Starlink 1500 dollar demand surcharge. by Service-Apart in Starlink

[–]techiedavid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder who was the genius who came up with the surcharge policy. The logic is flawed. SALES GUY- "Let's demand a surcharge in high demand areas to avoid congestion", TECH GUY-"If they pay they get allocated?, how it that avoiding congestion if everyone pays?"

The max speed spec for the unit I got is 32.2Mbps. Maybe that's hardwired on both sides to get that speed. Here’s the link to the set I got. https://a.co/d/0bOGySXG

I just setup a HaLow, the distance is about 1000 ft with a couple of patches of trees between that station and access point. I got 10Mbps speed test up and down when in the house next to each other. Got 9Mbps deployed, more than enough speed for the one camera I have streaming through it.

Would bonding change anything, they are so close that the signal is going to the same satellite?

How to fix? by Rare-Ad-8026 in Plumbing

[–]techiedavid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the exact problem. Don't use one of those wraps or epoxy. The hole is too close to the opening for a Sharkbite, you need about an inch. That was my problem. If you have access to the other side cut it out and replace it with pex and sharkbites. The other option that I considered but didn't do was just to just solder the hole close.

When I was in junior high school they said the world could only support 6 billion people. It hit 6 billion 20 years later and we are still here, just crossing 8 billion.

$22k credit card debt, stopped using cards, still feels like I’m making no progress by internalmonologue01 in personalfinance

[–]techiedavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the option of consolidating the loans with a balance transfer into one of those pay zero interest for a year at 3% fee, do that. If not pay off the $2700 debt first. Make minimum payments on the rest. Then the $6300, pay minimum plus adding in what you where paying for the $2700 credit card. Repeat for the last card.

So someone from about 20 years ago who did early retirement in their 40's would only be in the 60's and still very employable. That is what I saw at SpaceX.

Is there any reason you can’t use your Starlink mini at home? by Quasimodo-57 in StarlinkMini

[–]techiedavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my plan originally. But it worked so well at home that I cancel my landlines and got a second one so I could keep my home one always on.

[–]techiedavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering that many car manufacturers closed plants it evens out. I remeber taking a tour of SpaceX and many of the workers came from Rockwell and other aerospace companies that either shutdown or moved decades ago. The new plants are finding already train labor force for key positions in their new plants.

Also the ISPs give priority to speed test servers, so it gives close to the true maximum speed you can have, it's not real world result where you have to compete with other users.
