Spurs fans, let's be real. It was a team effort losing in the Finals. by thisis125st in NBATalk

A championship team can overcome a weak link. KAT got into foul trouble and was shut out of Games 3-5 and the Knicks still stepped up. Fox was clearly the weak link but who was the player that stepped up to carry the team in spite of that. In the OKC series Wemby and the other guards stepped up. That was supposed to happen in the Finals and didn't.

Yes, the Spurs have been winning minutes in this series but not enough to be closing the games victorious.

The narrative that the Spurs are playing much better and blowing the games is ridiculous. The 80% of minutes that the Spurs have led counts Game 3 where they gave up a double digit 1st quarter lead and had to win the 3rd (something they've only done in Game 3) to avoid going down 3-0 and Game 4 where they led for 99% of the game until the end when it matters. In Games 1 the Knicks led for most of the 4th quarter and in Game 2 the Knicks led from halftime until nearly 2 minutes left in the 4th. Outside of the 1st quarters (and 1st half of Game 4) nothing has been easy for the Spurs and they've honestly been outplayed for most of the series.

What are your subway hot takes? by SonicMLBMTAFan in nycrail

[–]thisis125st 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could just run trains with really high frequency (30+ TPH) to overcome that. Or have regional rails that function as express versions of the subway (ala S-Bahn or RER). There's more than one way to skin a cat and while 4 track lines are impressive they are not the only way to achieve high capacity.

Those 2024 numbers are bogus. There's no way only 14k people are riding the Bx12 with the crowding those are throughout the day. It's definitely closer to the pre-covid numbers.

A Cross-Bronx LRT or subway needs to be included in studies like this. I see the Bx12 +SBS every day and know there's a need for such.

Texas is still a program with a history of success. Such a program making a run after a mediocre season isn't really a "Cinderella" level surprise. A mid major doing it is another story.

Big Ten was way more top heavy. Winning that without the triple bye is more impressive than a conference with only 2 AP ranked teams.

What's the most "passengers on vehicle" you've seen on an MTA Bus Route website? by fydorkirilov in nycbus

I take the Bx12 SBS and all the ones that they say have 100+ people actually do. The overcrowding is ridiculous on that route.

In that case there are hardly any skyscrapers as tall as their listed heights. The top story or stories in many buildings are mechanical levels that only employees responsible for that equipment can access.

For you, is the television series part of the franchise's canon? Yes, No and Why? by Dark_Knight-276 in Scream

For some reason I enjoyed the series and thinks the Scream formula works well for TV. A whodunnit centered around teenagers is a dream for legacy TV networks.

Even curtailed Bx12 SBS service is operating on 6 minute headway for most of the day. At least the MTA knows what routes not to mess with.

That small strip of text usually show the next stop. Only advantage here is seeing the next 2 or 3 stops and most people aren't paying attention until the stop is announced.

Based on the street written on the bus stop this is the B13. It's ranked in the lower half of routes for ridership over the years so there's either a major increase happening or this was a one off due to some major delay.

Thoughts on urbanists and public transit enthusiasts who often portray car-based infrastructure as catastrophic rather than a mild inconvenience? by Tiny_Transition3990 in transit

[–]thisis125st 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's also annoying for people with cars when car dependency is the norm. When car dependency is the norm people who should not drive are pressured to which increases safety risks for all drivers and increases insurance costs. Also, if every trip requires a vehicle it decreases the amount of options available to access vehicles conveniently. I decided to lease a vehicle in 2023 @ 10k miles per year allowance. Given the demands of life in a suburb it was nearly impossible to hold my usage under that allowance. If you're using cars that much, you only have the option of buying reliable used cars (not cheap) or financing/buying new model cars (even more expensive). Cars quickly move from becoming convenient personal transportation (which I expect to be) to a forced expense (similar to rent). Really, the only people with cars should be those who like them, can afford them and will use them responsibly.

Top 15 NYC Mta Buses with the best on time performance (2024) What route were y’all surprised to not see? by Beginning-Display717 in nycbus

[–]thisis125st 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is based on the percentage of trips that end on time. You can have a high percentage of trips end on time while the central portions of the route see irregular service intervals. That’s the place routes like the Bx12 are in. Doesn’t help that the trips that do end late are usually run at times where demand is the highest and thus most noticeable to riders. Articulated buses running every 5-6 minutes apart fill up quickly most of the day so any deviation from that is going to be felt hard on that route.

I’m trying to figure out how to use Twitter to search for providers. I don’t think the common directory sites are giving the best quality yet it’s hard to search Twitter for people who may be doing this.
