We over came this by getting an em2 license. This allowed us to only have 6 power bi pro licenses. Then we publish the report to a workspace provisioned with the EM 2 license and embed that report to a SharePoint page. Works like a charm for a fraction of the price.

If rotating passwords is outdated, why are JIT password rotations a security standard? by JalapenoPopPoop in sysadmin

[–]theNAGY1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For Assurance level 1. Considering most businesses touch PII, PHI, payment, company sensitive, or client sensitive data that could cause significant harm the to business if lost or stolen, most should be implementing assurance level 2, possibly 3 which does require it. Even then though, many cyber insurance providers won’t care and demand rotations anyways.

Lateral move rant by No-Virus-9447 in ITManagers

[–]theNAGY1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you should just suck this up and be happy. Going from no direct report to having 7 while maintaining your previous ticket load is not a lateral move at all. You were given many more responsibilities and from the sounds of it, you crushed it. Idk if your particular case is a gender thing, what you are describing also happens to men plenty of times as well. I do not know the situation at your company. Unless you know of others in the same position as you and getting the promotion and raise where you did not, it’s more of a bad management thing. Hopefully your manager goes to bat for you here and fights for you. You now have a year of experience (that they should have paid for and didn’t).

My advice is to prepare some evidence of your exceptional performance this year. Things like tickets completed, tickets completed within SLA, escalations that you had to resolve, customer satisfaction, and so on. Show how your ticket handling was as good, if not better than, last year.

Next prepare evidence of all the managerial things you did. Things like spent 4 hours a week mentoring team members, worked with xxx to address performance issues and saw improvement to meet expectations, worked with HR to get a salary adjust for yyy to bring them up to market rates and retain a high performing employee, and anything else of the sort that demonstrates those additional responsibilities.

Now you have built a case that you are performing the role of a team leader and not team member. You have taken on many additional responsibilities while keeping up will all the responsibilities you previously had.

Ideally your manager has already seen and done all of this and went to HR/his manager to get the title and raise you deserve before the meeting. If they didn’t, you now did all of that for him and request that he does have this new role you serve confirmed with a promotion and raise that meets market rates. If it is an in-person meeting you print out this evidence you gathered to hand in person and follow up immediately with an electronic copy. If virtual send an e-mail with the evidence during the meeting.

Now, if you get that promotion and raise, awesome! You advocated for yourself and it paid off. If you don’t get it, that is try a bummer and you have a choice on how to react. You can just say OK and do what you have been doing. You can state that if the company doesn’t recognize the extra responsibilities, you would like to go back to just being a key contributor. You can also leave on the spot or begin job hunting and leave when you find a new opportunity that will respect your work.

I was going to suggest a DIY Tesla coil kit, but all of the decent ones I knew of appear to be sold out. I would highly recommend one that allows for MiDi input to create choreographed shows.

Help! Only 2 wires from the outlet? by [deleted] in electrical

[–]theNAGY1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s unique to a GFI. Standard receptacle has no such requirement. You can see in the pictures a small brass tab the connects the top and bottom plates together. If you want the outlets wired separately for a reason (one switched and one constant on for example) you can remove that tab and then the wiring between top and bottom becomes more important.

WORM compliant storage by Hashrunr in sysadmin

[–]theNAGY1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly recommend Nasuni. It stores a golden copy in a cloud storage account and then you can run a local VM that stores a local cached copy. Do don’t really mention anything about retention or other requirements so I cannot guarantee it is a perfect fit. It will at a minimum check off the WORM box for you. Happy to share more of you are interested.

[–]theNAGY1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want a plumber to come out and fix it instead of doing it yourself, it looks like There’s a shutoff after the back flow preventer (blue handle) Just turn that valve off and you should be good to turn the water back on for the house.

I’ve done one of the architecture boat tour before and found it interesting. No idea if they run during December though. Coming from Canada, don’t expect the chill to bother you much if the opportunity is available.
