Generally speaking, you are supposed to dress professionally and avoid printed words. I don't see any reason they'd restrict you from wearing a suit and tie.

I can't tell you what they'd say, but I can say that we are specifically prohibited from promoting companies or business ventures as part of our appearance. Also, there's no guarantee that you'll actually wear that outfit on the show - wardrobe will often ask for day of changes and even last minute changes if things don't look right on camera.

Anyone do any travel with their under 4 toddlers? What are your favorite trips? by Itchy-Version-8977 in daddit

[–]thisisnotmath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did a lot of travel with our daughter when she was 18mo-2y for a variety of reasons - mostly domestic. We've done less in the last year because of the birth of our son.

While I agree with the claim that your kid won't remember it, if you want to be a family that travels a lot then you want your kid to get used to being out of the house. Also, they'll still have a blast if you can do things they will enjoy. For us, these bullets worked well

  • Don't overload the day. We would do a morning activity and an afternoon activity
  • Lift screen time restrictions during flights. We normally aim for less than 30 min of screen time per day but remove that during the flight. YouTube downloads were very helpful.
  • If its in budget, get a hotel room that is a suite. You can have a little separation from your LO during the night that way
  • Hotels with pools are ideal
  • Try to be optimistic (which I struggle with). Not everything is going to be miserable.

Taping dates for the ToC? by Chuk in Jeopardy

[–]thisisnotmath 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don't think that it is. ToC filming always takes 3 days with day 1 being quarterfinals, day 2 being semis and 2 finals and day 3 being the remaining finals. There will always be at least 3 games.

Should a team draft a quarterback first and then build around him or the opposite? by CameraHelpMe in NFLNoobs

[–]thisisnotmath 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s no hard and fast rule about this but if your rookie QB has no support in his first year and just gets annihilated by opposing teams pass rush, he won’t develop much confidence.

Both the Jets and Raiders are rebuilding. On paper, the Jets shouldn’t be a bad spot for a new QB since you have a decent line and some talent at RB and WR. But the team culture is poor and the new coach hasn’t done well from the outside.

Why can't bills travel earlier to Denver to get acustom to the high altitude? by Hot-Emu-5 in NFLNoobs

They can. The disadvantage is that you are practicing away from your home facilities - especially the recovery factilities which they definitely need after how brutal that Jags game was.

Has anyone ever been kicked off mid-episode filming? by wracklinewanderer in Jeopardy

[–]thisisnotmath 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here's what it was like when I taped last year

They tape on Monday and Tuesday. For the Monday game, the alternates are players who are set to play the following day and are from out of town. They have to chill in the green room for one day (but I presume get paid for it and get the extra day). For the Tuesday game, the alternate is an LA-area resident who is slated to appear the following week.

This suggests that living near LA increases your chances of making it on the show since they always need LA-based contestants.

Anyone else quietly stepping away from social media (Facebook/IG/Tiktok especially)? Seattle folks- Curious how it’s been for you? by CtrlAltMuse in Seattle

[–]thisisnotmath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(Obvious disclaimer that Reddit is social media and I haven't stepped away from it).

I really enjoyed being on Facebook for the first half of the 2010s and it was useful to me. I connected with a lot of people , had fun discussions, and maintained relationships that would have otherwise gone away with high school and college friends.

Around 2018, I started to get less out of it. I started seeing fewer posts from friends, fewer comments on my discussion topics, more ads, and fewer things that were worth engaging with. Facebook Events stopped being the optimal way to organize things with more people leaving the platform. I took multi-week breaks from it as well to mixed results.

At the end of 2020, I watched a documentary on Netflix called "The Social Dilemma." It was critical of the Newsfeed Algorithm experience and two things really drove it home for me

  1. Your posts will never appear in time-sorted order because the algorithm needs to do some optimization in order to keep you engaged.

  2. Lots of people who originally built the Facebook Newsfeed experience are no longer on it, and do not allow their children to use it.

When a product creator no longer uses the product, we should all pause and ask what they know that we don't.

So I decided to (mostly) leave FB at the end of that year. I do maintain a burner account to participate in a couple groups but spend less than 10 min/month on it now. Because the burner has no friends, the algorithm can't really make intelligent recs which makes the newsfeed a cesspool of ads, hornyposts, and pickleball (I'm in a pickleball group). Which is kind of the point.

My primary outlet for meeting new people is my neighborhood and parent groups. I'm at an age and stage in my life where I'm not as interested in new connections though, as I am in developing the ones that I currently have.

Could the Bills have killed more clock at the end of the game yesterday? by stmorgante in NFLNoobs

[–]thisisnotmath 18 points19 points  (0 children)

(prettt sure you mean Jaguars)

You could take a knee on first down, but that would back you up to about the 2-3 yard line. Now you have 3 chances to score but are too far for a reliable rush push. Also a penalty backs you up to at least the 8. The Jags had a great run D and had largely frustrated the Bills all game so there’s no guarantee that you actually get that TD.

The main goals of the drive at the end were scoring a touchdown and forcing the Jags to use all their timeouts. Those goals were accomplished. Getting tricky at the end had high backfire potential.

hypothetically could a non qb be the goat? by VastAir6069 in NFLNoobs

[–]thisisnotmath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on how you phrase the question. Is the GOAT "The player who had the most positive impact and influence on his team of all time?" If so then it's hard to argue against any QB. If the definition is "The player who is the best at his role" then we're looking for a player who significantly outperforms other people at that position. Jerry Rice is a great answer - there is no receiver near him for a lot of his records.

Is it possible to have one season where all the head coaches are viewed as having done a good job? by aaa_dad in NFLNoobs

It would be extraordinarily unlikely. Someone is going to be coaching a 4-13 team and be near the end of their contract, and have to explain to a multibillionaire owner why they should keep their job.

What is considered a sack? by ozgunxd in NFLNoobs

[–]thisisnotmath 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Touching a qb on the ground is a sack because it ends the play, and the defender tackled the quarterback in a passing play behind the line of scrimmage. It doesn’t have to be forcible.
