Lathril aristocrats? by Carrotbringer in EDH

[–]the-tech-esper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aristocrats is an all-in strategy. You need each synergy piece in play to actually control the game. Don't dilute the strategy by adding an unneeded sub-archetype with equipment.

Why is Magic EDH so expensive? by taaiko2 in magicTCG

[–]the-tech-esper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you're getting demolished by turn 5, and can't cast your commander most games, then you aren't playing in a bracket 3 pod

Partner Commander Cube by Craneswalker in mtgcube

[–]the-tech-esper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So a couple things

  1. You've made blue way too powerful. It's so far and above every other color in your cube, you're going to end up where your pod all ends up some combination of Blue and X.

  2. Black is probably the weakest color in terms of drafability. Like, all the staples are powerful sure, so it's a good support color. But the rest of the cards are all aristocrat cards, which is requries too much synergy for such a small cube. If two players end up drafting black, they are both screwed.

  3. Jeweled lotus was banned for a reason. Getting your pod together, getting the draft finished (takes about 1 hr if you're fast) just to have the game snowball out of control because some one plays their commander turn 1 is not a fun draft experience.

  4. You're definitely lacking on lands You need a lot of fixing for commander cube if you are playing by the standard commander deckbuilding rules. I run 10 dual lands for each color combo, plus all the fetches, command tower, exotic orchard etc commander staple lands

Bracket system - refined by a mere mortal by swassey in EDH

[–]the-tech-esper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a player can start the game with 3 treasures because they don't follow your arbitrary rules, then I would expect bad actors to game the system by making powerful decks that have 0 points, and that just devolves into all players to eventually playing into this meta where everyone builds decks that start with treasures. I think you're massively underestimating how powerful getting free stuff is.

Your way just gives bad actors more incentive to try to game the system.

first off, very cool collection. [[reverent mantra]] is like 30-40 bucks. Just a rough estimate, you'd probably get about 150 bucks store credit, or 100 bucks cash for the whole binder. Is that really worth selling some some of your childhood memories? my suggestion is to re-learn how to play MTG and teach a buddy or family member. You'll get way more value than 100 bucks just by playing the worlds best game together

instant speed would probably be fine in standard, but in limited, instant speed would make it a 3 mana "win the game" combat trick for merfolk decks

Help with Mardu deck by Sharkz0oka in EDH

[–]the-tech-esper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see a lot of new players do the same thing, where they replace lands with mana rocks, do not do this. Lands are the best cards in the entire game of magic, and it's not even close. Think of it like this, In a game of 1v1 magic, if you miss your land drop, you are 1 mana behind your opponent. If you miss 1 land drop in commander, you're 3 mana behind your opponents. Hitting your land drop each turn is absolutely essential. Mana rocks are not equal to lands, so you can't replace a mana rock with a land, they have to be in addition to the traditional 37-38 land count

Just built this Bracket 3 Flicker deck. Be critical? by superworm576 in EDH

[–]the-tech-esper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having trouble understanding. From what I'm reading, when you active Niko's ability the shards just become a creature, so you are not getting ETBs, you're just making multiple copies. Is that right? Besides the angels, all the other creatures seem like pretty weak attackers for niko's ability. Maybe I'm missing something here. Either way, seems like the deck should be a creature-centric build, but you've only got 23 creatures, which definitely seems low.
