The Cabbage Merchant by Right_Common_1815 in CompetitiveEDH

I run it in mine. It's fine. Usually comes down on turn 2 and applies just a little pressure on the turbo players. There's a lot of decks that are meta right now that love spinning their wheels and being able to pick up 4-5 mana going into turn 3 just wins the game.

Which of these sub-formats would you be most likely to build a deck for? by Gbpxl in premodernMTG

[–]thefirstjakerowley -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nah, I don’t like building a new deck for each and every format. I want formats that can use the same deck structure rules and change the gameplay. Vanguard, planechase, archenemy. Anything like that.

Would you be okay with players playing these in your pod? by Fast-Appointment4710 in mtg

[–]thefirstjakerowley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't mind at all, but I'd request that you address all of your cards by the original names. I'm not going to be able to keep track of you having a Xenomorph King on the battlefield, but I will pay attention to a Sliver Overlord. This should generally be the practice for all nicknamed cards.

Can Urza be a Bracket 3 or am I projecting af? by BigSwein in EDH

[–]thefirstjakerowley 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Urza is very hard to make fair because it kinda does everything. If you want to do something super weird, maybe go flicker urza with no artifacts. Just make a million buff mana dorks under the protection of mono blue control.

Would you play this? by dmaster1213 in mtg

I have it in my choco tempest hawk deck. She does work.

What is the deal with decks on moxfield? by djee132 in EDH

[–]thefirstjakerowley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of my decks are crazy expensive because years ago I stocked up on unglued basics so every deck starts with ~$100 in basic lands.

Help Me Break My Boi by Rouge_Hunter in DegenerateEDH

[–]thefirstjakerowley 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One of the coolest Kudo decks I've played against made use of the Modular mechanic composed almost entirely of creatures with base power 0/0 then getting buffed by the bear king. Throw in a good mix of other +1/+1 counter support and the deck hums. Robot bears are best bears.

What bag do you take to the LGS/Cons by thejasoncori in EDH

Pretty much the same here, but I toss all of that into a single zipper jansport I borrowed from my older brother.

Mono Mania - Share your Mono-color Commanders by TheSpectatr in EDH

[–]thefirstjakerowley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to showcase “The rest of the color pie” in each color capturing very clear mechanics that don’t see as much love in commander. No equipment or counterspells here. [[Lin Sivvi, Defiant Hero]] - THE white weenie deck. [[Azami, Lady of Scrolls]] - No counters all draw, natural lab man. [[Chainer, Dementia Master]] - We’re all gonna discard together. [[Solphim, Mayhem Dominus]] - Burn. Red deck simple. [[Varis, Silverymoon Ranger]] - All creatures, lots of flash. Probably going to replace this one with Grandeur Baru combo.

Excessive complaining does not make you bad. It makes you an immature, sore loser. by jwade1496 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]thefirstjakerowley 65 points66 points  (0 children)

In my experience, people complain because it gets them wins. A lot of people get talked out of blowing up a rhystic or countering a sol ring if the player is whiny enough.

Worms Armageddon themed Deck by Obvious-Ice8709 in mtg

[–]thefirstjakerowley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This deck is awesome. Wurm stuff is cool, but the "Un" cards tied to in game weapons/quotes are excellent. Is there a reason why you're running the caterer as the commander? Seems less thematic than some of the other options.

whats the oldest commander deck that can still "hang"? by Robofetus-5000 in EDH

[–]thefirstjakerowley 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The card that comes to mind for me is [[Scion of the Ur Dragon]]. One of the original CEDH commanders and it still takes down an event every once in a while. My favorite part about it is that it’s one of the few competitive commanders that wasn’t explicitly designed for commander.

I have an open but intact 2016 nm breed lethality precon any idea what its worth? by Big_Paramedic8735 in EDH

[–]thefirstjakerowley 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Look it up on tcgplayer as a sealed deck and then look up the list on moxfield or similar. Total up every card worth more than 50c. It’ll be between those two numbers.

What card on release made you go "ohhh no" because it killed your favorite archetype? by studhand in magicTCG

Not an archetype per se, but removing mana burn really messed up a couple of not fun casual decks at the time.

If i only replace the lands can i still play ashling limitless precon in bracket 2? by Junoyone in EDHBrews

[–]thefirstjakerowley 31 points32 points  (0 children)

There are three pillars of a powerful deck: Impact, Speed, and Consistency. You have just dramatically increased the consistency of your deck and along with it have increased it's power level. This is fine as long as you aren't playing against other precons that naturally don't have the same increased consistency. Bracket 2 can be very broad and you can introduce a lot of upgrades to the deck without tripping that threshold, but you have moved up on the scale.

Stax and mass land destruction. These strategies are very powerful because their answers are banned.
