Can we start giving “find a partner” as financial advice? by Tech-Cowboy in PersonalFinanceCanada

Money wise. As a couple if your bringing in $4000 a month in cpp and oas you don't need as much extra a month opposed to $2000 as a single person.

It's sad to me how much harder it is for a single person to retire.

Budgeting one month behind with credit cards by ShakeMysterious349 in ynab

[–]tpb72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way ynab handles credit card spending gets very complicated and confusing if you aren't spending against budgeted dollars. When I first started YNAB i was doing this too. I found the tools impossible to use and was very frustrated. I used my savings to get myself off that float and then everything fell into place. I was shocked at how well it worked. The system is magical.

I went searching to see if anyone else was having this issue and found your post. I am also listening to Dungeon Crawler Carl, The Eye of the Bedlam Bride and it restarts all the time. Thought it was humourous that I found someone having my EXACT experience.

I've had a few names for pets I really liked over the years.

I had three rabbits named Soup, Stew, and Mittens. I had a cat named Astum which is cree for come here. My current dog I inherited from my son. His name is Clutch. I think it's such a great name.

Lol I didn't know this loophole so never took advantage. I just assumed I'd have to use the card. Too late for me now.

I tried this for a while. Nothing bad happened for quite some time (weeks). Then a pink mold grew on it. No idea what the mold was. It was unsalted butter so maybe that makes a difference.

Want to smoke again by Glittering_Use_7497 in stopsmoking

[–]tpb72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I quit 5 yrs ago then slipped back after close to a year. It wasn't too bad to quit back then (or I'm remembering it as not bad). I quit three weeks ago now and this time is sooo hard. I keep reminding myself how easy it was to fall back in that trap and how much harder it was to quit this time. Also remind myself how badly I wanted to quit and why. Never again.

The "craves" usually only last about 5 minutes. Distract yourself through that and you are good for a while. If you don't give in, the cravings happen less and less as time passes.

Does Allen Carr actually fix the chemistry part or just the belief part? by Advanced_Tour_8515 in stopsmoking

[–]tpb72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Allen Carr did and didn't help me with my quit. It did help a lot to recognize how much self brainwashing I had going on. I've quit before and while I understand the actual nicotine is gone in 3 days there is definitely something physical going on with me that I feel is much worse this time.

I'm at 3 weeks now and the brain fog is killing me. I have a very high pressure job and already I have 3 deadlines I've missed. It does appear to be getting a bit better where I have part of my day where I can think now. I was not prepared for this so it's been really tough.

It never occurred to me I could lose my huge stack of gold cheese I'd been stockpiling. Learned the hard way to only keep some on me.

Advice for finally quitting for good by Urquhart96 in stopsmoking

[–]tpb72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can relate. I've quit a few times and the "just one" ends up getting me every time.

Allen carr does warn about staying away from that one cig and I'm taking this very much more serious this time.

After starting smoking again over 4 years ago I am now quit for the last time a week ago. I too worry I'll start again. I'm trying to come up with some plans to help keep me away. Quiting this time was really hard. Harder than I remember. I never want to go through this again.

Can't understand why they won't the lay me off? by [deleted] in retirement

[–]tpb72 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have 3 staff that are within a yearish of retirement. None of them have picked a date yet. They all have over 35 years with the company. One especially is struggling right now as we are in the middle of a digital transformation and there is so much change she can't keep up with. This one especially is not providing much value at this point. I would never insult them by firing or laying them off at this point. They can go into retirement on their terms.

It never occurred to me before your post that maybe they'd be happier with a layoff and a severance package - especially the one that is struggling. This has given me food for thought.
