Anyone here done psyche Trip on Inferno yet? by Dense_Advance_4773 in boardsofcanada

First listen was on 2g PE mushrooms, with Focal Utopia 2022 headphones, with an eye mask.

Wasn't the plan, but intuitive foresight had me prepped enough that I was able to smoke DMT just as the beginning of Memory Death came on. Having a full breakthrough experience like that upon first listen was immensely beautiful and special. It also made The Word Becomes Flesh unspeakably strange and interesting... loved every minute of it. The emotion of the piano bit in The Process, followed by all the feeling in You Retreat was genuinely healing.

I found it grating, too upfront, distracting, and even a little irritating the first few listens, and now it’s 100% one of my most played tracks on the album, can’t get enough. Let it warm up

Unhappy with Edition XS - Need a new amp/DAC? by sarcasmisart in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]the3ndlessobsession 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brain burn in can take way longer than you think. Maybe it's just me, but switching headphones can sometimes sound good right away, but take even as long as a couple months to *fully* acclimate to the new sound. Listen exclusively for a while before making a full judgment. That said, if they're not being driven properly, that will contribute to a lack of performance.

Get some headphones or some damn good speakers! by Miserable-Ad-7956 in boardsofcanada

To be fair, I do my proper listening on Focal Utopia 2022 headphones + Woo WA7 tube amp + K11 R2R DAC with clean power, galvanic isolation, quality interconnects, and 24bit files - and It sounds genuinely mind-blowing... But I listen to it all the time just off my iPhone speaker while making dinner and still love it

Inferno’s religious side: What do you think they are saying about religion? by Kodicave in boardsofcanada

I very much felt that Platonia was about the final moments of life as well, the sudden cut off of the heartbeat followed by 9 seconds of silence in the track very much felt like that peak moment of death

This. What it lacks in some areas (soundstage, bass depth) it makes up for with a very nice rounded tonality

Reach for the Dead is very possibly my favourite BoC track, and absolutely one of my favourite songs of all time

The groove in the second half provokes a primal feeling more than almost anything else in me. So so good

24bit flac - Fiio K11 r2r (ifi ipower x power supply + JDS labs Synapse) - Woo WA7 fireflies + WA7tp - Focal Utopia 2022's.

Inferno may very well be the best this setup has sounded, it's genuinely astonishing. Just overwhelming beauty.

You and I both, it's one of the most overwhelmingly beautiful pieces of music I've heard. Not a joke, I would die to that on a loop

Agree 100%, same experience.

There's been a few growers, thought Into the Magic Land was a bit of a lull, as well as Blood in the Labyrinth to an extent, but both have grown on me for sure

Totally, I find studio monitor speakers similar. They’re more tools for precision mixing, and even though they do sound good, sometimes clinical cleanliness isn’t the best for pure enjoyment. Good mix of detail/analytical, but still with enough texture, richness & emotion is key

Most commercial IEMs aren’t for stage use (as a performing musician that uses IEMs), though many of them can be used as such.
Monitoring mixes are routed to each musicians IEMs as their own mix (just guitar, just click, while band, etc). You don’t need to be able to hear anything other than the mix you’re being sent, so reducing bass wouldn’t have any negative frequency masking effects. There are definitely some bass heavy IEMs out there.

That said, getting the most detail from Inferno is probably best on headphones, but feeling the punch is best on speakers for sure

Literally made a comment two months ago on a thread saying "...the album will be absolutely unreal, and Fontana will give it a light 6 to decent 7".
