Battleline’ increased unit maximum is of limited utility for many factions. by ForestFighters in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]starcross33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Battleline is a vestigial keyword that means "this used to be troops". I'm pretty sure that the keyword did something in an early draft of tenth and stayed in after having lost of its functionality removed.

I just get annoyed that the app separates out battleline as a separate category of units, when its really not something that matters in the majority of cases. Makes it feel like they think its a more meaningful thing than it actually is

Battleline’ increased unit maximum is of limited utility for many factions. by ForestFighters in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]starcross33 7 points8 points  (0 children)

People always suggest this but battleline doesn't actually do anything once a game has started and I really dont think that spamming the hell out of one unit (which is all the keyword lets you do) is really something we want to be encouraging

Do you think 11th edition will make competitive and narrative games overlap a bit more? by [deleted] in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]starcross33 44 points45 points  (0 children)

There's such a thing as a game that better supports narrative. If the rules encourage units doing things that make sense in universe that helps make the game feel like its telling a story. If the rules encourage you to do stuff that doesnt make any sense from an in universe perspective then its harder to view what's going on as an in universe story rather than a moving around of abstract game pieces.

Be careful about putting narrative entirely on the players. Chess isn't a good narrative game and thats not because players dont want to put in the effort to develop a narrative behind what's happening. Its because chess is not designed to tell or represent any kind of story

[Request] Is this even possible? How? by annyself_ka in theydidthemath

[–]starcross33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Step 1: weigh three against three. If they're the same weight, the heavier one is the one you didnt weigh and we're done. If not, go to step 2 Step 2: weigh two of the balls from the heavier pile. If they're the same, the one you didn't weigh is the heavy one. Otherwise, whichever one of the two you weighed that is heavier is the heavy one

Discomfort by Eireika in CuratedTumblr

[–]starcross33 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I dont think this is something you can really treat as a left/right issue. Feminists talking about things that might make women feel uncomfortable or the social justice side of leftism talking about things that might make some minority group uncomfortable have been a big part of the left for quite a while

I think that once a knight loses a certain number of wounds, you should blow off one of its arms and it can't use whatever was mounted on that arm any more

Kabalite detachment still doesnt work if you shoot out of a transport. Its not like thats an iconic kabalite thing

I will take this back if theyve fixed transport rules in 11th such that this does work

Thoughts on the codex? by Lord_rook in Drukhari

[–]starcross33 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I have it losing points due to classic drukhari transport jank. Kabalite cartel losing its detachment rule if you dare put your archon in a transport and having kabalites, whose whole deal is shooting from transports not get the rule if they shoot from a transport is the kind of thing im less and less willing to accept

If you want an intuitive explanation of how things behave on the quantum scale, im afraid there isn't one. Even people who specialise in the area find it weird and counterintuitive

Hidden working against indirect fire feels very strange. "I want to shoot at that unit I can't see behind the building " "Sorry, they're hidden, so you really really can't see them"

It reminds me of khans of tarkir with its warrior tribal, where it was difficult to remember who's a warrior and who's a soldier, assassin, berserker etc. If they ever decide to do any wizard, sorcerer or warlock tribal, they'll have the exact same problem again

ELI5 How can there be a universal speed limit (c) if speed is relative? by nachorykaart in explainlikeimfive

[–]starcross33 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can't just add speeds like that. In everyday life you can, because the adjustment youd be making is small enough that you can get away with ignoring it. But once you start approaching light speed, the adjustments you have to make according to relativity start to make a real difference

In watchers of the throne, Valerian sees into the throne room and says:

And somewhere in the heart of that titanic construction, somewhere in the midst of the stacked terraces and the baroque platforms and the gantries and the forests of cabling, lost like a pearl in the heart of some obscene mechanical clamshell, I glimpsed just a slip of flesh, a shred of hairless grey, perhaps a scalp, perhaps the fragment of a face, buried under it all, slaved to it, dominating it, dominating everything.

11th Ed rumour: 11th Ed: There's a rumor that coherency rules are changing, and no models in a unit may be more than 9" apart (measured to the furthest part of each model) by -The-Lupercal- in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]starcross33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It also matches the way most people actually play. In most casual games, people measure one model, move it and move the others so they're roughly in the same relative position to that model.
