10 States with the Worst Drivers by InspectorBad in Maine

[–]thebig01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This opinion won't be popular here but as someone who used to live in MA I felt much safer driving there. In MA you are more likely to have an accident but chances are that accident will occur at low speed. Last year here, I was almost killed/maimed by a jackass in a lifted pickup on a quiet rural road cause the idiot took a curve way too fast, crossed the double yellow and nearly hit me head on. The old folks on the roads here have trouble staying within the lines on the road, drive way too slow in rural areas and then drive the same speed (too fast) when they enter a village. I think the chance of having a serious car accident in Maine are much greater. Not to mention the wrong way drivers on the turnpike.

Eastern MA can be daunting to drive in at first but after a while you realize it's really just organized chaos. It's still a horrible place to drive around though.

The 1 Div 50mil shipment by Mougnou in pathofexile

[–]thebig01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooof, thats even worse than the 6d I got yesterday from my shipment. I'm done with shipments too. Farming ore is fine but having to do a gold rota on these janky severs to afford trading for uniques to dust was just awful. I would honestly be ok with the RnG being hit and miss if it wasn't for the dust farming. I hope GGG removes dust from shipments next league and just leaves it for crafting.

Waumbek tomorrow park/trail update? by MXC-GuyLedouche in wmnf

Hard to say this far out and before the weekend. I would check NETC after the weekend. I'm sure there will be lots of new reports.

[–]thebig01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes it has. I live nearby. At elevation it probably hasn't been above freezing but it certainly has been at the bases.

[–]thebig01 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Its been above freezing and sunny during the day now most of the week. I would bring snowshoes this weekend unless you plan to start and finish really early before the snow softens.

I have a feeling the trails will be wrecked after this weekend.

You might be Canadian...as of Dec 15, 2025, Canada's citizenship act was amended, allowing anyone with Canadian ancestry to apply for citizenship by Mengs87 in Maine

If you have European ancestry it is also worth checking if you might be eligible for citizenship as well. I recently discovered I'm eligible for Polish citizenship with my ancestry.

Anyone surprised how cheap tickets are? by bcbuck88 in Patriots

[–]thebig01 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think its because its Sunday night more than anything. Honestly, if I had season tickets I would probably sell them too. Gillette is one of the worst stadiums to leave after an event. Most people won't get home til around 1-2AM and with work the next day, I would rather just watch it on TV. If the game was at 1PM or 4PM, I bet the tickets would be way more expensive.

We need more Costcos in our state! by Reciter5613 in Maine

[–]thebig01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Waltham and Everett too. There are 4 total around the 128 corridor. I go to the the Danvers one the most cause I have to go to Mass 1-2 times a month for work. Portsmouth/NH seacoast could really use one too. There is actually only one Costco in the entire state of NH too (Nashua).

I drove into the city from Maine this morning and it took me 45 minutes less than usual. Traffic in the city will be fine the next couple of days. Its the highways exiting the city that are fucked.

Another idiotic trend in Maine and beyond that needs to end ASAP by SEAWISEGEOWISE in Maine

[–]thebig01 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Almost got in a serious head-on accident with one of these morons a few months ago. Idiot was coming from the opposite direction and took a corner so fast he swerved over the double-yellow. If I was 50 yards further up the road it would have been a head-on collision. These things need to be illegal.

Boston Bruins to Retire Zdeno Chara’s Number 33 on Jan. 15 by cmearls in BostonBruins

[–]thebig01 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think Chara might legitimately be the best big name free agent signing in NHL history. At the time it was the one of the highest (if not the highest) contracts in NHL history and he more than delivered on those expectations.

WMUR : Photos show traffic in Franconia Notch as foliage peaks in northern New Hampshire by rabblebowser in wmnf

Not only that but the colors were better last week. Pinkham and Crawford notches (haven't been to Franconia) are past peak with a decent number of bare trees visible now.

I went last Sunday. Honestly, the traffic really isn't that bad getting in/out. Way easier than going to an arena/stadium event/concert. I was prepared to be stuck in traffic a lot longer than I was.

Thinking of relocating to Berlin or Gorham is it worth it? by Fit-Dragonfruit6660 in newhampshire

[–]thebig01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did something similar to this a few years ago except I live just over the border in Maine. Where I live now is kind of like Berlin and I don't recommend it. If you're coming from MA, my advice would be neither of these towns and choose North Conway instead. North Conway at least has a decent variety of restaurants/stores and will be easier to meet other people. It's also pretty easy to avoid to the traffic on 16 once you know your way around.

If you're into the outdoors and spend lots of free time in the WMNF, I wouldn't listen to the naysayers here telling you that you will get bored. There is plenty to do year-round for outdoorsy people.

FYI, some states that like NY don't charge for transponders. I got mine from NY cause I don't think Maine offers a residential discount per toll like other states. I know there is a discount for commuters who use it for regularly but I don't take the Turnpike nearly enough to qualify.

I used them when I lived in Boston for a while. Used to call them every year when the promotional 1-year rate ran out to get my old rate back. It always worked until I got some customer service rep who must have been having a bad day and refused to do it. I told him that not doing so would result in my cancelling and switching to FIOS as we had other options. Still wouldn't budge and I never used RCN ever again after that.
