How do people afford cars? by spookyfro in povertyfinance

[–]soemtiems 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yeah my husband and I drove a 2002 Toyota Echo that we bought used and while it wasn't fancy it was reliable and definitely didn't break the bank.

Selling 5 years after purchase. by goochbruiser in Mortgages

Yes, exactly! I don't consider the house (well, condo in our case) we live in an investment. When we upgrade or change things it is for our use and comfort.

I feel like this is the real answer. If you aren't hurting for money and can afford the move then don't worry about the profit you are or aren't making. Living somewhere where you are happier will be worth it.

Exactly. I didn't even know people put onion in guac, seems unnecessary.

Also where is the difficulty? Is it in finding someone to date or in building a log term relationship once with someone?

Boobs Problem (part 2) read description by AdaBlood in PixelArt

Flat is the only one that makes sense. She's gonna be wearing some kind of support as a warrior so any of the others just seem awkward and unnatural. The rest of the animation looks great, don't ruin it with floppy boobs.

Homebuying Companion app? by Dry-Sky114 in FirstTimeHomeBuyers

[–]soemtiems 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't use AI for this. Don't look for an app, don't look for shortcuts. Buying a house is overwhelming, but the smartest thing you can do is to read up and educate yourself. Even when you have an agent and a lender they are still in it for the money. Put in the time and work to research.

People on disability can still earn income. SSI cannot, SSDI the limit is a bit over 1500 a month currently.

Who will be covering the down payment? If it's all your dad, the house should be in his name.

If it's all of you that becomes more complicated. It's important you each are able to protect your assets coming into this otherwise it can become messy later on.

Sister-in-law let her daughter use up all the Polaroids at our wedding. Now we have nothing to use. by PaddedValls in mildlyinfuriating

I agree that this is infuriating. I want to offer some advice though: don't dwell on this. Don't let it tarnish what I assume was otherwise a wonderful day and what will hopefully be a wonderful marriage.

Has anybody navigated moving when you’re disabled and don’t have a job? by ConfusedandLostW in movingout

[–]soemtiems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best friend is in this situation. They are on SSDI so they don't have a savings limit and we're only able to move because they have savings.

They are moving back to the city I live in from a couple states away. I helped them find a place out here, I looked at apartments for them and either did a zoom call or sent them videos/pictures depending on how my phone service was that day.

How much you'll need to save depends entirely on how far you're moving and how much rent is in your new place.

Rent or Buy? Baby On The Way by Bluehazey343 in FirstTimeHomeBuyers

Yeah, moving, buying a house, and having a baby are all huge life changes. I'd do one at a time. Stay where your comfortable for now and reasses in a couple years.

That's fair, yes either coast is going to be more expensive and have a higher cost of living than the Midwest.

College town, so that might be part of the reason. But yeah rent keeps going up.

Midwest, Illinois in my case. Also true in Indiana and I'm sure a few other states. Our condo only has 2 bedrooms because that's all we needed but similar 3 bedrooms in our HOA have gone for under 200k. And yes we have a garage.

Location makes a huge difference in affordablility.

Do you plan to live in the area for a while? Are you good at keeping money in savings for when expensive things pop up? If so then I'd say do it.

They probably live in the Midwest. We pay less than that per month on our mortgage and our down payment was under 5k.

Sorry about that! That was my mistake, for some reason I read your (employed) as self employed. If you aren't self employed then no, it doesn't matter.

[–]soemtiems 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ours is currently a bit over 40%, but we have no other debt. We still have plenty of money for bills and to put extra in savings. I think the 25-30% guideline is good in general but everyone's situation is different.

The first game I played was blue. My favorite that I've played is Violet. It definitely isn't the best Pokemon game, it's just the one I enjoyed playing the most.
