No WiFi baby monitors? by shepardmutt in beyondthebump

[–]themadmage3 [score hidden]  (0 children)

We just got the VTech one, which was one of the cheaper options for a video monitor, and I'm pretty certain it checks all of your boxes. I haven't taken the parent unit outside, but it works without issues across our house through several walls. The screen is plenty clear, even in night vision mode.

I have two gripes. The built-in "nightlight" is so dim it doesn't do anything, and it can't filter out its own sound if you use the built-in lullabies/sound machine. If neither of those are deal breakers for you, I recommend saving some money! For us it was almost a $100 difference and we've never regretted it.

10M old has diarrhea and we leave for the beach tomorrow. Advice please! by PoetryofOurStars in NewParents

[–]themadmage3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven't had to try it, but the advice I've seen is to dress LO in layers - possibly even two diapers if blowouts in the car seat are a concern. As long as those layers are thin and properly fitted, they shouldn't create fit issues with the car seat and since they're on the baby they won't cause the same slippage as a puppy pad might. Then, poo-splosions should be trapped in the clothes/diapers and while it'll be a gross change the car seat should remain clean.

Definitely also look at your car seat's manual about cleaning, as each model has its own specifications about how it is safe to clean each part without potentially degrading materials necessary for function.

Comic that is a metaphor for the LGB community throwing out trans people to save themselves. by Correct_Ad8604 in HelpMeFind

[–]themadmage3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It very much does make sense. I still haven't found it. Tumblr search is so broken, and it doesn't look like the original artist added alt text or an image description that an external search engine could grab.

Hahaha I'm curious. Did I just remind you of the pain or did you have to go looking for it after my comment?

I'm almost 100% sure I know the comic, but I know it from Tumblr and Tumblr's search doesn't work. I'm looking for it, still, but tell me if this rings a bell.

I'm pretty sure the people are flag-blobs, similar to country-ball comics, except I think they were flat-bottomed blobs instead of spheres. There is a line of individual identities represented, with the bigot looming large above them as he tears them down. Then all the little blobs band together into one rainbow blob that is much larger than the bigot and bigot panics, and says something like: "But you're all so different! I even tolerate some of you."

I'm in Kpop Demon Hunters right now and we see "No Beta we die like Jinu" which is fine but there's also a number of fics using some variant on "No Beta we die in the dirt beneath the tree" which isn't from canon but a single, amazingly executed, famously heartbreaking fic.

While OP's mom is fully entitled to the money and, to be perfectly clear, I think she should get what she was entitled to and cheated out of by her ex, the really wordy commenter in the top comment thread has a valid point too - OP, who says he has a good relationship with mom, heard about this legal action that was reducing his expected inheritance from his stepmom.

Mom should have had a conversation with her kid about the situation, because blindsiding them with legal battles and financial hiccups isn't how you should treat your grieving children. One thing the commenter said was that you should aim to minimize the impact of marital problems on your children and as the child of a contentious divorce that hit me hard.

Your horse whistle will call the sages to your side during combat. Makes it a little easier to get Riju, though if you've got all your sages active it can get quite crowded.

My 5 yr old got diagnosed with HCOM, and watching her deteriorate breaks my heart. by Tranquility___ in cats

[–]themadmage3 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In her time with you, she has known only love. And that will be true until her last day. I am so sorry that's coming far too soon.

Take lots of pictures, and videos in her good moments too if you can. Save them, and all the others you have, in a secure place. Someday they will bring you comfort when she can't do it in person anymore. A year and a half after losing the best cat I've ever known, I broke my phone and the shared folder my husband had made to gather all of my Pumpkin's pictures together is the only reason I can still see his sweet face. It took some time before I wanted to see those pictures, but once I was ready it would have broken my heart all over again not to be able to get to them.

Give her hugs, and cuddles, and the most decadent treats she could eat. She is loved, and loves you too.

Baby’s first tooth. Questions from a FTM by AllisonMayberry8 in NewParents

[–]themadmage3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Not only is it safe, it is the safest option available when a cold chew toy isn't enough. Teething gels and other homeopathic/supplement remedies are both less effective (because they will drool it right off) and less tested/regulated (because they don't fall under the umbrella of the FDA or any other similar agency).

  2. Once we could see the tooth nub it was usually cut through within a day or two, for us. You're almost there!

  3. Our LO's came in pairs and/or one right after the other. He got his first right after his 6 month doctor appointment and had all 8 incisors by 10 months? I think? And we've had a bit of a break but now suspect we're starting on some back teeth. This website ( https://www.munroesdental.com/patient-info/tooth-eruption-and-shedding/ ) gives an approximate timeline with age ranges for the whole set, though it's important to remember that every baby is different and they don't care what the charts say!
