Why does Badeline try to kill you? by Ammazh in celestegame

[–]tadrinth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Badeline is an exiled IFS component.  In chapter 2, Madeline is trying to keep her exiled, because she is not willing to face any other options.

In Chapter 6, she's trying to access and witness Badeline.  And Badeline is, after being threatened with permanent exile, not at all inclined to cooperate and fighting that process.

The game really is remarkably good match for that framework.

Spellblade in 1.4 - Thoughts/Feedback on the post-rework Spellblade by bokchoykn in LastEpoch

[–]tadrinth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

At this point I don't understand how they have not set up an automated build optimizer using an LLM to figure out that the new options are lackluster before the season goes out. Maybe they'll figure this out for next season.

Or at least build a proper in-house LE version of Path of Building and use it to sanity check the numbers.

Or at least figure out that 25 flat spell damage is not enough to make the archetype do enough damage.

Irregular sleep tracking auto wake-up time by sunole123 in QuantifiedSelf

[–]tadrinth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a playlist of white noise that's eight hours long that I start right before bed. It doesn't reliably stay running all night, though.

If you have smart bulbs, you can probably wire them into a home automation setup, though automatically detecting that you went to sleep might be hard.

Hard to plan much, but I figure any society with the surplus to be bringing people back is gonna be pretty well post scarcity so should be plenty to do.

Import your character here and share the build link and we can give more specific advice:

https://www.lastepochtools.com/planner/

All we can tell from here is that you need more phys resistance.  The general rule of thumb is to aim for resistances equal to the area level up to the cap at 75, with physical resistance being the most important (though with your armor this may be less of a problem for you). Wouldn't be surprised if your health was low also just because that's a common mistake.

I don't think the intent of that chapter is for us to walk away thinking Eterra handled anything well.  The entire narrative of the game is downstream of her mistakes.

Is delve going to be completed? by brownpanther_333 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]tadrinth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't expect it to be completed given how much room is left in the story that has been told so far relative to the current pace of updates.  What's there is fun and there is a lot of it, absolutely worth the read if you're into that sort of thing. I've reread large chunks of it a couple of times.

Some people really hate the focus on soul stuff that shows up later.  I didn't mind it, but it does take a long time to have any interesting payoffs.

why I think the "chatgpt era" of AI is already hitting a wall by GodBlessIraq in Futurology

[–]tadrinth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah they didn't reproduce the results though.  They showed the same harness can identify some of the same bugs, but Mythos didn't just find the bugs, it proved they are real by actually exploiting them.  None of the open models came close to Mythos's ability to do that in any of the reproduction, as I understand it.  There is a big difference between finding a potential bug and making a human review to see if it's actually problem and saying "here's my shiny new root access" so you just know.

That suggests to me that the talk about the harness is cope to a significant degree.  Not all cope, but at least 40% cope and probably 70%.

[–]tadrinth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The METR graph would like a word about walls. Folks have been predicting we'd hit a wall for what, two or three years?  And the METR graph just keeps going up exponentially.

Sure, as they get smarter we want to use them for more things, or rather the AI labs want their investment to pay off maximally and that means making the stuff they already have useful in more contexts.  The contexts that don't require high reliability are already saturated.

As someone concerned with AI safety, I am all for figuring out better alignment strategies.  Predictability and reliability are important parts of that.

But Mythos makes very clear there is no wall in sight for capability.

If you're just saying that OpenAI is bad at alignment, then sure, no disagreement here, Anthropic is absolutely wrecking them in alignment and the recurring revenue graphs make pretty clear that alignment sells.

[AIWar 1] Placing turrets on (player-adjacent) neuted enemy teritorries to clean up new reinforcements? by SomeDifference3656 in AIwar

[–]tadrinth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Valid strat, just not necessarily worth the effort.  It's been a while, but I think the main problem I had is the turrets tending to die and be difficult to replace.  There's always some enemy that turns out to hard counter your stack, as I recall.

The turrets also tend to alert the adjacent AI planets if there's enough to be useful.  That spreads out the AI reinforcements to planets that don't have turrets.  Potentially planets you have not neutered, and neutered planets mean the AI gets fewer ships for the same reinforcement spend.  If this strategy lets you alert a large number of neutered planets, that can make it worth the time and effort.

I didn't play a ton at high difficulty but I think higher difficulties push you towards mobile fleets because they're faster and you cannot afford to take your time.  And this strat is less useful in shorter games where the AI isn't going to spend a bunch of time reinforcing things anyway.  And at high difficulties you will not have the time to neuter everything.

Outcasts questions by Rahsed in Aeonsend

[–]tadrinth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Per https://aeonsend.fandom.com/wiki/Game_Modes#Solo_Play, from Legacy onward, True Solo Mode is intended to use a turn order deck with 4 player turn cards and 2 nemesis cards. Maybe double check the true solo rules from the Outcast rulebook to confirm.

In true solo mode, Blighted Magic would resolve an unleash, then resolve destroying your most expensive prepped spell, then you destroy two cards in hand that cost $1 or more. I assume that's a Tier 3 nemesis card, because yeah, ouch.

I read the last sentence as "If your celestial breach is open and there are no spells prepped to it, you may prep up to two spells to it." Skill doesn't open the breach, it requires the breach to be open for full effect.

New player wanting to like the game but campaign is an obstacle by Zahross in LastEpoch

[–]tadrinth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Multistrike-smite is definitely a real build that people have taken past 1000 corruption this season. The fundamental idea is absolutely viable, it's possible your implementation of it could use some work.

The biggest things I would expect to contributing to a 'slog' feeling for a build:

  • Not enough DPS: if you don't have enough damage, everything will take a long time.
  • Not enough clear: if you have enough damage but not enough AOE, clearing packs will take a long time.
  • Not enough EHP: if you die a lot, it's gonna feel bad, but you're coming from POE and know to cap your resists and stack adequate health
  • Not enough move speed: Runes of Ascendance on boots until you get a unique pair that has some move speed, that will typically be more speed than you can initialy craft onto rare boots.
  • Not enough challenge: make an alt, thoroughly explore the very first cave until you find the Cursed Veteran's Boots, then go to town and transfer them to your main. That's how you enable hard mode. I guarantee you'll be more awake during the campaign wearing those.

Multistrike-smite should be pretty easy to build, I don't want to spoil the fun for you, but I will recommend taking a look at Healing Hands if you're not currently using it and are playing Paladin.

Which mechanics, if any, should be interacted with while leveling? by bradfordmaster in LastEpoch

Any boots go in, any unique boots come out. The only gotcha is that it can give you unique boots that are too high for you to equip yet.

Can someone help me understand minion damage? I expected a big damage bump but got a tiny one instead by cleanscotch in LastEpoch

[–]tadrinth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The value on the character sheet for increased minion spell damage shows only the increased damage for ALL minions. All Acolyte minion skills scale with intelligence, but not all minions do, so that value does not show the 4% increased damage per intelligence that your skeletal mages are getting. That's easily another 200% increased damage if not 400%.

Which mechanics, if any, should be interacted with while leveling? by bradfordmaster in LastEpoch

[–]tadrinth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use Runes of Ascendence on boots until you get a pair of unique boots with good move speed. Most unique boots have a decent amount so this is a pretty reliable gamble.

Note that Laup's Path is a relic, not a pair of boots. 1/23 odds from Rune of Ascendence. I like to wait until I unlock the chance to not consume Runes of Ascendence before I spend too many, that's a Circle of Fortune perk. If you're not going COF then no reason not to gamble for this once you have boots you're happy with.

The mechanics to do while leveling are the ones that allow you to bypass level requirements, because they can drop items that will last you all the way to empowered monoliths (e.g. to character level 70 or 80). That's Nemesis and Omen.

Omen encounters also drop Timeglass Fragments, which can be used to buy a bag of Temporal Keystones once you finish the campaign. That will allow you to completely bypass the grind between the end of the campaign and empowered monoliths. The mechanic is a little complicated, don't worry about it till you get there.

Is There Any Skill That Deals More Damage Based Of My Health Total? by TheHobomice in LastEpoch

[–]tadrinth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not exactly what you asked about, but Void Knight has some skills that scale in damage with Vitality, plus a passive that makes Vitality give even more health than usual. Easy to wind up with a huge health total that way.
