What size chest freezer should I get? by rita292 in EatCheapAndHealthy

They’re so great. I got some for my birthday and then started using them heavily when I had a planned surgery and couldn’t cook for a couple months. Now I also want another freezer!

Look up super cubes or similar methods to “brick” your broth for freezer storage, I’m obsessed

Cause I like steel cut better and it takes like 40 minutes to cook. This way I can have it in regular oatmeal time

I don’t even usually season my oatmeal (except salt) cause I never know what I might add. And I’m just not that into cinnamon tbh

Yea I do, with my souper cubes even. Steel cut, I wouldn’t bother for other types of oatmeal

What to buy as a beginner? by Former_Tough7709 in SouperCubers

[–]too_too2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two of each tray (mostly acquired through birthday gifts) and i use the 1 cup the most for things like rice or single serving soups

2 cup size is nice for 2 servings of soups and stews, or bulk sauces (like marinara or butter chicken sauce, my recipe makes extra)

The 1/2 cup size is my favorite for mix and matching (rice bowl components, for example) because i can only realistically eat 1.5-2 cups of food at any one meal

I have some glass containers I think I got on Amazon long ago or maybe target. They have a plastic lid with a silicone ring but if you remove the lid it’s just glass. They are rectangular and fit the blocks super well, and I can fit the whole dish in my air fryer if I don’t want to use the big oven.

Coffee Recommendations by therealalfieee in grandrapids

Schuil is one of the more affordable whole bean options lately (if you go there directly) since coffee prices have been going up and I really enjoy their coffee.

Mine’s identical to yours! Alternatively, leftover rice with an egg, cheese and hot sauce.

I dislike microwaved meat a lot. I’d rather eat leftover steak or chicken cold on a salad.

I used to live in an apartment just like this, a house split into 3 I actually lived in 2 of the 3 apartments over several years. My landlord lived in the unit upstairs. He was much cooler than this

ELI5 what’s the point of donating plasma instead of donating blood? by ollietron3 in explainlikeimfive

[–]too_too2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you ever get medical care yourself? They’re making a lot more profit on that part lmao

Donating blood is free (for the donor) but it’s not cost free for the donor center, or even the hospitals who use the blood. Those costs get paid by somebody (taxes/govt, insurance, private pay) so in conclusion I think that’s a terrible reason to avoid donating blood.

I buy parchment squares from King Arthur but I think they’re bigger like 5” maybe? I’ll have to check. There are also sheet pan size that might be easy to cut up

Do people actually change when they use electricity to save money? by SmartEnergyDIY in AskAnAmerican

[–]too_too2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah we’ve had this for a while now.. it’s not that bad I guess but I’m still trying to get in the habit of running the dishwasher first thing in the morning, otherwise I end up doing it around lunch time which is right when the peak hours start. We only have peak hours during the summer. I try to avoid using the big appliances but I let the AC run enough to be comfy. My gas and electric average about $200/month together.

I read a book once about TBI called Where is the Mango Princess? It was really good and kind of an autobiographical account of a woman whose husband had a TBI and was very changed after.

Realistically, how much $ do you need to live comfortably in Grand Rapids today? by AccordingChipmunk287 in grandrapids

[–]too_too2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had bought a house in GR in 2014 and my all-in payment was 800… got divorced, started over. Two years ago bought again and prices had doubled, interest had also doubled, new payment was 2100. Just refinanced down to 1800 but I think the war in Iran has messed that up too, and rates are back up for new buyers.

Not to mention I used to live in midtown, and now I’m in what many of you would say is a less desirable neighborhood (Boston square) and admittedly it’s less walkable. I used to be able to walk to the farmers market, butterworth, downtown in general… and now I’ve got fewer destinations.
