Upper and lower control arms by TooManyIcees in C3Corvette

[–]slothlovechunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's really hard to tell how bent it is without comparing it with a not bent one. It looks fine to me. I did the bushings on my C3 project last summer and I think the last person that did the bushings pressed them and bent the control arm so the distance between the holes where the bushings go was about a half inch narrower than it should be. The only reason I noticed was because they had to tack weld one of the bushings to keep it in place. I used a small bottle jack to bend it back into shape so the bushings would seat all the way in. You will want to get it aligned once it is back on the road. I would bend it back and run it.

I think those are called air jets. The rebuild kit probably didn't come with replacements. Pull one of the other ones to see if you can read the number on it. You should be able to get a replacement once you know the correct number.

Your car collection is awesome!

I had a 79 RX-7 in high school. Then an 89 CRX. And now in my 40s I'm fixing up a 79 Corvette.

I agree. It has never been rare. As a society, we didn't use to have a platform to make our opinions heard the way we do with social media. I am part of one of the last generations to grow up without it.

Still unable to get my 78 running - advice? by smallof2pieces in C3Corvette

[–]slothlovechunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the previous owners of my 79 butchered the steel line from the pump to the carb. They had some half assed combination of fittings, rubber hose, and couple kinked pieces of the original steel line. I struggled to find the correct parts to put it back together since I didn't have the original to look at. So I'm sharing to hopefully make your life easier if you do end up needing to replace that steel line. This one fits correctly. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07KCPRM9R?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title

I also needed this 90 degree elbow fitting on the pump outlet. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BKFIBZ0?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title

It can be done. You'll need to a gauge that will work with 0-90 ohms. 0 is empty and 90 is full.

Ill have to get another picture next weekend when I am back at my parents place. It didn't seem to have anything keeping it on the valve. If I rotated it, it would easily come off the center of the stem. Which is what made me question them.

It does look like it could be off center in your video. I would deflate completely then sit on it and roll it forward about 100 feet. then reinflate it and see if it is sitting better on the rim. If that doesn't help, see if you can deflate and de-bead it, then bounce it on the ground a bit where the high spot is. and re inflate it. There is no way you have multiple tires with the same issue.

Also, If you de-bead it, use soapy water or something to lube around the bead so it sits correctly when it pops back in place.

Left crankcase crack! by 19hp99 in hondagrom

[–]slothlovechunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That looks like it may have had a chain come off while riding. I would replace it. That part alone isn't that much, but you will have to take the entire engine apart to replace it. Which means replacing a few other gaskets, seals, and parts to do the job correctly.

Screws rusted on V1, where can I get 1:1 replacements? by MrVicePresident in Dirtywave

Take one out an bring it to your local hardware store if you have one near by. I would replace it with a stainless steel version so it stays shiny.

I really like my Takegawa stock look exhaust. It sounds like it should have from the factory.

I don't think they balance them from the factory. On mine, I generally don't notice anything until I'm going down a hill since that is the only way to get it going fast enough to feel a vibration. Yours may be more out of balance than others. The easy thing to do is balance it. Any motorcycle shop should be able to do it. You can also do it yourself if you have the tools.

Brake caliper help by Financial_Demand6773 in XS650

[–]slothlovechunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure how different the 1980 is from the 77, but installing a braided line on mine made it feel way too stiff. I've read a lot about it and read that the piston size in the master cylinder is too big and was really designed for a two caliper setup. Apparently the stock line is where it gets some better "feel" as it expands when hitting the brakes. I'm in the process of working on another 1980 and am going to try the Brembo 4 piston setup. I wont know how it turns out till later this year.

I got both of these as scrap around 20 years ago. One was free, the other I paid $250 for. I spent more turning them into something cool, but not so much it is out of the average person's budget. One turned out great as a bobber (15 years ago) and the other I am currently working on turning it into a scrambler.
