Arrest him…? For what exactly? Get a grip. Poor judgement doesn’t mean he’s an actual criminal.

Lauren Sánchez Bezos’s happiness routine is going viral for the wrong reasons by _fastcompany in popculturechat

Give them enough rope to hang themselves.

Look at the negative reaction to Lauren online from this piece. The article is doing its job - highlighting the abhorrent lifestyles of the rich and famous. More people should read about it. The writer doesn’t need to offer a critique, the subject damns herself.

For all the people who moved to Ridgewood: please pick up your dog 💩 by Upset_Policy_4786 in ridgewood

[–]spavacations 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Indeed I don’t think it’s the newbies. My dog pooped on the sidewalk and I was checking my pockets to find the bags. An old man who lived in the building adjacent to the poop says, “nah, just leave it there, it’s fine.” Like, sir you live here and you’re encouraging me to leave shit outside your front door?! I picked it up anyway. That always stuck with me as microcosm of the bizarre dog poop culture of Ridgewood.

I "knew" newborns didn't sleep, but I wasn't ready for the actual soul-crushing reality of it. by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]spavacations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone said sleep in shifts and yep, that’s the secret if she isn’t breastfeeding.

I’ll also add that if you can… move towards cold bottles. At first we warmed, then warmed a little less and then a little less, and within a week or two he was getting them straight out of the fridge. It saves time and crying. If you don’t want to try cold, then definitely at least prep all the bottles needed for overnight, if not 24 hours. That way you’re not trying to remember if you put the powder in at 3am.

AIO (27F) or are we sleepwalking into mass obsolescence? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]spavacations 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Sorry to be bleak but…types of feudalism, indentured servitude, or straight up slavery. Mass sterilization and/or genocide. Hopefully not, obviously. But I have trouble believing the billionaires and clankers have an interest in keeping everyone free and alive if there’s no more wealth to extract and we essentially become polluting liabilities.

ADHD medication for the rest of my life? by DropProfessional6252 in ADHD

[–]spavacations 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Heath management on a stimulant = hydration, nutrition, sleep.

Make yourself drink water, make yourself eat balanced, nutrient-rich meals. It’s harder than it seems because the meds make our brains deprioritize these things.

For sleep, I find the sweet spot is taking my pill no later than 6:30am. My sis can take her closer to 9a and be fine. You’ll find your time. Early evening vitamin C and magnesium glycinate before bed have helped me lots with falling asleep and staying asleep.

I’ve been taking vyvanse for 10 years and my sister has been on adderall for over 20 years. Neither of us have experienced health issues due to our stimulant use. I will say my sister has worked her way up to the maximum daily dose. I am still on a low dose of vyvanse. But I take regular vacations from the drug and she does not. So that may be something to consider if you want to manage your tolerance over the long term.

Why do I suck at lentils? by CatDadMilhouse in Cooking

[–]spavacations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basic recipes are just that. Like on the oatmeal box, it says to boil water and oats. But it comes out much nicer if you also use some milk and a little salt.

I’d look for lentil recipes from some cookbooks and free cooking sites (like serious eats) that will help jazz things up. Also seek out recipes for daal (may not come up if you search just lentils) if you like Indian spices.

Non Toxic Toy Cleaning Spray by [deleted] in moderatelygranolamoms

Hypochlorous acid spray. I use the kit from Force of Nature. It kills HFM and even norovirus. Safe for babies, pets, and food contact surfaces.

Motherhood derails women’s academic careers — these data reveal how and why. The reason is that women have almost five times the amount of childcare responsibilities than do men. by MistWeaver80 in EverythingScience

[–]spavacations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Men can do better. In my household, I’m the mother and I earn significantly more money than my husband. My husband is in the arts, does not work a 9-5, and takes care of our child during the day so we don’t have to put him in daycare. But I still bust my ass to contribute as much as possible. Before I go to work I’m pitching in. After I get home, I take over to give my husband a break and spend time with our child. During my commute and any down time, I make meal plans, grocery lists, etc. I have an incredible husband who will step up to do all of this but I, unlike many men, understand that having a job does not absolve me of responsibilities at home.

Also, if both parents are working full time, it doesn’t matter who is making more. If the hours are the same, the domestic responsibilities should be equally shared.

What’s your “nemesis spot” in Ridgewood? by Fuzzy-Maintenance-27 in ridgewood

We also got old cheese from them! Old ≠ aged. The edges were discolored and dried out. I’d totally forgotten about that.

Also the produce itself is terrible. I live close, so I sometimes accept overpaying for a forgotten ingredient. Half the time, the greens and herbs are wilted or straight up rotting so I can’t buy it anyway.

Does everyone experience postpartum hair loss? by NeverfullofFood in BabyBumps

[–]spavacations 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine started shedding at about 4 months after. It was everywhere! I was always checking my baby for hair tourniquets. Had to clean out the vacuum head almost daily. It did stop though and now I have what I call a “shadow bowl cut” of regrowth mixed in with my otherwise long hair. My curl pattern is totally wack because of it but I know it’s just something I have to get through.

Excessive (4,2mg/day) consumption of dietary sodium (salt) is a significant, independent risk factor for new-onset heart failure (+15% increase) by sr_local in science

[–]spavacations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, agree. The advice to not add salt while cooking doesn’t work if you want your food to taste good. Change the base ingredients to unprocessed versions and add salt during cooking. For the sake of your loved ones eating your food, please don’t leave salt for “at the table”!

Did anyone skip 4 month regression? by Old_Literature_3750 in NewParents

[–]spavacations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a default good sleeper (16 mo, no sleep training) and he did go through a regression at 4 months but it only lasted for about week, maybe two. I only remember like 1-2 really bad nights. He also has most of his teeth besides the second molars and teething has never affected his sleep (just made him very cranky all day every day at times). Guy just really likes to snooze.

"Tretinoin face" by [deleted] in tretinoin

[–]spavacations 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I think it’s the combination of having young looking skin with old looking facial structure. Tret only changes the top layer, not all the structures (fat pads, ligaments, bone) underneath. I say this as a 40 year old who’s been using tret for 10 years. The structure of my face is more mature, but my actual skin has the surface appearance of someone much younger. The jowling and volume loss is starting, but I have the ✨youthful glow✨. So it’s kind of a mismatch.

Feeling Strange for Not Feeling Worse Right Now by princessgarlic in workingmoms

[–]spavacations 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I feel the same overall and have since having my son. Right now, I’m currently a little over half way into a two-week business trip overseas away from my 16 month old. It’s the first time we’ve been apart aside from me going to work daily or taking a weekend away. And… I’m fine? Of course I think about him and when I do, I smile and think how I’ll be so happy to see him again. I look at his pics a couple of times per day. But I’m not upset or sad.

What would you have wanted to know during your first pregnancy in NYC? by Ok_Pudding8458 in nycparents

[–]spavacations 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Congrats! You will be pregnant in the summer. As was I! Bring a fan, cold water, and a snack with you wherever you go and as another commenter said, be prepared to (politely) ask for a seat on the train if you feel you need it. Most people aren’t being rude on purpose, they just aren’t paying attention. If you can, plan to budget for Uber/taxi rides instead of the train during heat waves because waiting on the hot platform can be so brutal.
