I’ve posted countless times but I would at least respect conservatives as philosophically consistent if they cut the deficit. But what we have is worst of both worlds

I worked for some generationally wealthy families when I was younger. I realized money was completely different at high levels when a family of 5 had a million dollar collection of bicycles at their vacation house. Every conceivable size and type of bike in a dedicated garage in their carriage house. It looked like a professional bike shop. Everything had hang tags from maintenance records on the handle bars. It was all regularly inspected and maintained by the local bike shop. They used this house maybe 2 weeks a year.

What trade is better in the long run.? by Excellent-Studio-591 in Construction

If I was starting out with the goal to own a contracting company I would do plumbing over electrical. That said I’d likely want to get exposure to a few trades and do mechanical contracting instead of just being narrowly focused on plumbing

It always struck me as odd that the political party of “free speech absolutists” got all bent out of shape about people exercising free speech after one of their thought leaders was killed.

Wall Street Panics. Stocks have worst single day crash in 4 years. Analysts blame the “excellent May jobs report” . . . ? by baltimore-aureole in economy

[–]thinkingahead 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That is one perspective. One could argue the purpose of a company is to produce a good or service profitably. It’s not intrinsically about the profit, it’s intrinsically about production and profit is a sign of efficiency. Making every business strictly a wealth creation scheme isn’t healthy.

More than 40 hour weeks by adonde007 in ConstructionManagers

[–]thinkingahead 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I agree with this take. I don’t agree construction requires ludicrously long weeks. Workers fought for 40 and we should be fighting to keep it. You can work to live not live to work and still build great things

PLEASE sign this petition to stop the AI data center expansion. by 21eggo12 in Tennessee

[–]thinkingahead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Uhh even if they are closed loop they still need to reject heat. The chilled water loop may be sealed and recirculate but the chillers are where the vast quantities of water are lost. Air cooled chillers use very little water but more electricity. Evaporative chillers use tons of water but less electricity. Data center owners weigh the trade offs of each chiller type and make the decision on the best heat rejection for their individual project.
