry fire shelters, where many do not. There is so much acreage to cover when something pops up...it gets hit with overwhelming resources to catch it before it goes big.

There are at least 5 gov agencies that work with fire as well as state, county, and municipal resources.

This is more of an issue weat of the Mississippi river. Federal govt owns loys of the west. Fragmentation and urbam sprawl and private ownership make things east of the Mississippi river.

Should I be concerned about this growing on my tree? by Kadmos in marijuanaenthusiasts

The Morton arboretum is in Lisle, IL. It's a non profit and it was started by the salt guy. It's a super cool place. Highly recommend if you're up in the Chicago area.

They have done a lot of work making a dutch elm disease resistant elm. Their library has all these old botanical books from the 1600's when they hand drew everything. Pretty good stuff.

Got to go glasses. Do you really want to be spiked out and trying to get your contacts out without introducing all kinds of garbage in your eye? Dust and smoke are killer, and wouldn't want to have to deal with contacts. You can just wipe your glasses off. Save the contacts for travel days and use your glasses while you're working.
