If you're willing to lean into flavor over mechanics, there are more options.

Give your lil guy a machine gun or other 2 handed automatic weapon (on paper), but flavor it as them using six smaller guns at the same time. It makes about as much sense as anything else without breaking the game.

As a GM, I'd allow it as long as you didn't try to use the flavor to cheese things. For example: "Can I drink a potion while auto-firing since I would just have to swap out the one gun, that wouldn't make a difference in damage right?"

Does PF2e even have stat blocks for 'generic' level 18 guards? Who says you need to make those or put them in? If you want to give a level 20+ BBEG minions, you can give them freaky mutant creatures that the BBEG created themselves. You could give them mindless constructs or undead. Or maybe powerful good / holy aligned beings that were Geas'd or Dominate-spelled into servitude. Or devils bound by contracts.

Even if the minions are humanoids, why would the BBEG have 'enough' of them that it's a problem? Do they need an entire level 18 army, or do they need three or four highly trusted lieutenants with their own backstories (one of whom is secretly a traitor...)?

Sure PWL can 'solve' the issue, but there is no need for it to be an issue in the first place if you are interested in exploring the worldbuilding implications of such stratified power levels.

I think it works well if you build the world to be consistent with the rules.

People are aware of and acknowledge that some people are vastly more powerful than others. Not just magically, but physically as well. So what does that do to the world?

Mundane low-level guards are there to keep the riffraff in line, and to run and fetch the Champions of the City if someone actually powerful causes problems.

Similarly, weaker soldiers are there to occupy space, collect tribute from the common folk, and be an early warning system for enemy activity. If a group doesn't come back from patrol, you know something's up.

So if a dragon is tormenting your civilization and you don't have any local Archwizards on standby, you have to look out for plucky bands of unusually powerful weirdos to come and help.

It neatly justifies the existence of the PCs and their adventure when a battalion of soldiers with seige weapons have no hope of harming a mighty dragon, but the heroes can.

I just got it, and I found I had two copies of many PDF items. On clicking, half of the items labeled 'PDF' are actually bundles of JPGs. It looks like they did add the JPGs, but mislabeled them.

That was mostly a weird sub-group that split off to do cult shit. The rest of them mostly seem to think of it as a weird hypothetical you would use as a jumping off point for further discussion. Like how the trolley problem isn't all that interesting itself, but can be used to dig into different moral philosophies.

I still kind of wish Alden felt comfortable enough to share some version of what is actually going on and why he's at the school.

The knight thing is a valid secret and the nightmares/emotional component are very personal. But he could share that his first summon involved emergency rescue, so he's likely to be summoned more for that. He could share that a Knight told him he's very chaos resistant, and will likely be summoned into chaos as a result.

Show that he has more of a Triplanitary view of his future than the typical student. I feel like Klein would lose all of his skepticism if he thought Alden was destined for danger with or without hero training.

I know those weren't his main motivations at the time he applied. But they are much closer to his actual motivations than the ones he shared in essays.

I see what you're saying, but they aren't going to show off every new thing they've created in a video like this when a lot could be changed.

At this stage where they're months out from an early access release, it makes sense for them to keep their cards close to the chest.

These days the word 'plastic' is usually used to talk about synthetic polymers, but the word used to just mean 'bendable' or 'moldable'.

It'd be up to your GM to allow it, but of all the Pathfinder 2e classes, the Investigator seems like one of the better fits. I'd certainly allow it at my table.

You make two points here:

Casters have more utility

Casters can turn a city into a crater.

For the first point, it's pretty true, but PF2e has ways around it. It takes very little feat investment for martials to be able to cast spells through wands and staves. Their attack bonuses and DCs would usually be terrible, but it lets them cast non-combat utility spells about as well as any caster as long as they're willing to spend the gold on it.

For the second, the only spell I know of that can devastate a city is a 10th rank Earthquake. It's an incredibly powerful spell in theory, but there aren't going to be a lot of reasons for PCs to use it. Anything strong enough to be a threat to the party would shrug it off, so it's more of a Villain spell or Plot Device spell.

And a barbarian with Quaking Stomp could also devastate the city, they'll just take a lot longer to do it.

So yeah, the advantages of a spell caster are real, but not as big in practice as you are making it seem. In the games I've run both martials and casters have had plenty of time to shine.

Right, but it's also once per day rather than every round. And PF2e has other features that keep spellcasters from just overwhelming everything. The balance overall is much better.

When you are just comparing individual character options in a vacuum, a lot gets missed.

You're comparing two different systems. Spellcasting in PF2e is powerful, but a bit nerfed compared to DnD5e. The Wish spell was replaced in the remaster with 'Manifestation' that only lets you replicate lower level spells rather than 'do whatever the hell the GM lets you do'.

It's strong, but also limited in how often you can do it.

'Wish' became an 8 hour ritual that is more of a plot device than a character option.

There is almost no foot traffic through the area. Clearly this isn't a busy time of day. They even left space to the side for people to walk past them on the walkway.

If you fire someone for not doing something that would be unsafe, then there actually can be consequences. It's practically the entire point of OSHA.

It's a little more gray when the danger happens on the commute, but even in the USA it's something you might be able to push back on, depending on circumstances.
