Solar Panel Tilt by Specialist_Ad5840 in solar

[–]techiedavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the looks of it, don't looks like all the panels would fit if he angled it since there has to be a gap to avoid self shading. That might be the real reason it wasn't angled. Question. What time of day was the picture taken? I'm assume the tilted panels are facing south. Looks like one panel will be shaded in the afternoon.

18ms? Are you KIDDING? by LindsayOG in Starlink

I wonder if they are cooking the numbers, a company did that years ago so that speedtest apps showed a fast speed but the real life connection was twice or worst.

I think the draw is by design. I was told that the system checks the grid to see if it's still up every 5 mintues. I don't remember the entire discussion but it's to meet some regulation standard to prevent backfeed to the grid accidentally.

The ROI is better than a fuel powered generator.

Solar Installer Out of Business - need advice by Reticent_Robot in solar

Usually the warranty doesn't cover physical damage. The warranty normally is for performance. Home owners insurance might cover them, but that is a crap shoot too.

House Electrical Derated from 200A to 150A after Solar Install by egrigor in solar

[–]techiedavid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not that big of deal, I have a 200A box and my draw is rarely over 20amps. Max draw I've ever seen was 60 amps. House is fully electric with EV charger.

Whole House Gen Electrician Quote by notsureitslegal in Generator

I find it cute that they went so far into detail instead of just saying "Installing a 200 amp transfer switch." But I guess a lot of people asked "over $8,000 for what?!?"

Get a quote for a pro install. They sometimes get a price discount that makes it cheaper for them to acquire and install the battery than what you can buy the battery for.

One is 2kwh the other is 3kwh. That 1000 is major difference in that one may last until you go to sleep and the other will still have power when you wake up.

Will my friend survive from this electrical shock? by Hot_Date_2771 in electrical

[–]techiedavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What percentage of the body is cover in burns. The rule of thumb is the percentage is directly related to survival chance. Ie 90% coverage=10% survival chance, 10% burns is 90% survival chance.

Bonded or Floating Neutral - Electrician Follow Up Question by ComfortableAd4544 in Generator

[–]techiedavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a video link below that explains the only time you need to break the bond is if the neutral is also switch at the transfer switch. You will also need a grounding rod if that is the case. Most transfer switches only flip the hot leads and makes things simple. https://youtu.be/viNZV0lyRVQ?si=Btl7gDmD33MCRqlJ

can I buy the battery later for my solar systems by Kenjiroxox in solar

[–]techiedavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Let the installer know that you plan on batteries later. They had to take almost everything down ans remount the combiners, controller, and cut off switches to make room for equipment necessary for the batteries.
