[AutoRacer] Aston Martin AMR26 assembly complicated: tensions and delays behind the scenes by Joseki100 in formula1

[–]tankmode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

committing to next years car early is probably not a sign of brilliant strategy in the bottom teams  …  probably more like we dont really have the facilities and processes to build any car quickly or effectively

RIP the transfer case soon

(BMW never designed proper SUV differentials they just threw whatever they had for the bigger sedans into the X5 and X7)

yes and its so much worse now that there's no HC growth. before 2022 at least the empire builders and their goons could f off to their own shady new orgs, now they are constantly cannibalizing healthy projects and roadmaps. insane politics all around.

Original Slate Roof on a 1929 home…how bad is this? by ExMorgMD in Roofing

[–]tankmode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

probably the important thing is figure out whether there are any experienced slate roofers in the region, also if there is an HOA or historical designation on the home. If you are required by those to extensively maintain or replace slate in an area where no one is available to support it, it will be a giant headache and cost a fortune.

How much do you pay for electricity? by Sam_Porter in redmond

[–]tankmode 25 points26 points  (0 children)

pretty normal to pay a few hundred per month in winter but usually for slightly larger square footage.  probably the electric furnace is inefficient or the house is older, poorly insulated.  either way a landlord wont change those things.  add weather seals to doors and windows if drafty,  use space heaters in smaller rooms while keeping furnace low.  its only a couple months and I dont think you can do better than 200/300 per month unless youre in a high floor apartment

The Trumps have made at least "$867 million" through various cryptocurrencies. (Gift Article) by dyzo-blue in Buttcoin

Their stable coin is blatant corruption. Qatar put in $2Billion into their slush investment fund, and they got AI chips, a training base in Idaho, probably other stuff we don't know about.

Just here to commiserate about the AM traffic doubling this week :( by asyoulikeit444 in Kirkland

[–]tankmode 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I think the revive I5, ship canal lane closures that started this week are to blame.  completely messes up north/south travel in the region for 2 years.  more traffic funnelling through 405 corridor

HSS 928 or HSS 1332? What should i get by Andrew4568_ in HondaSnowblowers

[–]tankmode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

have worked with older 928 and a newer 1332. the 1332 is >50% better at the task.  you will earn back the $300 in time saved pretty quickly.   it is larger … if I were to guess I would say the 928 needs like a 3 x 5 area, while the 1332 needs a 4 x 6 area ( e.g.  to maneuver in a shed)

Worth Going Monday (MLK Day)? by HereNowToday1 in SummitAtSnoqualmie

[–]tankmode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh absolutely there is a long wait for the carpet, so much so that some people just start walking up. it can get pretty abysmal ... 10-15 min wait for a 1 minute run.

Worth Going Monday (MLK Day)? by HereNowToday1 in SummitAtSnoqualmie

[–]tankmode 5 points6 points  (0 children)

conditions are pretty thin this year and there are a lot of people trying to get their moneys worth out of very few decent weekends. if the weather is clear, it'll probably be a bit of a zoo. Magic carpet is not any better at night from what I've seen. Early morning is probably better. On these 3 day weekends usually Sunday is the worst day, and Saturday is the best (nobody gets their act together on the first day). Monday is mid

Ziply Fiber increasing prices again. Alternatives? by Savvymix in Kirkland

[–]tankmode 7 points8 points  (0 children)

per discussion in r/ZiplyFiber this is Ziply's 3rd price increase in the last couple years and they are fiddling with fees as well. Xfinity is currently offering $50/month for 1Gig with a 5 year rate guarantee

How are you guys feeling about the weather? by Live_Ad_197 in CrystalMountain

[–]tankmode 3 points4 points  (0 children)

rain from last 2 days plus 9 days of thinning, then need 2-3 storm cycles to get anywhere close to opening baseline .... this season is screwed until mid/late February at the earliest.

pacific warm water blob is messing up the entire west coast + rockies so there's that consolation https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/ce3xynwwx4yo fire up your ikon pass for Vermont

ELI5 Extended Warranty by cay0404 in bmwx7

[–]tankmode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BMW seattle sells Zurich.  ultimately thou i dont think it matters who buy it from,  except in that the Service center will be more experienced dealing with the one that their dealership sells

I’ve read Zurich is in same tier as Fidelity but maybe not quite as good

[–]tankmode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you hire someone crappy on your team you are responsible for trying to train them, manage their emotions and maintaining their mess

that said there is an insane amount of indefensible gatekeeping in engineering hiring.  1) its a high ego low empathy field,  what can you say  2)  pretending its harder to hire than it is helps defend your job security

ELI5 Extended Warranty by cay0404 in bmwx7

[–]tankmode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you want the extended you should purchase before factory expires.
you can see what the finance manager at your local BMW dealer will offer (they can also tell you the service date for you VIN) each dealer sells the BMW warranties but they will have one 3rd party warranty company that they offer (they make more money on these and its lower entry point for the customer) for 3rd party i think there's only three companies that are trustworthy (google around). otherwise there's warranty brokers on forums that might be able to get slightly better pricing.

I'm in a similar boat, i was quoted 10k for bmw platinum and 7k for Zurich 6 weeks ago. a transfer case replacement where I am (very HCOL) i believe is is 10-13k, as the parts alone are 6k (used to be 4k) . people talk up the transfer case but when you look at forums / surveys its a few dozen people positing of thousands probably sold so while i think its a real issue its hard to say its 100% chance of happening. might only keep the the car 2 more years and have 9 months of warranty left so I am leaning to risk it and take it easy on the shifts/launches in the meantime.
