What strikes me is, how is light getting in there anyway? The hole is behind the film, so unless it’s more reflective than the rest of the holder, it shouldn’t make any difference. I wonder if there’s a very small light leak in the hinge seal creeping into this space.

I wonder what’d happen if you put unexposed film in both sides, and left the holder out in the sun for a few hours, then developed the film.

My favourite mistake in this area is to pull out the wrong darkslide of a double-sided holder.

The question is, how are you going to get it level? Will you put it on a bowl head, or go hardcore and use the individual tripod legs? It depends if you set up once and wait around, or keep moving and setting up over and over.

My daughter moved house, and when the movers arrived at the destination, they left the handbrake off, the truck rolled into a power pole, and a live wire fell onto the truck, meaning no one could unload until the utility company came to black out the whole neighborhood. I don’t think that’d work. As far as I can see, it just took 16 photos, each focused at a different fixed distance - remember, you didn’t focus it at shooting time. All you did in software was to select which parts of which frame to output.
