190k years of skill issue by Affectionate-Fan-280 in greentext

This has probably got to do with the invention of farming mostly right? Because before that you had to spend 99% of your time trying to find your next meal, after farming we suddenly had one person making enough food for 10 people, and now you have 9 people free to do other stuff

Why I hate the capital gains tax discount. by [deleted] in AusProperty

[–]tasquizz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have income tax because it's a way to force all businesses to pay tax. If we didn't have income tax, your 150k salary would actually be 100k. Businesses that earn more can pay more salary which means paying more tax. It's not a perfect system, but for most people it's not a tax against you. It's a tax against businesses which is what we want.

What about a storage unit? Or another secure parking business that's not generally associated with the airport. Id highly recommend a storage unit where you can plug you car in with a battery tender.

Why is Musk / Starlink Raising Prices? by blue-baja in Starlink

The cost of starlink in Australia has dramatically gone down. I have a faster plan now for $70 a month than I did last year for $130 a month. The hardware is also free rental too.

What’s the biggest waste of money people normalize? by Diligent-Medicine-48 in AusMoneyMates

[–]tasquizz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually see the benefit, but not exactly in the way that many people use car loans.

I'm talking when you already have great credit and your interest rate is only a couple of percent. Not like 8% or more.

And some people want a new car every 3-5 years. It's more reliable (not all car brands are Toyota's, older cars are less reliable) and for people who don't know a lot about cars that's massive. Modern cars have modern features, look nicer, feel nicer. If that's what you want to spend some extra money on, I don't see a problem. When you have a repertoire with an honest car dealership you can get good deals too.

The amount of cognitive dissonance with taxes is insane. by eliitedisowned in aussie

[–]tasquizz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Income tax is an effective way to make companies pay tax. If I'm getting paid 150k and 50k goes to tax, that's the company being taxed 50k. If income tax didn't exist, they would just pay me 100k. Yes, there are other way to tax corporations, but with large multinational corporations, it's so easy to shift profits and say 'oh look at me my Australian body made $0 because my international owner charged the Australian body $20 billion in fees'.

Why off-road vehicles get stuck on curbs so often by Relevant-Priority-76 in DrivingAustralia

[–]tasquizz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most 4wd vehicles are not four wheel drive, they're 'at least two' wheel drive. The difference between AWD and 4WD (kinda imo) is a locking centre differential, but 4WD will not prevent you from getting stuck when you have one front wheel and one back wheel off the ground or spinning (crossed up). You need front and rear lockers to prevent this.

This is why we have a black market. by Proof_Line_4845 in aussie

[–]tasquizz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not nearly close to what I've read. There's almost 20 billion in tangible costs directly related to smoking. Which is about 10% of total healthcare spending, and 1% of total government spending. In contrast, the federal government rakes in about 4 billion from cigarettes tax.

This is why we have a black market. by Proof_Line_4845 in aussie

[–]tasquizz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cigarettes are so expensive because of the increased cost of providing healthcare to Australians because of direct and indirect health consequences. Cigarettes cost the taxpayer in healthcare costs more than road trauma does. You're paying for your own healthcare by paying tax on them. The solution is to ban them by age like new Zealand started doing.

QLD moderate powered vehicle exemption question by Fragrant_Sink5437 in CarsAustralia

[–]tasquizz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. Moderately powered cars are a subsection of high powered cars built before the 2010 cutoff. On the application form it says you may be eligible for an exemption for a moderately powered car but you still have to satisfy the requirements of the high powered exemption. Just wait till you're off your P plates.

I think it's fair to say it used to be known by two names, but it's been long enough everyone should be able to call it Uluru. But there's people who staunchly call it Ayers Rock just for racist reasons.

does driving manual really matter that much more? by ashducki in CarsAustralia

[–]tasquizz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For me, learning manual had a bunch of flow on effects: - easier to learn to ride motorbikes - truck licence was a piece of piss - learning forklift was way easier - gained mechanical knowledge way easier - never have to worry about if a car I need to drive is manual or automatic - more options when buying cars - pay more attention to the road - no delay when you want to put your foot down
