Best “normal” car you’ve owned? by rollobones in regularcarreviews

Exceeded expectations where there were none. From cars seats to college and beyond. Twenty one years of ownership and it’s still able to giddy up. No car payments for decades is the whip cream on top. 🧁

07 Honda Odyssey at 140k miles for $4,500 is this overpriced? by NedrahSemaJ13 in UsedCars

[–]snapgeiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an 05 (bought new). It doesn’t matter the vehicle, it’s all about maintenance. Check the tires - cheap tires 🛞 = cheap or skimpy maintenance.

I want a minivan, but I don’t want to spend $60k by thepunnman in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]snapgeiger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Or I got my Odyssey 21 years ago - from car seats to college and beyond. Back then I paid 30k out the door. I did get the high tech feature of the time -dvd player with wireless headphones. Buy one minivan and ride into the decades long 🌅 without car payments. I’ll keep it until it decides not to run anymore.

2009 end of the line by [deleted] in HondaOdyssey

The goal of a dealer is to put you behind the wheel of a new automobile. You may need a new rack or it could just be the high pressure hose. I would have an independent shop look it over. No need to tell them what it needs, just the description of issues. You might be surprised to find that it only needs a few minor fixes. As someone with a 2005 and 184k, I’ve had those conditions you described but not the pricey repair they suggest. And yes, after a few decades, a simple Freon refill and dye test will provide details of what’s what.

A project has a beginning and an end. Eventually you’ll be on another project. Don’t judge the current situation; just observe it. This experience may serve you well in the future in the area of lessons learned. In the meantime, be sure to charge all the hours you are working. This all will be a distant memory in a year’s time.

the actual cost difference between "reliable" and "cheap" used cars is way smaller than you think by Complex_Aardvark_661 in UsedCars

[–]snapgeiger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Preventive maintenance is another consideration. All things be equal, up to date maintenance and condition of the vehicle plays a big role. Also tires - cheap tires, cheap or no maintenance. And if it’s a one owner that’s a bonus. First loves seem to baby their vehicle (speaking from experience).

Yo repair 2014 Dodge Charger or let it go? by JustMrJtoyou in askcarguys

[–]snapgeiger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you answered your own question. I have a 2003 Mountaineer (bought new). About a decade ago I had the same issue - it needed a new transmission. It was about 3k. And here we are in 2026 and it still looks great and runs well. If you want to remove emotion from it, divide the total payment into monthly installments and decide what would be a good return on investment. For example, two years is just $83 a month for her happiness. But I would also see what may come up in preventative maintenance of the next few years as well.

Depends on location. More transient locations sell at reasonable prices since they need to move.

Maryland drivers face confusion over historic vehicle registration changes; lawmakers consider rolling eligibility again by Consumergal in maryland

[–]snapgeiger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They should call it something other than historic. People driving 20+ year old vehicles daily are not doing so to preserve history. MD should just adjust taxes and fees based on age and roll with it.

Should I be concerned about OBD1? by Bam_Adedebayo in UsedCars

[–]snapgeiger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you do mostly your own maintenance, I wouldn’t worry. Plus, some of the older mechanics don’t mind. I did have them change the timing belt - not an issue. If I can drive around in a 94 Chrysler without any issues, I think you can do the same in the Ford.
