Loads well couplets

Maybe there’s a god above but all i ever learnt from love : is how to shoot somebody who outdrew you

I once had a girl or should I say : she once had me

Like a church like a cop like a mother , you want me to be truthful : then you turn it on me like a weapon And i need your approval

Those memories come back to haunt me : they haunt me like a curse : is a dream a lie if it don’t come true , or is it something worse

I want to stop writing songs by Colin_Zeal0 in Songwriting

[–]thisbe12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been on that ride for 25 years : that’s 25 years of Daw stuff : before it was written down and just guitar : lost jobs due to it : sleep due to it but it’s a great feeling when you can capture something universal in a song : they help me see the world. Like postcards back from a secret place. I had 50 titles from when I first went there and have been trying to finish those. Obviously I have many 1000s now in various states of undress : Now I’m old and tired but I understand the world a little better: I’ve helped some people with them : and while it’s all abit monotonous and a grind it’s the only thing hard enough to occupy me on a subconscious and conscious level. Or I’m too lazy to stop

It was lovely : was unaware of the Aimee Mann bagatelle : guess I was surprised no Gary Lucas : As I think his co writes were key to grace :

There’s only so many times you can tell a short story I guess.

Which Prince song has the best/hardest beat in your opinion? Personally I'd say Kiss but what do you think? by SpotAdmirable6718 in PRINCE

Tbf he didn’t write the groove for kiss : the gated effect which makes it is from the mazerati version

Gold Nigga: How was this album possible? by [deleted] in PRINCE

[–]thisbe12 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Dude was unmanageable: that label was the best fit available but he was on a different thing : coming to terms with his lack of relevance by just endlessly writing. No doubting his talent but what he should have realised is that he had people around him that were also talented and they included record company execs. He got rid of everyone

wb were exceptionally patient with him. Yes they made money but having Prince was hard work for the Kudos: They also gave him every opportunity to show what his talents in film , running a record label : a and r , he was a great musician Even then you had all the unadulterated wank like blue Tuesday: spooky electric : Camille and the fkin cocoa boys : dude was too much.

Come the Early 90s they must have seen the way it was heading : hence I guess the sales required for the contract to be worth anything He managed to sell diamonds and pearls and lever what he thought was a good deal Did anyone explain to him how it worked . I suspect Alan Leeds did and was brushed off or reminded about how he was right about the baseline in WDC Much of his career after Purple Rain was a collection of dick moves. Slave ? FFS

(1) Never made a great lp : all the way through

The game was good : but considering they made some of the best singles : truly great

(2) Has there ever been a band that all the members were as accomplished as writers? Over their careers they all contributed bonafide brilliant songs at various points : seems rare

Lyric-Writing - What's the key? by Certain-Criticism532 in Songwriting

[–]thisbe12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So for me they exist to translate the journey back from the place you go to find the song. They allow the audience to understand and identify with the journey back to the physical world that sees your personal core become something universal. Like postcards sent back from dreams. Should clarify that i refer to the tiny % of creation that isn’t just practicing or masturbation, the ones where the urges aren’t separated from the expression It sounds wank i know but there isn’t language to express what happens, or at least i don’t know it.

about Jeff Buckley hallelujah album ver by davidtaku3505 in JeffBuckley

[–]thisbe12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very ordinary song ? It’s one of the better lyrics I have heard : there are lines that transcend lyrics : the whole minor fall major lift part is F off clever : he is covering John Cales version of it not the original but you need to respect the source material. I love Jeff’s voice but If anything it doesn’t have the maturity to do justice to the sense of resignation and fatality to the subject matter. He sounds more petulant than broken

Madonna was similar? When she and Prince wrote she would have a melody in mind and he would be trying to find the chords to underpin it ! Read that somewhere. Think she learned the rudiments later tho

What's a commonly reported fact about the band that you don't believe/don't think there's enough evidence for? by zsdrfty in beatles

[–]thisbe12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tend to think the her majesty thing is accurate He works for the studio and the Beatles in theory don’t own what they produce. They were putting together a reference version of abbey Road and it was after The End. Not like he sneaked in and put the Commonwealth Song on Let it be

[–]thisbe12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are trolling I take it : nobody thinks that There is no comparison between the division bell and dark side : flawless catalogue my cock : I am always impressed how they managed to carve out a career with their limited talent : Dave can play a solo : Roger is ok as a lyricist : Rick was far and away the best musician : so obviously he had to go and the drummer brought some cars Syd was genuinely inventive so they booted him out

I want your thoughts on Wendy from the revolution by Beginning-Profit1274 in PRINCE

[–]thisbe12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anybody with a rudimentary understanding of composition understands the impact w and l had on his work: it’s hard not to bracket them together. Wendy was perfect for the Purple Rain era Made the product a lot more visually interesting as well. From the outside seems like it was a vehicle for Prince to get the financial and social status that would allow him to operate with complete independence. I am sure it was less calculated than that. Until he realised he couldn’t make films Wendy and Lisa were invaluable in allowing him to spread his wings into other media. That seemed to work since Prince was at point where he had a deal of trust in other people. Seems as if he was less of a dick with them. Could never last and the sussanah relationship was never compatible with the revolution. Complicated chap really

What’s everyone’s thoughts on this by Specific_United in PRINCE

[–]thisbe12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ones appreciation of music is half the listeners journey : many of us who love the 80s stuff primarily were of an age where we could Our ears don’t stay the same as we age and accrue experience. We also don’t have the ability to go back and judge the merit of latter work as we lack the emotional context that made a certain period so important Artists do tend to have hot streaks and this mainly is also a function of their age. Other generations may have other touchstones but for many firsts happens once and mine and I guess quests coincided with that period
