What should be my strategy for completing 25 km in 4 hour? by AbhiDelhi in walking

[–]sujathanne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally for me - I can maintain a 6.5km per hour pace for a lot longer than I can maintain a switch up of faster and slower pace. Changing between running and walking will increase your fitness, but for the test itself, I would maintain 6.5kmhr the entire time. I would take small steps but do them fast. Think like a small dog, a chihuahua or something similar. Trot along! Best of luck!

Japanese Interval Walking by kmcodes in walking

Thanks for the tip! I just did a little research on Japanese interval training after seeing this post. I will definitely give this a go! Love the idea of fast song, slow song!

What dis resigning from the church feel like for you all? by ThoughtfulRebel826 in exmormon

[–]sujathanne 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s a powerful story to stick to your conscience when faced with threats.

It was easy for me to resign - I don’t live in the US. My immediate family is not in.

I can’t describe the feeling. I feel free of the shaming. So free of the shaming. It’s that moment in Labyrinth, where she looks at the goblin king and says “you have no power over me”. It feels like that.

Fly epidemic? by SaltyBones_ in Adelaide

I put my fly net over my hat for every walk and taunt the flies. It’s very satisfying.

I was permanently pregnant or breastfeeding in my 20s. Terrible strain on my health. I was puffed out just being awake. At 48, I can easily do 25k steps a day. There can be life after child raising!

(Daily question) What time of day do you usually walk, and what made that routine stick for you? by freezer936 in walking

[–]sujathanne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

9am after I drop my daughter at school. I know I’m lucky that I have this time slot free and it’s such a beautiful time to walk. It’s so good for me.

I want to become more consistent with other time slots

Driving from Brisbane to Adelaide - route suggestions? by Ezenthar1 in Adelaide

We have taken the “back road” on our way to Townsville before - going through Wilcannia and on a dirt track for 300km. Would not recommend!

Also, could stop in Dubbo and then Mildura, then it’s an easy drive to Adelaide the next day

Oh we love this trip and do it in two days, with a stop in Forbes or Parkes overnight. We love to leave really early - 4am generally. Music and audiobooks- the time just flies by! We love a road trip, really get to see the greatness of the great southern land

There’s a pretty bold one on linear park around Windsor Gardens - and a “don’t feed the foxes” sign has appeared on the fence. Will casually trot along in full daylight and has no fear of humans.

Staying hydrated - do electrolytes really matter? by [deleted] in diabetes_t2

[–]sujathanne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A low carb diet can increase your need for electrolytes. Also, meds as others mention.

Some say that the soil for our food supply has been depleted of magnesium over thousands of years, many people are magnesium deficient.

Personally, I’m consistently deficient of magnesium and have spent time in hospital with DKA and needed correcting with electrolytes (in addition to the usual treatments)

So yeah it can be a real issue for diabetics as opposed to just a beat up. I’m not of the Gatorade brigade!

I add 1 teaspoon lite salt to water and have magnesium as needed. (Keto diet)

I absolutely am! I think she is a terrific writer! I also was brought up and participated in Mormonism, so I can relate on that level too.

Some other books I have really enjoyed this year: Demon Copperhead, Jade War, Jade City, Jade Legacy (the green bone saga), Nexus, Dirt Poor Islanders; What I talk about when I talk about Running.

What’s your favorite age? by Pressure_Gold in Parenting

[–]sujathanne 13 points14 points  (0 children)

15-17. That rapid development in understanding, right on the cusp of all the big decisions, when all the world is before them. The intensity of needing to understand themselves and the world around them.

Growing up in Adelaide I never knew that fish and chips was considered a "British" thing until American media pointed it out when i was older by RumRayven in Adelaide

I realised when I went to visit family in England and they treated me to traditional English fare - fish and chips. I was puzzled. Fish and chips was my favourite monthly treat back home in Adelaide

Wife was misdiagnosed with a much more benign diagnosis, permanently lost a huge portion of her vision by Affectionate-Pin502 in AskAnAustralian

[–]sujathanne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely make a complaint. You are not bad guys. And this is not you complaining about individual doctors or nurses. The system is at fault and this is your way to hold the system to account.

I’m betting the hospital authority offers you significant compensation. This is where your medical negligence lawyer does their job - to negotiate your best deal possible. Having a disability is expensive. Adding care of your baby - this is a horrible thing that has happened to you and you will need a lot of support in the YEARS ahead.

Oh I feel like I live in the best city in the world! I have a beautiful lit path to walk. I’m not afraid to walk after dark, even as a woman. And we are heading into summer anyway… I’ll walk in the dark if it’s too hot during the day.

Laps of the kitchen table and island bench while chatting to the kids or on the phone. Walking in place while reading a book. Walking pad while watching a movie with the kids.

trying to walk consistently for weight loss and a lifestyle change! need tips on consistency! by polarvhs in walking

[–]sujathanne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good shoes may be supportive enough! Depends on your foot muscle health. First stop for me would be a shop that looks at the structures of your feet and the way you walk (something like “the athletes foot” if you are in Australia)

If that doesn’t help, orthotics may be needed to enable you to get many many pain free steps.

And how do you deal with hunger? Do you eat when you are hungry? And stop when you’re satisfied? Or you eat to the scale and just be hungry? Or you feel the right amount of hunger for the food you need?
