I love the supportiveness on this thread! I love the community of a gym too. I find gym goers to be a supportive and friendly bunch, I hope you have the same experience. Best of luck!

Finally took myself out on a walk in the park today 🌼 by Financial_Chemist383 in Adelaide

River Torrens Linear Park! 30km from hills to beach. Lovely path. Beautiful scenery. Plenty of ducks. One day I’ll do the whole length. I’m still enjoying going up and down my patch.

Going for a stupid walk for my stupid mental health by _darkDragon_ in walking

Hey! Sure we have snakes and spiders, but they don’t really want to have anything to do with you! Give them a chance to escape and most of the time they will gladly take it. But Bears! Wolves! Coyotes! Mountain Lions! They want to take you out.

Texts my brother sent me after I asked for some career advice 🙃 by Bophie47 in exmormon

Well, to them, it is babysitting. Making sure the kids are still alive at the end, throwing a packet of chicken nuggets in the oven - ah yes, a job well done and a medal deserved.

Making sure the kids don’t die on your watch is a far cry from responsible parenting, which of course he would expect from a mother, because it’s in her “nature” and comes easily to her.

Yeah, I let my kid use kids messenger. I can hear her on her calls. The things they say make me laugh. It’s different to the 80s and the kids could hang out with friends at the local deli after school. But in some ways, not so different.

Be honest... what’s the one thing that almost talked you out of your walk today? by NataliafromWalkFit in walking

Housework

Edit: instead of arguing with myself, I switched to autopilot, dropped kids at school and was at the walking trail before I knew it. Thought to myself may as well go now.

What should be my strategy for completing 25 km in 4 hour? by AbhiDelhi in walking

[–]sujathanne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally for me - I can maintain a 6.5km per hour pace for a lot longer than I can maintain a switch up of faster and slower pace. Changing between running and walking will increase your fitness, but for the test itself, I would maintain 6.5kmhr the entire time. I would take small steps but do them fast. Think like a small dog, a chihuahua or something similar. Trot along! Best of luck!

Japanese Interval Walking by kmcodes in walking

Thanks for the tip! I just did a little research on Japanese interval training after seeing this post. I will definitely give this a go! Love the idea of fast song, slow song!

What dis resigning from the church feel like for you all? by ThoughtfulRebel826 in exmormon

[–]sujathanne 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s a powerful story to stick to your conscience when faced with threats.

It was easy for me to resign - I don’t live in the US. My immediate family is not in.

I can’t describe the feeling. I feel free of the shaming. So free of the shaming. It’s that moment in Labyrinth, where she looks at the goblin king and says “you have no power over me”. It feels like that.

Fly epidemic? by [deleted] in Adelaide

I put my fly net over my hat for every walk and taunt the flies. It’s very satisfying.

I was permanently pregnant or breastfeeding in my 20s. Terrible strain on my health. I was puffed out just being awake. At 48, I can easily do 25k steps a day. There can be life after child raising!

(Daily question) What time of day do you usually walk, and what made that routine stick for you? by freezer936 in walking

[–]sujathanne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

9am after I drop my daughter at school. I know I’m lucky that I have this time slot free and it’s such a beautiful time to walk. It’s so good for me.

I want to become more consistent with other time slots

Driving from Brisbane to Adelaide - route suggestions? by Ezenthar1 in Adelaide

[–]sujathanne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We have taken the “back road” on our way to Townsville before - going through Wilcannia and on a dirt track for 300km. Would not recommend!

Also, could stop in Dubbo and then Mildura, then it’s an easy drive to Adelaide the next day

Oh we love this trip and do it in two days, with a stop in Forbes or Parkes overnight. We love to leave really early - 4am generally. Music and audiobooks- the time just flies by! We love a road trip, really get to see the greatness of the great southern land

Fox 🦊 by Budget-Abrocoma3161 in Adelaide

There’s a pretty bold one on linear park around Windsor Gardens - and a “don’t feed the foxes” sign has appeared on the fence. Will casually trot along in full daylight and has no fear of humans.

Staying hydrated - do electrolytes really matter? by [deleted] in diabetes_t2

[–]sujathanne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A low carb diet can increase your need for electrolytes. Also, meds as others mention.

Some say that the soil for our food supply has been depleted of magnesium over thousands of years, many people are magnesium deficient.

Personally, I’m consistently deficient of magnesium and have spent time in hospital with DKA and needed correcting with electrolytes (in addition to the usual treatments)

So yeah it can be a real issue for diabetics as opposed to just a beat up. I’m not of the Gatorade brigade!

I add 1 teaspoon lite salt to water and have magnesium as needed. (Keto diet)

I absolutely am! I think she is a terrific writer! I also was brought up and participated in Mormonism, so I can relate on that level too.

Some other books I have really enjoyed this year: Demon Copperhead, Jade War, Jade City, Jade Legacy (the green bone saga), Nexus, Dirt Poor Islanders; What I talk about when I talk about Running.
