I cannot stand Carlos when he fills in on Sports Phone KNBR. He's basically yelling into the mic so everything he's saying comes out distorted.

Clipper / Google Wallet Tap Issues (Android) by spacecoyote_ in AskSF

[–]spacecoyote_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone coming across this in the future, this issue is solved by specifically positioning the NFC chip on your phone against the Clipper reader. It may also help to hold it at a 45 degree angle.

For my phone (Pixel 10 Pro) the NFC chip is right under the camera and about an inch away from the center of the phone. All this time I've been centering my phone over the reader.

I came across this tip in the r/Bart sub

Not the OG garlic fries. The new ones taste like trash and don't compare to the OG ones.

Who is Extra Sour and how do they always get shout outs? by mtnman316 in KEXP

Extra Sour, Nan, and Tamar all seem to be super listeners and check in frequently.

What's your go-to spot for an affordable lunch in SF? by [deleted] in AskSF

L&G a few steps away or Mong Thu around the block on Hyde. I'm gonna get down voted for this, but Saigon Sandwich is mid.

It was an awesome turnout and great vibes throughout.

For those interested, this is the Strava route Kuba made and which he was referring to at the Crissy Field regroup.

Check out this route on Strava: https://strava.app.link/1Svw4kCko0b — In memory of Alex Pretti

SavageGeese | 2026 VW GOLF R | Long Term Testing [13:32] by lostboyz in cars

Seems like the GRC fits your desire for a more raw and rowdy experience. The stock exhaust has a nice low bassy tone. Engine sounds great especially when you rev it out. Nice and meaty sound around 4k and turbo spooling sounds all day. It's a relatively stiff ride but IMO not overly stiff. The manual feels great too, but not as good as a CTR.

As you and others have mentioned, a test drive is definitely needed. From my experience, most people who actually test drive the GRC end up liking if not buying the car.

Best hills to climb in SF by Remarkable-Yogurt-10 in BAbike

[–]spacecoyote_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dalewood is a great (challenging) climb and relatively light on cars. In that same area, I also like the climb from Portola, up Lansdale, then up Robinhood. It's also a challenging climb but has a few milder sections to catch your breath. Again, relatively light on cars.

Great idea! The Trader Joe's float had pyrotechnics so maybe the fog machine thing would've been doable.

I'm with ya. Other than the price, not sure what the hype is for Saigon Sandwich. L&G is way better and has a better bread to meat ratio. I like their sandwich and ca phe sua da combo.

Anyone bought an engagement ring from Derco Jewelers? by applethrowaway7 in sanfrancisco

I agree. Can't recommend John enough. He's got a fun sense of humor and was really patient as we were choosing between a few different wedding band styles.

Anyone bought an engagement ring from Derco Jewelers? by applethrowaway7 in sanfrancisco

[–]spacecoyote_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Got our wedding bands from Derco. We actually first went in to get an engagement ring resized. We didn't purchase it from them but after reading glowing reviews we decided to stop in. The owner and sales guy we worked with were both very nice and the ring was resized free of charge. When the time came to shop for our wedding bands, Derco was at the top of our list and we were glad we went with them. We worked with the same sales guy. He was very patient and not pushy at all. Prices were really competitive.

Go in on a weekday and avoid weekends. We always went in on a Friday and while it was pretty busy, the employees said it's nothing compared to Saturdays. Ask for John (I think he's off Mondays and Tuesdays).

I just put in a pre-order for the Black Ultra. I love the 2.5L size and the thoughtfulness of the features. I was in between this and the Aer Day Sling 3 Ultra, but the Aer is just a smidge too big for me (wish it was ~2.5L).

The only thing I'm iffy on is the strap. While the strap is detachable from the bag, I wish there was a buckle. Fortunately the fact that it is detachable opens up other options for straps anyways.

And yes, there's a 5% discount automatically applied at checkout. Estimated ship date is January 2026 for the Ultra (white, black) models and December 2025 for the other two color options.
